I just have to say, you are my dream come true. When I bought my 19 Rav I thought Toyota will be doing the over the air update for self driving, but that didn’t happen until I found your video mid September 2022. I went on and got my comma 3 crosscountry and as an Uber driver my job has been so much easier. We need people like you who don’t keep to themselves. "Sharing is caring " So thank you so much 😊

Both Honda and Toyota systems work the same way... Openpilot is much superior.
@pinakmiku4999
@pinakmiku4999 2 года назад
Honda system is different I believe. Honda’s lane centering(lane trace assist) work independently of Adaptive cruise control unlike others like Toyota, Subaru, Nissan etc. This has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example lane centering or assist turns off with a slight brake and you can’t many times depend on adaptive cruise control since it brakes hard many times especially if it detects front vehicles late in curvy roads and often speeds up to overcome small hills which gives a jerky feeling. Since Honda system is independent so you don’t have to worry about switching on if turned off. A disadvantage is it doesn’t has full speed lane centering as a result and it only works over 40mph unlike Toyota, Subaru, Nissan which works over full speed range if cruise control enabled. Don’t know why Honda is different despite all are Japanese automakers and using mostly same tech

That was a really nice comparison of the two systems. However, at 11:56 , open pilot helps the car to come to a complete stop, after that, do you have to accelerate manually to engage autopilot again just like the factory system or does the car start moving as soon as the car in front moves?

Nice video! I just got a 2019 Corolla LE sedan and will definitely be getting into openpilot this summer when I'm able to afford it. Do you know if openpilot is less confident on a TSS-P/1.0 car than with 2.0??
@LoganLeGrand
@LoganLeGrand 4 года назад
Deitrick O'Rullian there are some differences but OpenPilot operates very similarly between them. If anything the improvement is a lot greater since those don’t even have an active lane keeping assist like the TSS2 cars.
@tylerlanders5261

I was definitely wondering the same thing - I've also got a '19 LE sedan with the 1.0 system. I noticed on the website they say it cannot accelerate below 20 mph, but I'm assuming it would still come to a stop? Then you would have to accelerate back up to 20 before it re-engages. Another note I saw on the Github for 17-19 Corollas is that the Automatic Emergency Braking is disabled.

@jasonrush9259
@jasonrush9259 4 года назад
AEB is only disabled if the DSU is unplugged on a TSSP Corolla. One would only unplug the DSU if they added Comma Pedal to allow OP to control speed directly. The follow distance that OP sets is so far back from the next car, I prefer to let the Toyota handle speed with the DSU plugged in as it retains the ability to adjust follow distance and keeps AEB active. OP only steers for me. Been using it like this for about 18 months. Its a great system.

According to Comma.ai if you connect an OpenPilot to your car some of the stock features don't work properly and you have to use OpenPilot. Can you retain your car factory safety features with openpilot installed? Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKAS), and Automated Lane Centering (ALC) are replaced by openpilot lateral control and they only function when openpilot is engaged Can you disconnect the harness and see how TSS2.0 works as factory installed?

Honda Sensing in the 2018 Fit & Accord were both very sweet. The Fit was best for Lane Keep Assist (actually, the ONLY true centering vehicle when it came to LKA), but the Accord was best for stop & go and everything else. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is the only competition to the Lane Centering tech in the Fit. But now that I know about OpenPilot.... opens up a whole 'nother world of cars.

Its great that we have this technology already. I know that when motor vehicles become fully autonomous self driving, people are going to trust it, laws are going to be changed and there will be no more accidents, no more speeding tickets, no more stop sign/red light running tickets, no more DUIs, no more distracted driving, no more texting while driving tickets, no more idiots swerving or drifting in & out of traffic or lanes and hopefully no more road kills either. I know that with self driving cars, everyone will have an easy way to get around, including the elderly and disabled who ever has difficulty getting around. What's the point of needing a drivers license when you can get a self driving car lol?
@joa8593
@joa8593 3 года назад
The factory system intentionally doesn't tell you it's tracing, you're supposed to steer at all times even when it's capable of centering you on its own. The lack of wheel nag is actually the main reason I don't trust open pilot. Eyes on road isn't enough driver monitoring for a system with just one camera.
@LoganLeGrand
@LoganLeGrand 3 года назад
Yeah, but it will also switch between tracing and follow up cruising without telling you, then try and follow the lead car out of the lane with no warning. I think my biggest complaint with the stock system is never knowing what it’s doing and constantly having to look at the dash to know if it’s working or not.
@joa8593
@joa8593 3 года назад
@@LoganLeGrand How strong is the torque? I have the first generation of TSS without tracing, but occasionally it confuses cracks or construction with lane lines and tries to drive out of the lane. The torque just feels like I hit a bump under my hands, if it didn't beep I don't think I would even know steering assist was working. Toyota's new hands-free system really shows how concerned their researchers are with driver engagement over comfort. It will disengage every few minutes even when there's no problem to force you to be ready to take over, which while annoying is IMO smart engineering.

Is OP any smoother than the stock Toyota cruise control at maintaining highway speeds? The stop-and-go braking for OP looks silky! Main thing that bugs me with seemingly all cruise controls (and still with TSS 2) is they have no give / do everything in their power to stay exactly at your set speed. So if you're set at 70 and going up a hill, it'll slam on the gas once you slow to 69, rather than letting it float down a few MPH. Same if you're going down hill, it'll gear shift or brake if your mass brings you above 71. I get why it does it, but I find it very detrimental to MPG.
@LoganLeGrand
@LoganLeGrand 4 года назад
Braking is way better but accel varies a lot between vehicles but is faster than stock at least. The best thing is that OpenPilot is constantly getting updates and has a ton of area for improving cruise control with a machine learning based approach!
