August 4 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) questions Christopher Wray, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, on the 2018 supplemental background investigation of now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
There are also other reasons I am sure unless he was the one unicorn of the trump admin and wasn't corrupt, but please forgive if I do not beleive it.....
I love watching a senator actually do his/her job. Senator Whitehouse is direct and to the point. No waffling, no alternative conspiracy tirade, and no digression. Just the facts!
Sen. Whitehouse is possibly the most astute and learned person in the Senate, if not the entirety of Congress. He fully predicted the ruse that the GOP, and trump, would use to get their cases before SCOTUS if they were dissatisfied with rulings from lower courts, which he laid out during Kavanaugh hearings. He is deserving of our highest reverence for his commitment to integrity, truth and justice.
We the People need our security investigated and cleaned out - Secret Service, FBI, CIA, ICE, The Defense Department, The State Department, the Pentagon, Homeland Security - the guard at the WH gate! Everyone! They are suppose to be working for us - not any political party, not any other country, not one individual or group of any sort - but Aserving and protecting ALL of We the People!
I heard a rumor, that most of all the people in every one of the departments that you mentioned above, might have sworn an Oath to the constitution of the United States of America. It is amazing that the top echelon of every defense , security, and justice department seems compromised… I’d bet that there are close to a million employees of the above departments, that say quite often, why are our bosses compromised ??? Is the a list of names ,of the authors that wrote the NIST REPORT??? that might be a good question to ask , also…
It's not just the DOJ and it's not just administrators. Clinton lied, Reagan couldn't remember and Cheney laughed at his interrogators. Been happening for a long time.
Biden doesn't have the guts or the will to get rid of all these unqualified fascist stooges who have hurt so many people. He wouldn't want to upset his 'dear friends' in the fascist party.
Are you talking about that RACIST white man? He is a member of a country club that discriminates against people of color. But of course you hate brown people too
Wow, a Congressman showing capable, clear and assertive questioning, without sweating, without a temper tantrum, without verbal hostile threats, without interrupting, basically without being like a tepublicans. Refreshing.
Four years, 4 YEARS of requesting information The stench of corruption continues. These committees have got to get more power somehow, to lay down the law, if there is non compliance after as certain length of time. The FBI dodges, the Secret Service dodges, members of the Republican party dodges. If a boss asks for a year end report, it doesn't mean that report gets handed over 4 years later. Ridiculous. Thank you Senator, even 30 days sounds pretty lenient.
Exactly, I'd have said 1 week and nit even asked if it was reasonable as they've delayed for 4 years - TIMES UP!!! Why is Wray still the head of the FBI? And why is Chris Miller still the head of the DOD? And why is Tony Ornato still the head of the Secret Service? All drumpf loyalists should've been gone on day one last year. This is insane!!!
What if the report totally exonerates Justice Kavanaugh? Will you make up a committee like the Jan6 fiasco? Maybe that's why you haven't heard. They may afraid of the blow back from the Dems as to reality based information.
Said it before this Senator is an ACE. And he should be run for President. He's the only Semator that really knows his stuff, his dosent mix words and is very up front without lies and BS. Well done ....
His lack of ACTIONS speak louder than his fine words exposing those criminals..but it is action the Democrats need to do. Oh yea dems get some BALLS and DO IT yesterday.
The same Senator Whitehouse who along with his wife sat on the board of his private club that refused black people from joining the club. Integrity? Please.
Senator Whitehouse is a white supremist, him and his wife belong to an all white club in Rhode Island, when asked about it, he said it was a long tradition, yep most Democrats belong to a supremist group, Black Panthers, La Raza, mecHA, Klu Klux Klan, Nation of Islam, and many others.
Are you talking about the same Senator who, for 4 years told Americans that Trump stole the 2016 election by colluding with Russians and 6 years later zero, zilch evidence exists? The same senator that voted to keep black people out if his wife's country club? 💁🏿♂️
Its insane that a federal investigation can be influenced by the executive branch. How is that even legal? The federal government should be completely separate from all branches of government.
@@lindarichards125 there should be no way the president should be able to tamper with an investigation regarding one of the presidents appointees. Someone explain to me how that is not conflict of interest or straight up corruption. No one cant because it makes no sense. And the scariest part of it all, is no one even flinched at the time, everyone just let it slide. Not because of this corruption, half the American population lost a basic bodily right. And it wont stop there, the SCOTUS will spend the next 50-60 years turning this country into pure fascism. Liberals need to grow a spine and stop bootlicking corporations and conservatives in general. There will never be a "center" America, they dont want that. They will not stop untill they have full power set in stone. There is no push back from the liberals, they just tell us to keep voting while laying down to the fascists. If they dont then ww2 would have been for nothing. There's nazis in nasa and fascism will be the new norm.
Thank you so much for standing up and doing what's right. It's so frustrating to watch these justices ger elected and actually sworn in and nobody with power well actually stand up and do the due diligence it takes to make sure we're not getting a paid for puppet on the supreme Court! Thank you for bringing this one back to the table.
Are you talking about that RACIST white man? He is a member of a country club that discriminates against people of color. But of course you hate brown people too
I'd like to see a Sheldon (not Brett) and Katie porter tag team, you're not getting out alive, it's such a change to witness good politicing, he's got a well deserved seat
His claim is that the procedure is set by the person who requested the action each time. So White House asks for tips on a candidate for a position, it is then up to the person from the White House that made that request to decide how that information is dealt with. So, he's claiming that there is no requirements on the FBI on how any of that information is dealt with, and that it's on a per request. The Senator asked for any written rules on how Tips are dealt with at any point in the process including before they are separated into the requests.
@@nehpets216 Yes, I think you're accurately describing what transpired, but I still think it's weird for the White House to have tips made at the FBI and then those tips are just turned over to the White House. The White House should have their own "tip line" if they actually wanted to receive tips that only they would deal with.
Literally no Americans are asking about this nonsense. Several "leads" from the top line were published and each turned out to have been as false as the Blasey-Ford and Sweatnik testimony.
Thanks for staying on top of this, Senator. I’ve worked with several Members of Congress as well as with several agencies and I know you all are busy. The agencies rely on you to lose interest, change staff personnel who drafted the letter, etc., allowing them to get away with dragging their feet. But your constituents rely on you all to be a “pain in the neck” to those agencies which you charged with overseeing, and you really seem to understand that. Neither house of Congress is set up to conduct oversight very well, and so often they don’t do it well. The GAO is not always very helpful. Committee staff are not very familiar with how the various operating and staff divisions work, so they don’t know where to look for answers, etc., etc. Thanks to you for your diligence, and for taking all aspects of your job seriously.
Happy bid R, thank you so much for this enlightning peek into backstage strategies and other elements! And sorry about the misspelling of your moniker but I am new to iPhone and the difficulty of correcting text when it was so easy on android
Good Lord! How many times have I watched Sen. Whitehouse ask information from Christopher Wray and Wray not provide the information he requested? This is ridiculous. Keep hounding him, Sen. Whitehouse, great work on YOUR part!
Whitehouse is giving Wray an ultimatum. This is your last chance to turn over the information we need. We may finally see Biden replacing Wray if he doesn’t comply. That is my heartfelt wish anyhow. I think Wray needs to be investigated for his complicity in 1-6. He had the information and kept it from Congress.
It amazes me that after asking Wray for this information for over a year and Wray putting him off, that Whitehouse wasn't more demanding. Like "No excuses, I want and expect this information in 30 days. Do you understand what I am saying Mr, Wray? Don't make me ask for this information again, got it?" How he keeps his cool, I don't know.
I've suggested to several Senator's offices that they should send a list of the questions that they want answered to the heads of these agencies a week or so in advance of these hearings. Tell them that they're expected to have answers to these questions!! If they continue to stall, then hold them in contempt of Congress!
The corruption in the high offices of government is staggering. Perhaps it’s time that these offices become ELECTED positions. We the people need to be able to weed out this inept unelected bureaucrats.
Senator Whitehouse has taught me more about how to be persistent than anyone else I know. His clarity, focus, expertise, deliberateness, measure and decency are exemplary.
Stop! My sides are splitting. Ri,s Whitehouse is a partisan hack. An embarrassment. Doesn't give a darn about the Biden mess or hillaries Russian hoax.
lol, Sheldon Whitehouse is a bag of AIDS. lolol. Buffoonery of it's finest order. Let's keep character assassinating Brett Kavanaugh #boofing. Also, cool lisp.
@@cooper1239 Poor Mr. Cooper. A lot of theories. Just no evidence. In the best traditions of Republican crazies trying to overthrow the election. Biden's mess is not in litigation here. He obviously doesn't know anything about the Russian hoax or he would know that William Barr did what he was called to do when he falsified what the Müller Report said. It's good. When the intelligent flourish, they need to know what stupidity looks like.
Senator Whitehouse is brilliant. I can only admire his restraint and self-control in speaking to Mr Wray. He is appropriately assertive and no more. The delay in getting responses to reasonable questions about the Kavanaugh matter has been unconscionable.

ALL THESE INVESTIGATIONS THAT SUPPOSEDLY GO ON, THEY ARE BURIED, DON'T HAPPEN, AND ARE FORGOTTEN UNLESS THERE IS POLITCAL GAIN TO THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST PARTY.
John Hoffman, you're too kind, John..."increduility and lack of sincerity" for sure! My view is dereliction of duty!!! Can the sh*t bag. (sorry, I'm not as nice as you, I'll work on it😇) 👍 Does Wray not understand that we kind of expect the FBI to find stuff? And the fact they don't produce documents screams of incompetency if not corruption? Thank's for letting me vent, here, John, have a good one!
I respect and admire Senator Whitehouse so much. I think his timing is perfect right now for this issue; he is more likely to get the support needed to get the truth about this suspicious confirmation.
Interesting opinion..Whitehouse is wasting tax payer dollars on investigating a Supreme Court Judge that has been investigated 6 times already by the fbi before he was even elected. This is nothing but another clown show by democrats...Maybe work on fixing 40 year high inflation so people can afford groceries and gas..
@@deneanepoynter8334 Porter? Needs to get out more. In the past it has been a given that there be a North - South representation to balance the ticket. Now I think that there needs to be a change to that with an East - West being a reliable pick.

I'm wondering why the FBI Director was not replace by Biden particularly for this issue. To me this was negligence if not conspiratorial for not investigating those humdreds of tips by the public. Is this dereliction or by direction?
Understand your point but the FBI should not be political as ex-president Trump made it. FBI Directors are supposed to serve for 10 years, if I remember correctly. Their time in office is supposed to overlap multiple White House administrations. On that note, I hope you realize that the FED chair is also a Trump appointee, and Biden didn't replace him. The FED has a duty of controlling inflation and Jerome Powell is currently doing the best he can given the circumstances. People who rail at Biden about the inflation, regardless that this inflation is global, fail to realize that the person in-charge is their so called "favorite" president appointee. Furthermore, not to bash Trump but to give him some credit. I would say Trump did the best he could as president without any prior government experience. He was consumed with undoing his predecessor's legacy than actually working to build his own reputable legacy. As a result, he got in his own way time and time again. Finally, Trump campaigned on running our government like his businesses. The question we should as is how did he run his businesses?
I don't understand how these people are allowed to continue in their jobs. This happened with Obama. And now with Biden. Let's keep playing whackamole, ok? AAAAGGGHHHHH.
Do I have this correct? Trump nominates someone to the Supreme Court and then directs the FBI not to perform a background investigation, the FBI just goes along? How is Wray walking the streets as a free man?
Lewis G. Yes, you have that correct. Trump, his AG, DOJ leadership have their fingertips all over this cover-up. And indirectly 49 Republican senators confirming. Manchin, unsurprisingly, voted as well for confirmation.
I don't trust Wray. He sounds like he is running for office and is dodging Senator Whitehouse's questions. Wray needs to go because he is covering for Trump. I would lay money on it too.
Senator Whitehouse never fails to impress. It is extremely angering that Kavanaugh was not adequately investigated prior to confirmation. Wray is being evasive in this questioning.
You have been more than patient, Senator. Thank you for your ever-so-dignified approach to what is clearly a stall tactic on the part of Director Wray. I pray corruption is not Mr. Wray’s motivation. Each time he fails to provide information I am less convinced of Director Wray’s integrity, and more convinced he is protecting himself and or others from further scrutiny.
P.J. and Squee should be watching this. 🍿🍕🍺🍺🍺🍺 Thank you, Sen. Whitehouse! Imagine Katie Porter and Sheldon Whitehouse against the corrupt goons. 🥊🥊👩🏻🏫📊📉📈
So many trails left over from the former administration that have dribbled on and on without resolution. It may be that what the former guy excels at is drawing things out so that his misdeeds can slither away unnoticed. What a con. Thank you, Senator Whitehouse for your integrity and forthrightness.
Yay! Senator Whitehouse! I thought everyone had dismissed this, but you are a honorable man. Watching the neglect and cover-ups with the Kavanaugh investigation was one of the most disappointing turns of the Trump admin and how he got his 'people' into high offices.
@@pua6095 I'm just curious how Kavanaugh and Trump are related. I know the sexual harassment accusations were made up. Do you think that was a cover up?
They had information and chose not to follow up on it. That's a violation of their oath and the director needs to be fired and investigated for corruption.
The doggedness of Whitehouse to pin down the details of corruption is incredible especially since any number of Kavanaugh's public answers made it patently clear he did not have the temperament to be the referee of a touch football game let alone a Supreme Court judge.
It would be admirable except that Whitehouse has no interest in pressing the FBI or DOJ to investigate democrat corruption such as Hunter Biden/Joe Biden, the murder of an unarmed female in the capitol, Pelosi insider trading that enriched her husband, and the refusal to enforce border law just to name a few.
A lot of comments here are critical of the FBI Director, and rightfully so. I’ve worked on public policy and legislation for many years, and I was frankly impressed that he decided not to hither and either like 99% of Agency witnesses do. He hesitates answering each time, but I think he understands that the Senator is not going to put up with yet another delay in getting their questions answered, and so he speaks comparatively bluntly in response which is exactly what the Senator wanted. Until Congressmen and Senators get serious about getting the agencies to answer their mail, they won;t do it. It’s their natural knee jerk reaction to hide and delay, and I’ve seen it firsthand, even when the staff is getting questions that didn’t involve their personal actions or decisions. That has got to stop. Cut their budgets to get their attention, if you have to.
Senator Whitehouse thank you, for addressing this issue and for being aggressive and blunt and to the point! This game that they are playing, in ignoring your previous requests is unacceptable.
Are you talking about that RACIST white man? He is a member of a country club that discriminates against people of color. But of course you hate brown people too
SNL made a skit about kav but watching the director of the fbi tip toe around these questions today is by far the most hilarious thing other than he's a waste of tax payer money
It's "Last call at the Factual Corrections Saloon with respect to the Kavanaugh supplemental " We need more people like Senator Whitehouse in government. Next up: Christopher Wray will claim the dog ate his homework.
