I watch a ton of golf videos on RU-vid. With that said I can't say enough about your teaching technique. I took it to the range today and this particular video totally changed my swing. I always struggled with weight transfer and consistent contact. After a bucket of balls, I was hitting my 9 iron 140 plus and my 7 iron 160 plus. Not bad for a guy 63 years old. So far, I have watched about 6 or 7 of your videos and will continue to support your channel. I am from the Pittsburgh area and wish you guys were closer. Maybe someday I will make the trip to Arizona for one of your golf schools. Thank you so much, Paul

Amazing video! You just explained what I couldn't understand about what exactly was happening when I felt proper sequencing and when I wasn't, which will help me get there more often and find my way back to when tension kills the proper movement...like the final round of an important tournament I blew my chance to win just yesterday. Of the thousands of videos I've watched over the years, this might be the best one for me because I know from experience that it's foundational but I didn't fully understand it, so couldn't hold onto it for long or quickly find my way back to it. Thank you.

Wow, just wow... I took this to the range and hit the longest most effortless shots of my life. I felt the continued loading in transition and the anatomical explanation really helped me to feel it. I was worried that this would get the hand and club stuck too far behind me but it whips that club with so much velocity that it catches up just fine. Thanks!

I totally get it. I run a doctoral program in sports medicine. I have learned that if I use the laymen’s terms first and then clarify with the anatomical terms, they don’t shut off, but if I use the fancy terms first (even though more accurate), they shut off more. I think the fact that you think in the anatomical terms and appreciate the subtle differences is part of what makes your take uniquely good. I’m just trying to pass some teaching-learning on back to you :). Keep rockin’ it!

This was great to understand the loading and unloading sequence. In fact I noted that when unloading the spiral on the way down, the arms(anterior/posterior) get passively loaded further for the ruberband fascia to whip the club.

What a great video. Especially the concept of increasing the distance between sternum and hands while spiraling. For someone who’s fought an early inside move then arm lift, this is a game changer. Also, the idea of nearly maxing out shoulder rotation before transition. That goes against “conventional wisdom”, but it absolutely works in practice! Keep it up, eagerly awaiting one on set-up.

Outstanding video. I’m a physician and I’m always impressed with your knowledge of anatomy. I have some confusion though… I’m sure you are aware of Mr Greg Rose (chiropractor genius at TPI). He describes pressure plate sequencing of the lower body and reactive ground forces. For driver… Proper lower body sequencing is lateral shift to lead side, followed by horizontal plane shift, followed by twist, followed by jump. In your opinion, how do we combine both your sequencing of the upper body and pressure plate sequencing of the lower body? Thanks!
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 11 месяцев назад
I would agree with that but how he describes it in sequence our terminology would differ. Our preference is pressure shift based on the dropping action of the pelvis and lateral movement of the rib cage complex. Almost all of the items described here by TPI we describe through spiral movement 🙏🙏

This is great, this makes sense, true separation will only happen from the start, if you're not sequenced (separated) from the start, trying to separate during the 2nd half of the swing is nearly impossible.

This wonderful lesson shows why certain things I learned were positive steps forward, like trying to keep a triangular arm and chest structure. However, this lesson shows how this practice can improve more by letting that arm structure soften and lag behind the rotating rib structure. I followed this technique this weekend and I was amazed the feeling I had as I allowed the club to float, it was a feeling I never had before, I cant even put into words, however the results where very good! I had 4 brides and shot 73. I did lose it on the last few holes, I just put that under I am still learning the move. I did find myself sliding forward rather than turning, which caused me to come over-the-top. I have to be patient and complete the move before forcing my swing.

This is crazy. Back when I used to break par pretty consistently I would do a lateral shift (early load) move that was "trained out of me" because I was told I was swaying. Despite shooting great scores I acquiesced and now hardly sniff par let alone below par. I have had to rely on my short game and only hope my full showed up that morning. This really resonates with my natural instincts and now I'm having to unlearn my current swing to get back to my old swing. Not complaining, just grateful for you guys reinforcing what I stumbled on years ago. Great content gents!
@ptogawa
@ptogawa 5 месяцев назад
I got caught up in all my excitement I forgot to ask my question! How do you keep the lateral shift/load phase from being a sway? Old school teaching was if the hips went over the vertical line established by your feet. Is the key returning back to center in the proper sequence of movement (chest rotation/hip stabilizer drop)?
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 5 месяцев назад
I think it’s still very important to keep the legs underneath you. A lot of this is accomplished by “bracing” or “braking” with the legs as the ribs sway into that space. Upper body laterals instead of lower body laterals. Hopefully that helps!
@ptogawa
@ptogawa 5 месяцев назад
@elitegolfschools Absolutely makes sense! Thank you! I've already seen distance and accuracy gains at the range and need to bring to the course to unlearn years of the "classic" style. The distinction between upper and lower is key. 🤙

Great videos and I especially appreciate the patience and detail you use in your teaching. I have seen 10 videos and I have questions about two things that I haven't seen an explanation. One is the role of the trail elbow from transition to impact. On most of your rehearsal swings, it is clear that the trail elbow must be even with and not behind the hands. Another question is the booty drop. Does it matter if the drop is a true squat or you just stick it out behind? Thanks for awesome content.

Hi guys, This is all really great content. Some of the best on the net. One thing that will help you to do is to lose or translate the jargon more. You demonstrate the “jargon” words like abduction, but most people tune out because they aren’t familiar and/or trying to learn a new language. As the expertise in teaching grows the explanations will simplify. You will still be able to geek out with those who want it, but for 90% it inhibits learning. This is not a criticism, rather a comment from someone who teaches body movements to the public. The real skill is to be able to keep it as simple as possible without losing truth. Hopefully that is helpful. I’ve learned a bunch from you all already. Alan

Appreciate that for sure my man! We use anatomical and try to describe the verbiage because it correlated to the exact movement. Then and only then can we translate that to a feel! I believe we will continue to use anatomical and ‘feel’ based language to help people know the exact movements we prefer! Truly appreciate your kind words!! ❤️❤️

Thanks for the great content guys. The feeling I have used with some success , is that I have a baby in my arms with its head resting on my left arm/chest and I am passing the baby to someone standing to my right as I rotate in the backswing. This ensures that you don’t squeeze your left arm into the left chest until after you have passed the baby safely to the person on your right hand side, you are then free to move into the transition stage where the left chest moves into the left arm. Do you think this idea would be correct? Thanks.

Would have to see that one in action to understand what you’re talking about. If it feels good, go for it!

I'm 78, only 5'7" and overweight (194#). but still fairly athletic for my age. I find it very difficult to make a full swing and pivot. But I watch this vid and start thinking that I can do a good shorter swing (but certainly not like TJ) and load/unload at the right time. So then I go out and find that my backswing is so short that I have no time to transition like TJ, and wind up trying to square the clubface with the hand flip. Is there any hope?

Oh yes there is! And always keep in mind that there are varying levels of this movement for each individual in order to feel right 🙏

You guys are great. Just found you recently and have been crushing your videos and increasing my understanding of the golf swing tremendously. One thing though, please fix your mic or your mixer. I'm a musician and we use wireless mics all the time. You have your gain way too high and it's making your voice sound terrible. Just some friendly advice. Thanks fellas!

Yessir! Final phase of the load. Arms are still going up back and away while dropping… then rip ❤️

What trigger the unload?Push off from the left foot? At what point to unload p5.5?
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 11 месяцев назад
Not a lot of pushing off the left foot happening, and I would say as a general rule the unload feels great around p5.5 yes

Very interesting! I think a lot of golfers understand the sequencing, but they don't understand the "feelings" necessary to efficiently get and keep it flowing. Like me. 🙂 I look forward to playing around with some of these ideas, to see if they help me.

How come the lower body was left off sequencing? I would think them lower body plays a big part in sequencing.
@elitegolfschools
@elitegolfschools 11 месяцев назад
Lower body definitely has its role, but we see it as more of a passive mover rather than an active mover. Upper spiral pulls the lower 💪🏼

I was wondering the same thing. I tend to feel that it's my left foot that starts the backswing (pushing into my right leg which then holds back, and the upper body and arms just follow upwards). When I don't have a golf club in my hands, I find it easier to feel ribs and shoulders starting the movement. It's like holding the club blocks the upper body a bit, and makes it more rigid, while the legs can remain free to kick-start it all. But I'm working on it... 😎

It seems your explanation of the load phase involves swaying your body’s center of the ball and the set low point of your club at address. I am currently taking lessons and I being told not to sway off the center point while in your backswing because you are introducing a timing mechanism and a variable into the swing at impact. Am I misunderstanding this? My lesson is really focused on eliminating variables on the golf swing to maintain a consistent swing.

Great question! I would definitely suggest consulting with your coach. Definitely don’t want to implement something that is going to be counter to your work. We are coaching a system through our channels and looking to help players better filter information and movement 🙏

Can you just start spiraling with no lateral movement for first move and still get the proper sequencing throughout the swing?... most people if they make any lateral movement off the ball they never get back causing their low point to never be correct.
@tonybarber420
@tonybarber420 11 месяцев назад
Cause even just spiraling off the ball youre still leading your arms

The feel is for the pelvis to swivel target side as the ribs move laterally. This creates a “centered” look. Opposite moves 👍

ru-vid.comn6Thsb9oPtI?si=XFD_5PR29luEJ9II If we compare the short video of Riley saying turn no arms. And then view TJ winding. TJ almost has a lateral movement with no turns. So I’m quite confused.
