I think in Germany and probably elsewhere too it is that way that once you bid you have to pay and you can take them to court for the sum and the lawyer fees. I belive a very similar case has even happened

Best way would be that you'd have to put down the money first. The same way you'd pay, you'd have to put the money you want to bid with onto your account on ebay, it would technically not be hard to programme something like this, and then you can bid with that money and when the bidding is over, the money gets automatically sent from your account to the seller. I mean when you are bidding already, so you have the money, and you can pay, so you can transfer it to an account too! If you can't, you don't have the money and wouldn't be able to pay anyway.

Doesn't Ebay still provide "Second Chance Offers" where if the top bidder bails, the second highest bidder is given the opportunity to have the item for their bid? Was Davie actually serious that the only legit bidder below $91K was $17K or something? So who was doing all those final bids during the final hours at 70K+ ?? This makes no sense. They can't all be scammers, can they? Bidding over each other up until the last seconds? We watched the bids move in real time. Those are people sitting at their computers making bids. I don't understand. There were bids in the last minutes well over $75K. Multiple. Many.

It's far from the only mainstream and "respectable" site that is extremely dubious and predatory. The best example is obviously Facebook (or every site under Meta's umbrella for that matter).
