Mine too, but you're wrong...Cole had honor until his oath was used against him and he realized honor was subjective....He served the queen faithfully that gave him some sort of redemption even though it was little....spoiled princess took a man who came from nothing and used him as her toy...Not thinking about consequences for him, he would've been castrated and tortured all because she wanted a piece of ass....the books even more conplexed

Honor was subjective...Jaime killed one man to save a realm and gets criticized, black fish only killed enemies ....I wish they would've had a better ending for Jaime but by far one of the best arcs of the show....I liked him from the beginning.....the only one that had the balls and skills to take on ned stark

The look on Harold and high towers face when princess r asks for a knight with combat experience ....they already knew he was going to be an issue.... they slayed on the first season

@@justone807 Rhae wanted a knight with combat experience for better protection for her father and herself. She is wise beyond her years.

You right and maybe in some ways he was more of a father to Rhaenyra, now I'm not saying Viserys was a bad dad, well at least not to Rhaenyra, but maybe Westerling was a father to her in ways he wasn't. I mean you can't guard someone since they were a baby and not become a parent figure in there life, and we can see that the two get along really well. Also I have not doubt that if a fight broke out in the small council chamber between Westerling and Cole, Cole would be dead in seconds.

It makes sense because he and Lord Beesbury were among the old guard, so to speak, having served in their respective posts since the later years of King Jahaerys and for the full tenure of Viserys' reign. Even if the Kingsguard are supposed to be devoid of politics, Ser Harrold still witnessed the cruel and brutal murder of a long-term colleague and that would set anyone off.

@@concept5631 Even if he is a Knight, Cole still killed a Noble and didn't even get punished for it, not in the slightest.

He was on OG, served for decades. Imagine seeing your own kingsguard who you command killing any noble, let alone someone he has known for decades, and who served under 2 kings and it going unpunished while the queen and the hand are in the presence. He stood his ground on loyalty and honor. He also sort of raised Rhaenyra because before being a commander he was her sworn protector, so for Otto to order him to go kill her while he believes they are usurping the throne and killing noblemen unpunished is beyond wild lol.

He's more honorable than selmy. Selmy should've followed the orders to kill the princess

Selmy served Joffrey's court 170 years later from the events of this show, and then later on went to serve Queen Danerys in Essos.

Harrold Westerling actually died of old age in the middle of Viserys's reign, two years before the wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor.

Book wise, this is the last we see of Ser Harold Westerling

If he wanted to support Rhaenyra he would have arrived there before Ser Errak. I don’t think he went to her. Like how Ser Barristan didn’t go to either of the Baratheon brothers, as many suspected he would. As to what is he doing I have no idea, but we’ll find out very soon.

I think he will return at the end of season 4

@@SapphireSolstice67he actually died during during viserys reign in the books in the show they showed like this so we could be 100% sure that he won’t be coming back to another episode it’s one of the many characters who will be killed off the screen without our knowledge

Ser Jorah sold people into slavery to support the expensive tastes of his wife and got banished for it. Not saying Jorah didn't do some good things and mean to make up for his deeds.. but he's not unimpeachable. Ser Herold and Ser Barristan are.

Jorah is dishonorable stop making him some kind of honorable knight he sale slave thats why he run away and abandoned his family

I think the difference is context. The context here is honoring the will of the King. A good and peaceful king. The valareon dude directly disobeyed the king in his face, and the old guy was honoring the good dead king's wishes.

@@3darkdescents537 Viserys is not a good king lmao. All of Viserys actions were short sighted, biased and destructive. He is the man most responsible for the Dance. He was a weak king who was like Nero when Rome burned. You think he's a good king because he supported the sports team that you support. In Criston's mind he was honouring his king's wish.

I really doubt that. His character dies long before this point in the *book, so I don't see why they would bring him into the conflict just to kill him off before he can even find his own place in it. If I had to bet, I'd wager he'll come into a similar role for Rhaenyra as Barristan did for Daenerys.

@@damiandelpire8167 I'm wondering if Rhaenrya asks Ser Harrold to protect her two sons? She trusts him and he knows they are the true heirs to the throne. I also believe that her death will change. Someone (perhaps Ser Harold) will kill her before Aegon's dragon breathes fire. Perhaps with a bow. So many different scenarios but it's significant that his character is still alive.

He probably figured trying to do anything in this particular moment would’ve put him at a severe disadvantage. I imagine that he would’ve been in position to prevent a lot of this if even half of the council was against it, but in his defense: He just found out that 85 percent of the King’s council and one of his Kingsguard are in on an attempted coup of the heir to the Throne. And his best bet at that point was to quit on his own (which no one could guarantee that Cole would’ve been able to win a fight against him) and find his way back to Rhaenyra so that he could help her return to the throne as a member of her Queensguard. He’s of more use to Rhaenyra’s side alive and protecting her rather than likely dying at the hands of the Greens trying to take them all on at once.

in the books, hes rarely even mentioned and he died prior to the civil war so idk if the show is going to do anything with him but in the books hes dead at this part of the story

Bookwise, his character actually died way before the Dance I believe so this is literally an expansion/original thing going with this show version. As for the show, the character himself is clear he isn't taking sides. He realized just how ugly this inevitable war between family will become and made it clear he wants no part in it. He quits, says whoever wins can call him back if they wish, and leaves. He definitely cares for Rhaenyra but he ain't gonna spill any of Viserys's family blood (Viserys wasn't great on easing the tensions within his family but he was clear in his last moments he certainly doesn't want them to be at each other's throats) so...Kudos for him to be surprisingly neutral and meant it.

I think there’s a chance that he returns in some capacity but after thinking about it I honestly think it also works if he never shows up again. His role serves to provide an example of how a true knight would act in a civil war this ugly. And the panning over to Cole as he leaves is to demonstrate how far the kingsguard has already fallen and how much farther it’s about to fall. I won’t argue against more Graham McTavish but if episode 9 is the last we ever see of him, it’s a good role and it serves its purpose.
