In this video we're looking at the latest news from the SMMT regarding new car sales in September, where diesel outsold EVs. #news #breaking #carnews #newcarnews #cars
Tesla Model 3 was the one hit wonder, but now everyone who wants one either has one or can't afford one. It's done and no cheaper (Golf sized) or Model 1in sight.

@John_S... Diesel will be around forever until a new tech is made that can beat it. Just think about trucking, military, shipping, farming and heavy plant. There is nothing to replace the sustained "grunt " you get from diesel engines.
@@markuskruger2102 Skoda, Lada and Dacia are very nice cars and the Wartburg was nice for its time as well. So its onyl the Trabant that was outdated and underperforming even when it was new.

Was helping my daughter move house yesterday and my ex was also there. She is a financial director of a large construction company who drives a 3 year old MUstang Mac E. We got talking about EV's and she told. me that her company are now no longer going to supply EV's as company cars and if any emplyees want an electric company car they now have to go through a salery sacrifice scheme. The reason being that now the first of teir company EV's are coming to the end of the deals they are loosing so much money on the resale values that they can no longer justify suppling them as they are loosing so much money.
So they supplied EVs when the price of them was ridiculously high, and everyone knew the prices were "falling off a cliff", but they aren't buying them now that the prices are getting nearer to the ground? Does she work for Bob the Builder, or another cartoon character? What sort of company couldn't predict that the decreasing price of new EVs would have the effect of considerably reducing the resale price of their fleet? They should take the money from the idiots who didn't know that, not from the employees who are happy with the EVs.
Geoff we’re screwed .you know it , I know it.We make nothing in the country that started the Industrial Revolution and was the workshop of the world . Made in England used to be your guarantee of quality, a couple of generations ago. Our glorious leaders have absolutely no idea , neither do they care about what the people think or want. It’s all gone to xxxx and I’m trying to be enthusiastic here 😵💫
If you dig around in the classic car world there are still some really clever people left working their engineering magic in every way you can think of 😉
Everyone wants a bargain. If a used EV is cheaper than an ICE vehicle it will sell. But the price of diesel vehicles are collapsing along with petrol cars. The pump price for fossil fuel is reducing month on month. If you want an ICE vehicle buy one. If you want a fossil fuel vehicle buy one. Its all about choice
@@barn2255 or he bought a Twizzy or Ami with less than 10kW battery & short range type of thing. Even the naff Dacia Spring has a 26kW battery If you're lucky you can still find the odd free charger, say at one or Sainsburys but very rare now Eon Next Drive v4 now beats Octopus Intelligent on both peak & off-peak rates (No smart Zappi/Ohme charger required, which could cost a grand to fit if no freebie wall-charger with EV, heck you can just carry on using a 3 pin granny charger on Eon ND - unlike other providers) Or if you go to Tomato Energy 6hrs at 5p, plus 2 x 2hrs at 13p & 14hrs at 23p (No gas with Tomato - electric only)
That's the plan - not enough of anything, so average plebs like us won't be able to drive in the end. There's a big copper shortage right now too because EV's and Wind Turbines use so much of it.
People have just let too much of a goverment into their private life - that is all. Everyone just need to recall who the real authority is (the hint in the word "an author") and kick self proclaimed foux "autority" out. The laws are still there. Should we just need to recall those laws and use them for our benefits?

Can you do a video on what is happening to 3 year old EV cars and who is buying them from the auctions when the fleet operators sell them? It would also be good to see what happens when they are not sold at the auctions? Is there a massive stockpile of 3 year old EV's somewhere?
I don't think we are there yet. I got my first EV company car Jan 2023 I will report back in 2026. The last ones were 4 years or 100k whichever came first so may be longer
@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 Wrong. EVs are being pre-registered to meet targets and avoid government fines. They're not actually sales, they just count as sales on paper. Look at Autotrader. There's over 30 pages of pre-registered Volvo EX30 EVs with delivery miles available for circa £35k. Some are over two years old.
As it happens, I just visited my local Ford dealership. Was in there to find rare parts for my 08’ Ford Mondeo mk4 2.2 tdci, of which I have NO intention of getting rid of. Ford also told me the parts I require are obsolete! So I went looking at their EV’s sat inside their showroom. £15-18,000 deposits, with £500+ per month payments. Sod an EV purchase.
AHH had an ST mondy diesel. Machine silver but wished it was the blue. Best car I ever had, done everything, Torque and economical too and very reliable, regret getting rid off
Good luck in several town centres in the next few years. You have no offspring as nobody would mate with you? You hate the environment and like more extreme weather as the climate changes? Shame on you
Think my next car will be exactly that, I have a diesel civic, the only problem I have with it is the difficulty trying to work on it myself because diesel.
What will happen to the Governments finances when 42,000 independent garages stop trading when we only have electric cars , plus all the parts suppliers etc etc etc ??? . Great videos , keep um coming 👍
My Classic Defender, 34 years old, owned for nearly 20 years, great 200TDi engine, nearly 200k miles. Go anywhere, starts first time, fully analogue, could run on a multitude of fuels……
I’m so glad that I’ve kept my VW diesel Golf Estate. It’s got about 90,000 on the clock, runs efficiently and will do so because I have it serviced regularly. I’m going to keep it until either it or I am no longer fit to be on the road. It will NEVER be replaced by an EV.
Having a brand new license plate yearly is almost as bad as leasing a car that costs more than your mortage or getting the latest iPhone for its tiny yearly upgrades to look like a big shot!
I phones are cheap now. Less than android. Who on earth has a new license plate yearly even a lease is 2 3 or 4 years. And a mortgage payment for a new house now would be closer to £2k. I know they used to be £600 when a house was £115k. But houses are easily £350k now.

Don't we all. My last diesel car died. And the one I currently have has just had another battery fail and sometimes won't unlock on the remote and when I use the key to get in the alarm goes off. Also the air conditioning has died again. It's a 2011. And the last car was a 2008. So many things went wrong. Water leak, oil leak. Power strearing fail. Dmf clutch. Fractured spring wheel bearing. It wasn't starting very well either. Newer cars are built to have loads of failures after 10 years old.
I had a toy corvette when I was young that accidentally got driven over by my Dad’s real Vauxhall. I actually preferred the squashed look of it. It became my new favourite toy car even beating the Ferrari F40 and Lamborghini Countache. Nice collection Geoff! Thanks for the update 👍

Ironically....90% of all EV drivers would never switch back. 8% would switch to hybrid and a solid 2% would switch back to petrol or diesel.... So... yep.
Please quote your data source? I know 3 people with EVs, 2 business users and one private. One of the business users is getting rid of their EV and going back to ICE, the other wants to but can’t afford the extra tax. The private user has just ordered a new hybrid Lexus for when the lease on their Tesla ends. My “not very scientific” figures (but with source data explained) shows 66% going back to ICE and only 33% remaining, albeit reluctantly, with an EV.
@@theonlywoody2shoesI work with nearly 200 companies and I’ve heard no positives for the companies with EVs. They are either reluctantly keeping them but switching from 100% EV FLEET to switching slowly out or straight up cancelling the the ones they would be getting back to diesel and petrol. The staff hate them and have had enough due to their reliability and loss of time in the working day. They work for the minority of people. The fact people have to be convinced they work is hilarious as a good product speaks for itself. I don’t want to be convinced or. Coerced into buying something if it’s a good product I will buy it. I also shouldn’t have to compromise, adapt, spend more, lose time for something that is bought to help me get from a to b. I have a car to take that away!
@@keegan773I've been looking into the charge prices. If you stick to Tesla superchargers it's actually reasonably priced and they almost always work at full speed as advertised.

I began investing in stocks and Def earlier this year, and it is the best choice l've ever made. My portfolio is rounding up to almost a million and I have realized that when a stock makes it to the news, chances are you're quite late to the party, the idea is to get in early on blue chips before it becomes public. There are lots of life changing opportunities in the market, and maximize it.

I give mine (same engine same year, same model) 2 Stroke Oil from 180k miles (back in 2016) almost every single tank of fuel... until these (turbulent days of EV forced down our throats) days, when the same car, ..same engine, ...same turbo, same timing chain, ..same fuel pump, ..same EGR, ..same exhaust, ..same catalytic convertor, same senzors around the engine since 2005(!!!) has over 310k miles on the clock. And it never ever missed a start! Yeah, I rebuild the alternator, changed preventive water pump, replace springs and bearings to the wheels,... discs, brake pads, what we usually do as owners.., Do you think that this car it is for sale? No, is not and it will never be for sale! Please promise that you will keep that car.. because if you like BMW, just read bellow what issues are with newer engines.. I have as well an X1, B47... horror.. went in for EGR cooler to be replaced, beacuse has a recall because the car can catch fire when start loosing coolant. And after they replaced EGR cooler, the DDE is keep throwing errors about EGR not closing down!! After it came from official dealer!!! ..Same engine at just 89k miles has errors... 2 pressure sensors that are about to let (loose fuel through their cases... up the the cabling - in capillary effect..) about 4 BARs of FUEL PRESSURE towards the DDE!! It is a timing bomb literally until the vehicle wont start because internal short-circuit of DDE, IF I DON'T change at least 2 sensors that costs £250 and £200 EACH. At 89K miles!!!!!! The internet is full of these issues! It does not take long to realised WHAT CRAP ENGINES THEY MAKE...
I'd a lad out with me who works for the council, he's got an EV transit. He said, can he come in my van as he wanted to get home without charging. He gets about 90 miles and he said if you add any pay load you're fecked 😅

@@colinritchie1510 I had a couple of 3L V6 diesel A8s which were great to drive. The same engine in a lighter A4 was even better... The only thing it lacked was air suspension which you could only have in the Allroad.
It's arguable that no amout of government support would shore up EV sales. A heavily subsidised EV would be like giving someone a free elephant to use for personal transportation. It's completely non-viable, as drivers have discovered.
Government should keep their noses out of industry and their customers. They tried huge subsidies and tax breaks that only really benefitted the rich and company car drivers, and the country has no more money to give away. Just let customers chose the vehicle that suits their needs.
@@escapetheratracenow9883 Obviously some kind of extreme anarcho-capitalist or something. 'Let customers choose?!' Radical! Next thing you know he'll be demanding free speech.
I don’t see it like that, Geoff. That the manufacturers are asking for help, I mean. I see it that, 1) Manufacturers were forced down this route at considerable cost to them but at zero cost to the governments. B) The manufacturers have tried but are now saying to the governments (really the WEF), ‘We can’t sell them. No one wants them. Over to you.’ Again, I say it’s only a matter of time until collective manufacturers sue these ridiculous governments over lost revenue. They are already sending stern objections as a collective force. I hope it continues. I know two people with an EV. One is elderly, he drives a few miles a week. The other has an ev amongst a collection of five or six.
Never understood how the Government has the right to require manufacturers to sell a certain percentage of EVs or face a financial penalty. We live in a free-market economy. Companies have the right to sell what the hell they want (provided it's legal) and how much of it they want without Government interference. Nothing like this has ever happened before; and, unless there's a handbrake U-turn, the British car industry will disappear. We've held off buying another car for seven years now, and can't see ourselves buying another until and unless the EV policy is reversed. And I'm pretty sure we're not the only family doing this.
It was obvious 14 months ago, when I bought my new care which I do every 3 to 4 years I was told my petrol model would be approx 10months or 14 for diesel. BUT I could have a similar EV within 3 days but it was 9k More. Err no thanks I chose to wait. I am alread looking to buy a really big engine diesel in 2027. Which should see me out before I give up driving.
I just literally watched a video from EVM with regard to public charging versus petrol/diesel running costs, for those of us, myself included who don't have access to home charging, everyday running costs are more expensive, i run a small diesel, I can get to work and back for 5 shifts for £18-23 a week, less than half a tank of diesel, my weekly commute of around 300 miles, of which 80% of my commute is motorway mileage, I have a vehicle which is more than capable of driving in any conditions, I was recently criticised by another RU-vid channel for saying that £16000 was not "affordable" for a car that will only cater for town driving and only able to manage a WLTP range of 135 miles, I was told that I'm unreasonable, i would hate to think how much that would cost a week to run using the only charge point in the town and then adding on the parking charges, in the colder months, I wouldn't be able to get to and from work on a single charge, and for a car that would get me back and forth to work for a week, I would have to buy something at least twice the size (not good for someone who lives in the centre of town), and I would have to spend in excess of £25000, I didn't even pay that for for my house and my house isn't depreciating like a car
I have never understood why such a supposedly powerful worldwide consortium just rolled over without protestation at the start of this EV lunacy. Anyone with the iq of a child could see it was heading for the buffers taking all the Western manufacturers with it.
Hi Geoff, I've just bought the car I have wanted for the last 22 years! An 04 Discovery Td5. Before you slag me off for buying a Land Rover, I've had everything from series 2 up. This is my 4th Disco, but the one I always wanted. I intend to do a rolling restoration and keep it as long as possible! By the way, I'm 76!!
And the Fully Charged show is correct. Only 6.4% of new car sales in the UK were diesels last month and that number will continue to fall. Diesels are terrible for the environment and proven to be a major cause or respiratory illness in our towns and cities. Good riddance!
A guy dies and goes to heaven. He meets Jesus, who shows him around. They go into a room full of clocks, all going round at different speeds. The man asks Jesus what the clocks are for. Jesus replies that when someone is born, they're issued a clock, and every time they tell a lie, the clock speeds up. The man points to one in the corner, and asks why it's going much faster than all the others. Jesus replies "Oh, that's Robert Llewelyn's. We use it as a fan in the summer".
I drive about 5 miles a day and live in a detached house. I'm probably a perfect candidate for an EV. Except I am tight as F so I drive a 20 year old diesel. Maybe if I could buy a second hand EV for 1-2K I might be interested.
Great applause should be given to those that take care and pride in their vehicle...The whole renewing your vehicle every year or two is the biggest hypocrisy about this push for sustainability.
@@xperyskop2475 talking bolox.. You are just exporting your emissions . Where do you think electric comes from ? You are also supporting child labour in the cobalt mines in the Congo. Then there is the massive lithium mines running 100 ton dump trucks 24 hours a day which run on diesel. EVs are a 3rd heavier so cause more road degradation. They use more brakes and heavier on tyres. Then there is all the leaching, manufacturing, importing these essentially throw away milk fliats. I could go on but you wont research it. You already made your mind up that you are right.. Lol
@@xperyskop2475 "But ICE cars are going the way cigarettes are ." Good analogy. If my much-missed 2000 diesel was a cigarette then my 2016 diesel is more of a vape (heavy, complicated and messy - adblue anyone?).
I drive a 2.o tdci mondeo cost me agrand 12 months ago it's my 4th one all bits in scrap yard 2 miles away 55mpg my daughter got new focus hibrid 40mpg £350.per month😊
My workplace company car scheme demands you choose an EV unless you do >15000 miles per year, then they will (after a fight with HR to prove it) also let you choose a plug in hybrid instead if you want. Straight petrol or diesel is prohibited, as are mild hybrids, even if the emissions are less or close to some of the PHEVs on the list. Total madness! I can forgo using the company car scheme and take a cash equivalent if I want to avoid those restrictions, but after that money gets taxed it's nowhere near enough to source my own half-decent vehicle without being significantly worse off financially. Oh, and even if you take the money, BECAUSE you took the money, they have another policy you have to follow that says the car you choose MUST be under 130g/km of CO2 and less than 5 years old (or they wont pay the money). And if you go through all that and still end up with a diesel, get ready for the government to BIK tax you in to oblivion for the cheek of not looking after the planet! When does a company car stop being a benefit???
Does anyone know how the new insurance vehicle risk rating has classified EVs? Are they being appropriately rated by cost and lack of repairability, or has the govt twisted the Industry’s arm so that ICE vehicle drivers are subsidising them again?
I Bought A 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI Back In 2008 & I Had It For 5 Years, I Kicked It's Head In From Day One (Drove Like I Stole It 😂) Used It As A Taxi & Private Family Car, I Used To Get 400 Miles On A Single Tank Of Diesel Around Town Driving & 500 Miles On Motorway Only Driving, 500 Miles On One 50 Litre Tank (I Think It was) It Was The Best & Most Reliable & Economical Car I've Ever Had I Really Loved It Very Practical To 5 door Hatchback, I Bought It With Around 66,300 Miles On The Clock & Sold It With 173,400 Miles On It, I Only Ever Had 2 Real Issues With It 1, The Immobiliser Which Was Built Into The Dials/Clocks Which Cost £100 To Fix (Obviously Not From Ford Dealership) 2, Turbo Issue Just Before I Sold It Without Fixing It, So It Was Sold Cheaper But I Could Of Got It Fixed For £200-£300 But I Wanted Ridd Of The Car Because I Wanted A Change Of Car Bored Of It After 5 Years.
For pretty much all the cars I see, it's impossible to tell their route to market, unless a car is company signed or you can get close enough to identify a lease from the small writing on the reg plate, which accounts for about 0.01% of the cars I see on a journey. You must have special powers.
@StuartPearson-mj7uz there aren't many private individuals out there spending money on any cars, which is why heavily discounted diesels have taken a greater market share with falling sales. But, private individuals are taking excellent PCP deals. And they are taking EVs. The secondhand EV market is thriving, with CAP reporting EV prices increasing in a depreciating market. I'm seeing more and more EVs. They are to coin a phrase, common as muck. In 5 years a huge proportion of traffic will be EV. The knock on effects on fuel availability and prices will drive ICE decline.
I think you may find electricity get ever more expensive as demand increases it could even get to the point where there is not enough to go round, it does not come out the socket on the wall like magic it has to be generated.
@StuartPearson-mj7uz I think you'll find you're wrong. The only reason our electricity is expensive is because the price is linked to fossil fuels. That will end soon. The grid is already being upgraded to meet the demands of electrification. It will be done by 2035. What is going up in price is petrol & diesel. We know this. The statute is already passed. ETS carbon taxing will start in 2027.

Geoff you can make as many real world EV vlogs as you can but there's still a massive number of people out there that only see the EV TV adverts and are easily led or is that lied to?
@@stevewhitmill2037or maybe people can make their own minds up instead of listening to some random bloke on RU-vid. Have you ever owned an EV? Sounds like it's you that's easily led.
Morning Geoff. I went out last week to replace my petrol engined car, I was intending to buy a hybrid. I bought a new 2.0 lt. Diesel estate. I wasn't asked once if l wanted a electric or hybrid car. I have dealt with the same Skoda dealership for many years. The car I traded in I owned. I got a great deal. I bought on PCP, to get all the discounts, including my loyalty discount. They gave me cash back. I worked it out and I will have the PCP paid off in 18-24 months (4 year deal). Again saving me money. As this my last car I will be buying I have treated myself to the latest Skoda Superb 2.0lt 193 estate L&K. It will be a good mate to my 20 year old Vauxhall Combo Van. Please carry on saving the old Volvo's , I still remember my Volvo 360 GLT. It used to fly. Keep making the videos.
I stepped out this morning for a nice little walk around my neighbourhood, and whilst I was out I made a conscious effort to spot as many EVs as I could. I kid you not when I say that they were nearly as scarce as hen's teeth. In my own street there were some 60 cars parked (both on and off street) and not a single one was an EV. Going a little further out I spotted a grand total of 2 EVs, neither of which was on a 24 plate. My guestimate is that I saw around 200 cars parked (mostly on street) and only 2 were electric. So yes, the Great British public in my neck of the woods do not want electric vehicles.
I’m thinking that there might be a few coins to be made in converting all these unwanted second hand EV’s to diesel. You’d keep the electric motors and drive shafts but just replace most of the battery bank with a diesel generator and fuel tank. The car you’d end up with would be much lighter, still have electric car acceleration, but it would be like a normal car to use.
Private buyers are still leasing them. Normally off the back of company car allowance money. I spoke to the guy who sold us our Sportage 3 years ago as he rang trying to push us a £75k EV9 and I said level with me “who’s buying these cars personally”? He replied with just a small handful of wealthy pensioners who are essentially buying their last car and are not worried about depreciation and future values. Says everything you need to know.
Hi Geoff, my wife was evacuated from her bank office as a Tesla in the small underground car park had spontaneously combusted, several other cars burnt. Thanks for fighting for the motorist Geoff
If you followed politics and propaganda of the last year you should get the idea that Solar Panels and Windturbines were not about the environment, they were preperation for war and the expectation of getting cut off of oil and gas.
Hey geoff iv a garage in cornwall and were starting to find parts for cars older than 2010 harder to find with most parts been obsolete and no loger available and when we do get parts there nearly 4x more expensive
