This has become my new favorite channel..I'm addicted to the content without music - sometimes birds chirping in the background of sweet two stroke sounds. I can't believe there are still good young men such as yourself out there that doesn't feel the need to swear. Keep up the videos and remember that it's not work when your doing something you enjoy!!

Yes, the Honda were the best bikes through the 80's but unfortunately the magnesium were to phrone to corrosion so not most of them are still running. Infact they are very rare today in vintage racing. Partly because the corrosion problem but also the odd bearing dimensions that you cannot find today. I think all other japanese bikes have survived better than Honda and KTM.

The metal flakes are probably from the aluminum clutch plates. They made the plates out of aluminum so as they wear out they will not damage anything else. The older style plates were made of steel much more durable but harder on the clutch baskets and pressure plate

Don't run Glycol based fluid in them. I started running 60/40 Nissan Synthetic L25500P Blue Long Life in my stuff and haven't had a single issue with corrosion. I always replace the shaft and bearings when the water pump seal goes out. The shaft usually gets grooves worn in it. Make sure to put the shaft in the bearings and see if the bearings have any slop in them. Worn bearings will quickly cause the new seal to wear out. Never use Glycol based coolant in a bike. It creates corrosion especially in the cast aluminum parts such as the pump housing.

Hey Joe on the water pump repair which I know you are familiar with the J-B Weld repair there is a product used on gas tanks at O'Reilly's called Red Kote. I'm willing to bet if you did a really good clean up on all that stuff you would be able to use the red coat to seal anything as it is not harmed by any fuel I'm sure that it would not be harmed by antifreeze or oil. Maybe worth a try and hey you'll have a lot left over to seal any gas tanks that's for sure. I use that product in my Suzuki tank over 2 years ago without any weird effects or peeling or anything works really good. Anyway Joe take care of yourself buddy and good luck as always

Some times you may see a slight metallic sheen in the oil. Not a major problem. Hondas of this period used aluminum clutch plates and they shed tiny flakes through normal wear. I have a 1984 CR125R waiting on the time for a rebuild. In 84 the 500's were real beasts, the 250's were rockets and the stock 125's were anemic at best. I also had a 500, bored .060 over and pushing 180 lbs compression, it was like riding a 60 HP hand grenade. You wanted it pointed the direction you wanted to go when you pulled the pin!!!

You should just rebuild the rear shock yourself. The seal head is 40 bucks the tool to help press the seal head down is 50 bucks and you can use for others so it pays for itself, also buy fork seal 20 bucks. the forks on it have no fluid when you showed the rear shock bouncing the front was doing the same. Use fork oil in the rear shock and the front forks, save money and its perfectly fine. I doubt you can find a good rear shock cheaper than rebuilding both of them and it makes good content. Good job! By the way buy the race tech tool it's got a better perch to push down.
