If you use a bit of baking powder with the superglue you create a really durable plastic like substance you can sand smooth. This should strengthen the bond between magnet and pipe even further. But i bet you knew that already. ;)
I am literally shocked. I was literally looking on your page for this exact type of tutorial for my prop an hour earlier! And you just post this today! Thank you, thank you!
I didn't know what cosplay is, and I don't even really play video games. But RU-vid recommended your channel to me (for some reason?) Well I've now watched every single video you ever posted and I want to buy your books. Just because I wish the whole world had your personality. Thank you. You are awesome.
When doing the 4:10 part wear eye protection, don't make my mistake!!! I had an accident this summer doing exactly that. Super glue got into my eye and that wasn't very pleasant. Lost about a week healing, and now I"m not allowed to wear contacts for a year. P.S. I failed to make it properly and now I have two-meter inseparable mage"s staff.
This is so helpful! I've made big props before and tried implementing this method of using different sized pvc pipes with magnets, but having it all laid out answers a lot of questions!
Hello Svetlana, my 7 years old girl asked me to create an armor to become a "warrior princess" (obviously it has to be pink!!!) and I would like to realize it to make her happy. I would like to use some simple material like fabric and "yoga-matress" foam. Can you please make a video to help me in this project? I think it will be great for all the parents that want to make their childrens happy...it would be a way to strenghten the bonds between father/mother and childrens... Thanks...BTW you're doing a great job with your videos...thank for all the things that you're teaching us...
omg this is literally what i've been waiting for >~< but is there any way to seperate a giant sword? because these pipes would be kinda too thick for that
Awesome tips and video. This will really help when I make my Wonder Woman sword shortly. Haven't been doing cosplay for very long and already running out of room 😂
This looks very cool and useful! I’m just a bit confused about how the two magnets don’t end up glued together. Is it because superglue doesn’t stick to the packing tape?
Lol I have this problem so much but with my actual costumes because I incorporate wire into basically _everything_ to make sure it's all shaped correctly and then when it comes to storage I'm just like, "maybe I can just keep it on the floor and step around it?" Haha
I've been watching your videos a lot lately in preparation for making a bow for a con this autumn and I had 2 questions: 1. Is the magnet method the best for making a bow or is there a different/better way you store your prop bows? 2. Does the prop stay together even when you wave it around like a lunatic? (I want to gauge how much abuse/strain it can take so I know whether to be super careful with it or not)
im curious about the second question as well. i made one of my shitty old weapons with this method, and it stays even if i shake it. however, it's also very light, so i'm not sure if it's the same for heavier props. i'll be making another prop using this method, and this one is a greatsword so i'll update you if it stays put!
@@luchinosimp any update on this? I'm wondering if its a good method stable enough to use for something like Guts' Dragonslayer or if I should go with threaded PVC pipes instead.
This helped a lot, I'm making a pyramid head cosplay as a commission and the sword is huge. This helps. How would you suggest i could make the head detachable and attach together? thanks
Def might do for my Galo matoi prop! The top and streamers are removable as well as the bottom will be in 2.0 but the pole itself isn't so it's pretty long.
How much weight can those magnets hold? I tried using magnets on a prop i was making and i guess my magnets werent strong enough so im looking into it. Thank you for all you do, youre my inspiration 😊
Ill do this when i rebuild Banryu from Inuyasha (really big sword. Almost 2 meters and i did use the metric system for easier math for scale) i used pvc and corresponding screw pieces of pvc. Ill try the magnets next time.
this looks really helpful!! I was wondering though, would this work for VERY large props that might be heavier than what is shown here? A sword i want to make for a costume is like 8.5 feet long. I was thinking of separating the handle from the blade so avoid visual seams, but the blade would still be over 5 feet long by itself...
Is there any tape or glue combination to avoid? Something that may cause a bad fume reaction or “melt” through the tape and causing the magnets to get glued together.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I will definitely use it for my current project. Did you ever have problems with the magnets falling out? It's kinda hard to imagine that the superglue just keeps them in place. Also, is Superglue Kraftkleber in German, or something else?
would you have to build the prop around the connecting parts? unless its really so simple as just drilling holes and gluing the pipes in after make the prop
Question; in the video you say you use a 1mm x 5mm magnet, but the Amazon link is for 2mm in various sizes? Does it matter which size you use or does it depend on the prop? I'm using 3/4inch and 1/2inch pvc pipe.
I wish our hardware stores had PVC that could go into each other "stock". Ours is something like Home Depot or Lowers, but their PVC sizes to not go into each other without some sanding/dremeling to get rid of excess. It's a pain in the butt. Probably because EU uses the metric system and we don't, that makes me sad
I don't have a lot of time for youtubering or gaming so I can't go looking for the vids, so is the sword from mhw a dual blade glavenus? Or what weapon and monster then? I'd like to make it in the game as it looks cool, when I have the time of course
Love the channel, and this was a good video, but I have OCD about proper nomenclature/tool names so I have to nit pick, that's a scroll saw not a band saw.
There is nothing Svetlana can do that anybody with a degree in electrical engineering and years of experience couldn't do ................ or someone with her books and a lot of patience.
leider ist der kleber von barge nicht mehr verfügbar ☹️ gibt es andere alternativen? bei 4:47 das ist doch die musik von Final Fantasy 8 wenn ich mich richtig erinner 😄
