What beautiful plants !!! They look so healthy! I am gland you did the how to make the moss pole video. You could show how to make a moss plaque for staghorn ferns. And how to make coconut shell pots. Your title should say "How to make self watering moss pole". (so people know you have instructions)
Hey Ellis nice video! Loving yout luscious hair too! Do you just water the full moss pole (sydneyplantguy style) fromthe top or do you just spray the plant at the nodes?
Sometimes I take them into the shower and sometimes I just water from the top. Have kinda figured out how much water to give to soak the hole pole. I’ll definitely do an update soon.
Excellent video - Won't the wicks decompose over time? I read somewhere that cotton wicks will generally decompose after 5 months - given this is wet all the time won't it be quicker?
Hello Elis! Thank you for this video, I'm definitely going to do a few. I wanted to ask you about the one you have hanged on your wall, are those cuttings? because I did not see a pot. Gracias! From El Paso, TX
my moss poles are getting extremely dry and I don’t generally have too much issue with humidity :( it seems if I saturate the pole it’s dry the next day. Do you have any advice for this? I’m worried I’m doing something wrong…I really want to benefit from moss poles!
That's really interesting, what soil is the plant and moss pole in? Wondering if the soil is draining the moisture from the moss. Or if the moss in your pole is very densely packed, it actually holds on to less moisture. Moss poles technically don't need to be wet, especially at all times. I'm about to do a update video and more information on moss poles soon and I'll definitely address this!
Did the same, even with a special self watering wick for plants and it doesnt work at wall. The water stays inside the pipe, i wrapped the wick neatly around the pipe, just as you did and it does exactly nothing for me. The moss dries out and i end up spraying it with water from the outside to keep it moist. Saw some people using 3 vertical lined up wicks, perhaps for exactly that reason because the wick you wrap around just doesnt transport the water well enough.
Hey! Surprised to see somebody leaving the bottom part of the mesh pole empty, that's how i do it as well. Don't want the moss messing up with the moisture of my substrate. What I found initially was it is a pain "pushing" the substrate in the empty area at the bottom. Spent a lot of time using a small stick pushing the substrate through the mesh. Eventually what i did is after I made my pole with the moss, i turn it upside down (temporarily covering the top part with plastic), then put the substrate on to the empty part of pole mesh. Then i'll put the pot on top (also upside down) then quickly flip the pole with the pot. Hope this makes sense :) By the way, how's the self-watering pole doing? I have a dozen moss poles based on sydneyplantguy/craigmilran tutorial but haven't tried using a pvc/rope inside. Is it really effective? Thanks!
My mix is so chunky that it stays fairly easily in the mesh when I stuff it in. I like I your method that’s a great idea. I tossed the self watering pole. Way more hassle that the then wire mesh poles. I’ve figured out almost the exact amount of water I need in the can and water the poles from the top to get it perfectly moist. I love these poles so much. All my plants I’ve taken to them so quickly.
@@ElisandTheAroids Hey, thanks for the feedback about the self watering pole. I already have doubts that the rope wicking water is enough to keep the moss moist. Glad i'm don't need to buy pvc and ropes anymore :)
Love it! I will try to build one for my raphidophora tetrasperma. It is already grown 1 mt, but have so many long aerial roots that maybe will work :-)
I made this self watering pole. The water went stagnant and smelt disgusting! The wick stayed dry on the moss side of the plastic pole and went mouldy on the inside of the plastic tube. The moss remained dry. Didn’t work.
