Sensitive skin can be truly annoying. So many new patients come to me who are suffering with red, dry, irritated skin and they simply can't figure out why. I'm here to share the top sensitive skincare mistakes I see in my practice to make sure you aren't making the same mistakes too. I will also share in this video how to repair your skin if you have indeed made any of these common sensitive skincare mistakes.

Great video, Dr. Ellis! Amen to stick with what works. The skin care/cosmetics industry is constantly pushing new products that aren't only not necessary, but for sensitive skin they can be very disruptive.

Thanks for mentioning the over exfoliation. People sometimes don't realize that just washing their face with the fingers is a type of physical exfoliation.

Niacinamide seems to be touted as a great soother to the skin but I cannot tolerate it at all, in any percentage. I used Cetaphil soap for many years and couldn't figure out why my face developed a horrible case of contact dermatitis. I finally figured out that they changed their formulation and added niacinamide
@thai8020
@thai8020 6 дней назад
THIS!! Niacinamide started really irritating my skin and I see it everywhere in “calming” products. and even Cetaphil/CeraVe/La Roche Posay products don’t universally work for everyone…those brands have always irritated my skin. I think with sensitive skin you really need to just check ingredients and see how your skin responds.

Same here niacinamide and silicones are the ingredients that I avoid at all cost in my moisturizers. It took years for me to figure it out because niacinamide is the "it" girl for skincare I tried to force the issue.

I have sensitive skin and my skin seems to get sensitized to niacinamide only when my skin barrier is compromised, such as when I’ve used my prescription retinoid (struggling to tolerate it). Then every product besides water burns but only until they dry.

I’ve had sensitive, reactive skin my whole life (had eczema as a baby) along with several random allergies. My core four are the cetaphil gentle cleanser, aveeno daily moisturizing face cream, beauty of joseon sunscreen, and CeraVe healing ointment! I can’t handle tretinoin or most exfoliants but I’ve recently had luck with the neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair retinol (fragrance free version) & the Paula’s choice 6% mandelic acid + 2% lactic acid exfoliant. Hugs and good luck to all my fellow sensi skin pals out there!🫶🏻

I have rosacea and really sensitive skin. Love the Bioderma Sensibio, LRP Toleriane, Cerave's hidrating and Cetaphil Redness Control lines. BOJ Rice SPF is the only one not causing more irritation (tried a lot of mineral ones too, but none this good). My skin also likes the Ordinary's Buffet serum, the Klairs blue sheet mask and Cerave's resurfacing retinol serum, I use these occasionally.

Yes to paring down the number of products! When I eliminated serums, masks and multiple moisturizers, my rosacea-prone skin got so much better. Vanicream cleanser, Prequel moisturizer, my topical rosacea prescription and an SPF is it for me. Saves time and money too.

What is your prescription for rosacea ?
@SightWordMovies
@SightWordMovies 5 дней назад
@@bethvasquez9003 My dermatologist has it sent from a pharmacy online. It’s invermectin 1%, metronidazole, niacinamide 4%, and azelaic acid all in one. Insurance won’t cover rosacea (I’m in the US) so it costs $49 for 30g but that lasts nearly 2 months. I’ve tried ALL the other medications and this is the best-no more breakouts and bumps, no side effects. I think a lot of the online skincare companies offer the same thing, and probably most dermatologists would know about it.

Some products that work for me are Vanicream moisturizing lotion and cream; Bioderma Micellar Water for sensitive skin; Cotz Mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin (albeit much too heavy in warmer weather); LaRoche Posay All Mineral sunscreen; and Dr. Idriss Depouffer, Hyper Serum; and Flash Mask (exfoliator).

Thank you so much . The whole ‘natural’ and ‘essential oils’ drives me nuts and desperately wish people would learn that such oils are the worst for skin! Products that really helps for me is the La roche toleriane night sensitive cream- soothes & minimised my sensitivity over time. Cicaplast b5 is also great ( edit- incredibly sorry but how does the Celimax dual barrier wearable cream compare to my La Roche night cream? I saw you mention it in a video after I searched for the moisturiser. I’m interested in it ☺️) I really absolutely can’t wait for your products to be available in Australia! Thank you for your products. I am using the lotion with Urea. Love the gel balm. Love vitamin c serum and the calming serum. The texture is great. In the winter, I love the Nessaire balm for the body. Vanicream and Paula's Choice rescue and repair face lotion is great. Eczema - prone, dry skin person on dupixent: Although I’ve been on dupixent for quite some time and it has changed my life drastically to the better my skin still is nowhere near “not - sensitive”. Because of that I focus on moisturizing and protecting. I’d love to use actives but my skin doesn’t tolerate most of them most of the time. My routine: 1. Wash my face with water (morning), …with a foamy cleanser (NOT foaming) by ISANA…I tolerate it and it’s cheap (evening) 2. All in Barrier Cream by No Cosmetics (Germany) with ceramides 3. Cicaplast Baum B5+ by La Roche Posay 4. Vaseline 5. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics…I tolerate it if my skin is not inflamed (Haven’t found one yet that works for me during an eczema flare up and doesn’t make me look like a white wall and/or super oily) Hope this helps!

My face didn’t like that LRP moisturizer. But it does like the Vanicream Daily moisturizer. When my skin freaks out, I cut back to the Cetaphil cleanser with the light blue cap, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF in the AM and the one without at night, and Now Shea Butter as my occlusive. This routine gets my skin feeling normal again in a few days, but I stick with it for a week or two to let my skin recover. I’ve tried the routine without the essence toner, but it doesn’t recover as quickly without it.

As someone who has struggled with eczema for most of my life, I've found that skincare that includes prebiotics & probiotics help my skin barrier recover fastest. So I often use oil-based products, as well as ones with fermented ingredients - partly because my skin has become dry. It's been bad enough at times that even the Embryolisse Lait Crème Sensitive moisturizer has felt like it was burning my skin. This past winter, when it's typically painfully dry so it makes my skin even more sensitive, I was using La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm (at night), Holika Holika Good Cera Super Ceramide Toner, drops of flaxseed oil (high in omega-3 fatty acid) mixed into BYOMA Moisturizing Rich Cream (for day), BYOMA Balancing Face Mist when needed., & e.l.f. Invisible Sunscreen SPF 35 as both an occlusive layer & as a makeup primer.

I learned when you're using a retinoid every day, then you might need a day or two of nothing (no actives) prior to using an exfoliant. I felt like I didn't get this advice anywhere (alot of less sensitive people use actual Tret every day then on the 7th day do a chemical exfoliant). Also so many seemingly soothing products have caprylic triglycerides-- I'm super, SUPER acne prone to anything coconut oil related and even this "non-comodogenic" coconut derivative breaks me out. Also, Shea butter breaks me out and it's in every soothing rich cream. Took me ages to figure both out

It was like having to learn how to read and write from zero. Sounds stupid but it took me months to re-learn how to remove my mascara and the tone of sunscreen without ending over stripped. Even the most delicate contact with my fingertips became a rush. I felt like being 300 kgs and wake up being 30 kgs if it makes sense. LRP Toleriane and EUCERIN Aquaphor saved my life🩵💙.
