Wildlife tours are very popular in the Tetons because of the abundance of animals. However, some individuals, families, and groups wonder if it is possible to do a self-guided tour. Self-guided tours can be just as productive as a commercial tour, cost much less and can proceed at a slower pace and according to the schedule you set, not the schedule of the commercial tour company.

That photo of the Grizzly in the snow is spectacular. When I was at Yellowstone, I was shocked by the number of people messing with the Bison. Shortly after I returned home, a man was killed there by a Bison.

Moose, I am 3 weeks out from my trip to GTNP and just watched this again taking notes on your sample itinerary. I am going to start reading your book again. All of the information you have provided has reinforced my knowledge of the area and will help make my photographic journey there a success. Again, thanks for this video and your book.

Excellent presentation and great information! I recently purchased your book and the info you provided is essential for anyone planning a trip there. A huge time saver and very detailed. Of course your photos are breathtaking! Wow! It'll be close to fall when I arrive this year...maybe we will get a break from the forest fires...bit I aint holding my breath for that. Winter has its own beauty so thats a possibility too. Obviously traveling more....organically 🙄.

Thanks for some great info! We’re planning our 2nd trip to GTNP in September, so I really appreciate you discussing the differences between months. Suggestion: while I love your wildlife photography, it would be incredibly helpful if you were to insert map images from time to time, showing the various areas that you are describing.

We aren’t huge fans of tours, for obvious reasons, and the few times we’ve taken one, it’s been disappointing. Cannot wait to see this park though. Hoping in the next year or so to hit this and Yellowstone (finally).

This video has come at the most opportune time. I have your book and am studying it. I plan to be in the Tetons the last two weeks of May. Great video. Unfortunately, I can't get my hands on a Nikon 600mm f/4 as they are on backorder. I just got the Nikon 500mm pf f/5.6. Hope that's enough reach.

@@MooseHenderson1 I plan on returning in September for the last two weeks for the rut(s) and hopefully some fall colors. Last two times there in the fall, I was cursed by the smoke from west coast fires. I ended up just leaving both times.

I have been to Yellowstone 4 or 5 times now. During the first trip I purchased a book about where to find the animals. It really was not much help. Slowly trip after trip we have learned where to look for specific animals. It's tough to know where to look when you only have a few days in the park. We spent one day in the Teton area and 10 days in YS during the last trip. I tried to research where to go in Teton and spent a little time in the Pilgrim creek area. During that time someone got into trouble for baiting a bear and they had certain areas shut down. The information Moose has shared is incredibly important. I spend a lot of time talking to people in the parks to see where they are seeing animals. Driving and looking for traffic jams. Moose takes the guessing out of it. I have saved the link to this video so I can work on a map. Filling in the potential viewing areas of specific animals. Moose, do you have any information about the names people use for the pull off areas in YS? I think the wolf watchers call the different pull off areas different names. We were supposed to move to the Jackson area before the coro fear hit. It seemed to drive up housing demand and prices even more. So it became impossible to find a home in the surrounding areas. We'd see people grabbing up houses that were put back on the market as rentals before completely off line as being for sale at higher rental prices than if we could have bought the homes. We would have been living at a lower standard than now because the wages didn't compensate enough for the crazy housing costs. The people taking care of the sick and elderly in the hospital and nursing home shouldn't have to drive over an hour and fifteen minutes to work or take a bus that takes longer. Anyway, thanks for the info.

I'm new to your channel, Moose............brand new, just subscribed. I've been coming from South Texas to Jackson Hole since 1967. With real estate prices like they now are, your tiny homes sound like as good idea. Do you ever take Prosumer photographers on a 1 on 1 basis?

I did workshops and tours for a year but decided it was not for me. All my clients seemed delighted and happy but I did not like the experience. I do better alone so I have decided to communicate through my books, no in person on tours and workshops. I am sure you know, I have a book about the Tetons "50 Wildlife Hotspots of Grand Teton", many have stated it is the best for those that wish to do the park on their own.
