ISTARI, THAT PART, EXACTLY! Serena's overflow of errors due to nerves is literally why she couldn't even win one set. I think a lot of critics of Serena in this thread are tennis novices, young, and haven't studied Serena's career in pro tennis, or taken the time out to watch YT videos of all of her matches, from the start of her career up to now. Knowledge supersedes opinions. Do your research, people. Seek and ye shall find! Serena failed today due to nerves, lack of confidence, and a multitude of errors brought on by those nerves. Just closely watch all of her "after giving birth to her daughter" semi & final slam matches and the matches that got her to those semis and finals. Hopefully you'll notice Serena's show of out of the blue, weird nerves, which causes a confused shift in play and brings on a multitude of errors on her part; even throws her spectacular serve off. Go back and watch how superbly Serena served during her match against Halep & Sabalenka. Even tonight in the 1st set, her serve started off on-point; until out of the blue, boom!, Her confidence shifted, she got off balance, and started playing like her body was there but her mind wasn't anymore. It's just odd that this only happens to her when she makes it to a slam semi or slam final, after birthing her daughter. If you've followed Serena's pro tennis career since she first started, you'd know what I'm talking about. It's all oddly mental with Serena.
@@riannatripp6594 Precisely! Straight facts! Thank you for speaking truth. Serena's still the GOAT, no matter if she wins or loses. Her history is set in stone forevermore. God bless her!
She beat #2 and lost to the best in the game in the SEMIFINALS at 39. Why are reporters trying to make it seem like she did so awful that she is quitting? She was great this tournament. She’s actually improved from last year. She’s going up in the rankings.
Because tha't ehat media does. She left them to play her like that... Is like everyone including herself forgot the amount of grandslams she have... As if she is trying to win her first one... She IS TRYING TO BEAT THE WORLD RECORD. ffs...
Right? And holding your hand on your heart for 2 seconds implies retirement now. At least they treat Roger the same way. They are assuming assholes that lack major creativity.
@@bachatamusica what was disgusting about what this person said? I agree with him/her, the question with that statement is exactly what made her get tearful.
OSAKA surely did. She out-Serena'd Serena. Serena could have saved herself some heartache, and played tennis' elder stateswoman and said, "Naomi played too good today. I couldn't find my game/rhythm/etc and made too many errors". I love Serena - and to, me she is the Goat - but giving a little credit to the opponent would have taken the glare of herself a bit and given her some emotional space (much needed, apparently).
@@Hammerton32 It's not in her to think that way, magnanimously. She is a selfish, narcissist, made a great tennis player by her father but also her father ruined her personality, always resorting to the negative. Venus is far more of the stateman and took the brunt of the challenges early on. Spoiled Serena had different treatment early on by Richard and it has stuck with her. Now the challenges are much greater and she is seeing that she cannot dominate any more. The next few years will be very hard on her if she chooses to keep playing. The struggle to get 24 may get ugly, pathetic, and pity-filled. She has a wonderful daughter. She should appreciate what she has and let the ghost of 24 go. The only hope to get 24 is at the US Open played in New York. New York is full of mafia gamblers and they could fix the match for her if the odds are so high that they make a fortune if she wins. They have fixed it before, for Andy Roddick and for Sloan Stephens. It would not be a surprise if they fixed it so that Serena got an easy draw with some walkovers and then a final against some inexperienced 20 year old player who could not handle her nerves. It could be the mob is already working on it right now.
@@Hammerton32 clearly you didn’t watch the same match as everyone else. Osaka didn’t do shit. Serena literally handed this match to her on a silver platter. We don’t give credit to people who don’t do shit.
Honestly, I think its normal and ok for her to be emotional. She’s been at the top of this game for so long. And it’s not like she’s “stepping down”, she’s still active in the sport. And frankly, still young in general. But her life has evolved and so has she. When everyone around you is almost begging for you to hang up the jersey so they can get their headline story, instead of allowing you to come to terms with the inevitable change life will bring to your performance, it may present a conflict. I think what we’re seeing is a athletic giant coping with the reality that their full prowess is now rivaled. And when you’re a professional athlete, it’s just “sportsmanship”, it’s your identity.
Yeah. People who reduce Serena to being a “bad loser” or a “drama queen” just have no idea at all. They just don’t get it, and they look like clowns for the comments I’ve seen. She’s not some recreational club player doing this as a hobby. It is her identity and legacy.
I think that farewell question really touched her. Maybe she's realizing the changing of the guards with younger players like naomi, bb, iga. She already had so much success with her long career she needs to play without putting too much pressure to herself.
@@tanzil88 iga has genuine potential, its her mental strength thats in question but her FH is wicked and and has alot of variety, is also very athletic
I've always thought that they should let players mourn their loss and let them decide whether want to talk or not. These conferences soon after losing is torture especially when you're already beating up on yourself.
I disagree. This is part of their job and they are 1. used to it and 2. paied very well for it. Questions need to be appropriate of course and you don't have to answer everything!
@@YesSirPhil Imagine losing in 2 straight sets. You've worked hard to recover and everything. Imagine losing. Would you want the press asking you questions? Hell no. It's painful and only serves to rub salt in the wound.
2:49 Triggered by the word, "farewell". 3:05 Continuing to struggle with her inner emotions. Pretends she needs a sip of water. 3:19 Tries desperately to hold it together internally. It's getting harder to mask the emotional damage. 3:25 The inevitable. Still the GOAT regardless.
@RICARDO why should she pack it in?she is still getting to the semi and finals. There can only be one winner. What about the players that never make it pass the 3rd round should they pack it in?
@RICARDO So should 99% of tour retire that hasn’t won a title in the last 11 tournaments? BTW Serena has made the SF in 6 of those tournaments which is by far more consistent than any other player on tour. And it’s been her nerves more than her physical ability that has let her down. But we get it we know some of you want her to retire because you’ve been wishing to see her go away for a while
@RICARDO so what about the players that are younger then Serena that will never win a grandslam should they pack it in. You can never predict what will happen in the rounds any one of the top players can be knocked out. Serens is getting to the finals and semi so why should she hang-up her racket. There's plays on the tour that can beat Osaka.
Osaka is a tough opponent for Williams. One of the few matchups where Williams can not overpower her opponent which means, to win, she needs to play smart, focused and disciplined. She couldn't do that today.
I think Serena WIlliams should be proud about herself in terms of how she reached to this stage of her tennis career. At her age, players do not play like her. She still has fire in her. Amazing spirit.
Wish she could hear these words, for many years now ...she has nothing to prove....24 or no 24 she doesnt have anything to prove to WTA and y'all sorry haters.
I think Serena is still capable of one more grand slam win (just barely); but with a relatively new family, and young child, the laser like focus she needs to dominate her field is not possible. She won't win another slam.
I agree with you. The fact that she got emotional indicates it means a lot to her. She is indisputably the greatest so she has nothing to be ashamed of. She's going to have to handle the disappointment but that too will go.

Serena made so many errors because Naomi hit the ball really harder than her previous opponents. The faster the ball is, the more mistakes that Serena made. She did not lose herself today, Naomi is just too tough.
Not true at all. she played against Aryna Sabalenka the other day, while Sabalenka has really strong hits, she handle it very well. i think the emotions got her today and for some reason couldn't handle the pressure
Don't agree Serena is just as Strong she can handle it, you could clearly see she just made mistakes that she hasn't been making in the QF or 4th round, She didn't play as well today and Naomi did.
@@saharnahahisi155 Exactly! In fact, Sabalenka hits harder than Osaka. Halep is also a strong player who gets a lot of balls back. Since giving birth to her adorable daughter, Serena weirdly gets nervous and off balance in slam semis and finals, interestingly enough. Her confidence and high self-esteem aren't what they used to be.
@@saharnahahisi155 yeah but sabalenka is way more predictable than osaka in shotmaking she is just bashing the ball unlike osaka who constracts the point very cleverly . And guys just face it that osaka is a really good player and stop blaming serena nerves for losing to her. When are u gonna stop blaming the nerves? They have played many times and its obvious that osaka has the game to beat her
That’s why I hate when the media just talks to athletes right after a emotional and competitive game. Give them 10-15 minutes of time for themselves then talk to the press.
Just watched Naomi's post match on-court interview: so gracious & complimentary to Serena - such a shame that she could not even utter a word of praise for Naomi in this interview here. Says so much about her I'm afraid...
They asked Serena about her side of the match so it's not so weird she talked about her game. She's praised Osaka on many occasions before this match. And it's not like Serena's said something that isn't true. She just didn't play well at all.
C 'mon now. Naomi played some great tennis and you re giving her no credit. The errors weren t the problem, nor could you have been 5-0 above. She played agresive and it s her time to shine .
Sorry Mara, Naomi did play great, but if you watched the match Serena was in a position to win each of the first 5 games which is why in her mind she was thinking she could be up 5-0. In matches against top players she normally does not beat herself like she did in the first set. As she said, it wasn't like she was missing difficult shots. She was missing make-able balls. Naomi truly played at a supreme level and did now allow Serena to get back in the match in the 2nd Set.
It was definitely a tough loss. I was watching Osaka thinking , " wow I remember when Serena played this fearless!'" Even watching Sabalenka I was just in awe of these girls playing their idols and being so fearless , just as Serena was when she played her Idol Monica. Tennis is crazy , the best form of flattery is to defeat the person who molded you! Its so hard to watch Serena these days, you can just see weight of history on her shoulders! We got to see nice glimpse of the of greatness this tournament though and I will never count her out!
Naomi has a equally powerful first serve around 118m/h and also a high kick second serve which is hard to attack. In that sense yes thee are similarities. But Naomi’s ground strokes are more precise and her shot making is less predictable, while Serena ground strokes occasionally can be broken down, she has more power and defend better. Serena moves better too. Completely different personality On court I would say. Naomi is very focused, less emotional, more controlled. More polite. She humble. Serena, well, not so much.
@@Boymanjusri Their game is very similar. Naomi is one that is not over powered by Serena's serve and ground strokes Naomi's game looks like what Serena's did( in my opinion) 15 years ago
@@Boymanjusri Serena is brash, and Naomi, a totally different personality type raised in very different circumstances, idolized her growing up. Whatever Serena's shortcomings, it took a personality like hers to endure coming from where she did to achieve what she achieved. On their ground games, Naomi's flat, short backswing groundstrokes and taking the ball on the rise reminds me of my all time favorite (or now co favorite Naomi) and fittingly, Serena's idol, Monica Seles. Pre-stabbing Monica and to some extent post-stabbing Monica was also a cool customer like Naomi at her best, and like Serena when she goes serene. Great ladies all, in different ways. Tennis has had some remarkable champions since I started following it in 1990(!) at age 10!
The only thing I can say is, Serena, I love you so dearly. Thank you for inspiring the likes of Naomi. No matter what, you are and will be the face of women's tennis for a very, very long time. Serena is just very passionate about the sport. Regardless of whether she retires or not, she and Venus will always be remembered for their positive impact and contributions towards women’s tennis.
she just wants photo op where she can hold her girl in one hand and a slam in another hand... and give speech about Mother's power....but sht Noami Osaka's not allowing her...😭😭😭😂
Like the Chinese proverb states, "You can slay a dragon, but it's Spirit lives on"... You have nothing to be ashamed about. Thank you for inspiring me throughout your career. You helped me get through international school in another country when I wanted to quit. ❤️
She still has some more chances for that next Slam. Not as dominant as before but she is still making Slam finals routinely; just needs that extra bit to win that last match.
Theophilus K, so true. Osaka's true character and shrewd scheme is finally surfacing. She's no longer the "um" girl who bows her head and cries in press conferences. Why do you guys think she and her father hired Sasha as her coach? Didn't she win her 1st slam under his tutelage? Shortly thereafter, she fired him and never gave an explanation when questioned. Sasha also has remained tight-lipped to this day. Her master plan is falling right in place. However, reaping what we sow is still a reality, and her motives for imitating, emulating, and obsessing over Serena are not pure.
@@mcpheejesus5945 , lol what's wrong with emulating a greatness? . from musicians, to artists, to science/technology, combat sports, film making, writing, politics .... that's a pretty typical thing to do not just in sports but in many other professions/disciplines. its evolution. its nature. human nature. very odd, dishonest and ignorant take on osaka's "true character" and not being "pure."
Y’all are so critical on Serena for what??? It was a 3min interview, and it is about her... I swear y’all don’t give this much energy into critiquing any other tennis player.
@Beatrice Mwenso Watch either of the Ronda Rousey videos of her losing (and even the one she won against Tate) and read the overwhelming comments on people calling out her lack of sportsmanship. Tom Brady too, when he loses big games, walks off the field before handshakes and people berate him in the comment section. Calling out poor sportsmanship doesn't mean racism or sexism. In a 3 and a half minute video, she couldn't once say credit goes to the better player? She has to say she lost because of her own errors? That's a sh*tty thing to say.
I say this as someone who always roots against Serena: she performed incredibly in this tournament. To reach the semis, to beat the players she beat to get there, at 39 years old, is an accomplishment the likes of which we won't see for a long time. She's got no reason to say farewell. Thousands of professional tennis players go their whole career trying for a result like this.
Totally agree! There is an adage in tennis and it goes something like this: you only play as well as your opponent lets you play. I think this is what happened today. Naomi didn't allow Serena to play well at all.
If you wanna wake Serena bring sharapova she’ll roar like a wild cat in the court, she is just throwing people off she knows what she’s doing .fake crying ohh am done and storms out, what a show.of course she can’t unleash hell on Naomi her baby sister ?We all know it. She adores Naomi.
Unforced errors are a major factor in losing matches probably the best indicator. All it took was one game in each set for Serena to lose serve. With Naomi she doesn't have the luxury because she's having trouble battling back. Also I notice Serena's timing is off on the transition game; she's leaving her opponent too much time to execute.
@@zanahorias07 you’re acting like unforced errors are why she lost. Just look at the match stats. 21-24 unforced errors. Serena only did 3 more unforced and she lost the match in straight sets. She clearly was outplayed.
Were we watching the same match? Osaka didn’t overpower Serena. Naomi didn’t even play well, at all. Serena literally littered up the stats sheet and Osaka was just there.
Well, Serena has proven she can beat Osaka, as seen in their Toronto 2019 meeting, where she served well and exposed Naomi's backhand stretching her out with angles, which she wasn't able to do today, credit to Osaka she played very well..
Joshu I agree. If you watch Naomi's stance she was literally ready for Serena's returns then redirecting and hitting them down the line. She has Serena's playbook. She had Sasha as a hitting partner on top of that, so what do you expect? She has literally copied Serena. Look at their last exhibition game, after they played first round and Serena won, Naomi copied Serena at the Melbourne games and started hitting drop shots the same way Serena did in the exhibition game. It was so creepy.
@@tennistopshots6346 Right! As well, Serena used those angles beautifully against her opponents prior to Osaka. Serena also beat Osaka just a few days ago in an AO warmup exhibition. Although that's not considered anything major, it's still a win against Osaka for Serena.
@@nhlder1027 Thank you! Bulls-eye! Finally, someone is picking up on exactly what I've been conveying and commenting on. Folks need to really wake up and pay close attention to Osaka and her deliberate quest. It's completely and shrewdly centered around and deeply rooted in Serena "The GOAT" Williams. I even used the word "creepy" to describe it myself. Can you imagine how Serena feels, now that she's aware of what's really going on right before her very eyes? Hence, this is exactly why she becomes all tight and nervous every time she plays against Osaka in majors. It's like a mental breakdown takes place on the part of Serena, once Osaka gets into her "Serena-twinning" groove. Osaka is morphing into the tennis phenom Serena was back in the day, and it's happening right before our eyes. Again, all a part of her and her father's master plan from the get-go. It's what I deem a magnificent obsession. Sad, but true.
Creepy? It's competitive sport, you learn what the competition does right and incorporate it into your game. Once you have your toolkit you adjust tactics to defeat the opponent at hand. If Serena doesn't do well playing against her own style or being figured out rattles her then why not use that against her. If you are going for number one then you need to figure out how to defeat the best.
When asked what was the difference today. Serena responds with errors. Why can’t she say the truth that Naomi played better and deserved the win. Why when she loses it’s her fault? Isn’t she allowed to get beaten???
I am a Serena and Osaka fans too But i absolutely believe that is true Arthu. that Serena should be more gracious in defeat. that is what i dont like about Serena. just tell the truth. Oasaka beats her and.
is it loosing to a better player or loosing to a player who is younger and more flexible? She points to errors because she is aware of the effect of age on her performance, she has played long enough to understand every position of the ball, what she's saying is i couldnt reach the ball because i'm slowing and thats hard to admit for it causes us to think of our mortality. Some people lack empathy, I think, to us this is entertainment, to the player its their entire existence!!
serena has played for longer than osaka, she knows a shit ton about the game and we have to keep in mind that she never said osaka played horribly, she just acknowledged that she herself didnt play to her full potential
Whether she retires with 23,24,24 or 100 slams to her name, she’ll still be the greatest of all time no matter what. Keep your head up high Serena and remember, your true supporters will back you in whatever route you decide to take in the future❤️
Cannot wait for her to retire, way past time. She's had too many violent abusive behaviors on court over the years, not a role model for kids that's for sure.

I definitely saw that in her eyes. Plus when she left the court. She never does that after a semifinal loss. The commentators picked up on that quickly

My humble take-- Serena's mind still wants her to be the best, to win at all cost, to be the one...the anointed one. That primal need to "fight against the odds" and everything else and come out victorious like a QUEEN 🙂, is still raging within her. That mentality is what got her 23 slams!! @@davidpouncy8471 You're underestimating Osaka. Serena's biggest rivals were: Sharapova, Venus, Hingis, Jankovic, Davenport, Kuznetzova, Radwańska. This parting farewell question was killing her. It took a few seconds for the feeling to get to her. And then she could no longer hold it in. I think she's great and I hope she finds the right time to leave the stage.
As long as she is getting into quarters, semis and finals, she has a chance. Different story if was getting knocked out in the first week consistently. When that happens, she will step down.
I wouldn’t say Naomi did it better. She just did it and it was more fluid than what Serena was doing (whatever you wanna call that) this time around. Serena is def in another position where she has to kinda prove herself again. She can win by using variety and being able to chase down shots, ACES, and coming to the net.
@@Ty0688 but naomi did it better. She played with power as serena did but she had more winners and less ue. If you actually saw the match it was completly on naomi why it ended, she was leading 4-3 with a break but she lost her serve due to a double fault. After that she didnt even think about it and broke easily serena next serve with 3 amazing winners. I mean osaka peaked exactly at the right time
I think she realizes that for the first time these matches are no longer in her hands... her movement is heavily compromised and will have to exclusively rely on shot making to carry her through matches.
While this is true, womens tennis is so unpredictable that she still has a chance to win slams. She's still making semis and finals, all she needs is a lucky draw where she avoids Osaka/Muguruza/Kvitova who can all hit her off the court.
Exactly, it was a first time in a very long time that the match wasnt in Serenas hands, the unforced errors were all caused by naomi´s presence and the fact that every ball naomi hit was a winnner or a difficult shot
I think she's the best that did it along with her sister. I think she left a mark we won't see anyone surpass for generations to come and they are great now but no one is like her. She's beautiful and powerful graceful and humble. She's a legend an icon and a mommy. I think she will do well with whatever she chooses to do after!
Serena, as disappointed as you are in that moment, you have been a strong lead for many girls and women for may years even in defeat. Thank you for all of it. 💜 ❤️
She's too good to drown in self-pity. She'll take the next couple days to grieve. Then she'll focus on the next slam. She's not going to give up, and I admire that spirit.
As much as I love and admire Serena - her game, her mental fortitude, achievements galore, what she's done for women's tennis and the sport, in general, its disappointing to see her not give credit to Osaka. 1 line, 6 words, 5 secs - "she was better than me today", it wouldn't have taken anything away from her greatness. She's an icon in herself. To play at such an incredibly high level at the age of 39 and lose to a 23 year old, Osaka, who is at her peak, in the semifinals of a slam, is amazing. She wasn't her best today, for sure, but that's majorly because Osaka overpowered her, played better in the bigger important points. Fans of the sport would have loved and admired her sportsmanship if she gave credit to Osaka but no, she left the press conference getting emotional. She is possibly the greatest, if not THE GREATEST to ever play the sport but bad sportsmanship can take so much away from who she is as a person, at the end of the day.
@@tomr6955 - So true. I laughed hard when she said I could have been 5-0 up.. in her dreams. If not for Naomi struggling badly with her serving this would have been even worse trashing! Whom is she kidding here...
@@tomr6955 well, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because Naomi Osaka always speaks so highly of her. Naomi is very honest with her feelings, regard and respect for Serena. The very least she could have done in this press conference was acknowledge the truth, the facts of the match that Naomi raised her game to a whole different level when needed in the important points of the match. But I do understand why you say that. Maria Sharapova's autobiography detailed Serena's attitude towards her after she lost the 2004 Wimbledon final. Similar opinion was echoed by Sloane Stephens after she defeated Serena. I honestly want to see the best in Serena but this press conference as much as is and should be about her, 5 secs about Naomi would have made us appreciate her as an athlete and may have even changed your perspective about her but sadly, she disappoints.
Uh, she got out hit and outplayed. Wasn't her errors that made her lose. (Serena had 24 unforced errors, Osaka 21) Osaka's shots had more to do with it. Gotta give your opponent credit. Kudos though. Its hard hanging with these young kids.
It was her errors that made her lose. Osaka might have hit 21, but she also hit 20 winners. That’s the difference. Serena hit loads of errors but no winners to counteract them. Errors are fine when you are going for big shots like Naomi was. Then add the serve into that, the greatest serve in the history of women’s tennis and Serena had only 46% first serves in. And barely any aces. Serena used to bang down 15 aces in a match like this, go watch her in 2015 Australian open for example. It gives her the confidence to flow in the rest of her game. Sure naomis first serve % was low as well but serena wasn’t punishing the second, and Naomi came up with big 1st serves in the important games, serenas 1st serves were at insignificant times and she couldn’t find one when down break points like Naomi could.
@@gavinfindlay3263 it wasn't just her errors mate. Osaka pressured her to make those errors. obviously Serena contributed to it and would have had more chances if she was younger, but facts are Osaka is simply a better player nowadays. kudos to Serena for this AO tho, the previous matches were quite impressive from her, loved how she improved her movement. but Osaka just outplayed her.
@@charliez077 not in that first set, Naomi really didn’t do that much. Look I’m not trying to overshadow Naomi, but she didn’t even have to play that well today, not like she did against muguruza. She was very good in the second set other than the game she got broken, but in that first set she was well below par and Serena didn’t do anything to challenge her, she fell apart from 2 all. I don’t get how people can watch serenas performance against Halep and against sabalenka (who hits harder than Naomi btw) and not think serena was well below par today. Serena in the first set: 0 winners, 10 UFE off the forehand 1 winner, 6 UFE off the backhand Those are shocking stats, and you just won’t convince me that that was all because of Naomi because it plainly wasn’t. This could have been a great match if serena played well, and maybe Naomi would have had too much for her in the end, but serena didn’t turn up and that’s got to be so disappointing for her.
I just wish she would give Naomi Osaka some credit for the win, even a simple 'she was better than me today'. Naomi loves her and kept saying it was such an honour to play her, could she not acknowledge her good play? Feels like the second time Serena has lost to Naomi and made it all about her instead of her opponent. I appreciate she is so self-driven and focused on her game but is it so hard to give your opponent some credit? Naomi was so solid today and some of her groundstrokes particularly in the game she broke straight back were incredible.
my sentiments exactly! 1 line. 5 secs. "she was better than me today'. but no, this is disappointing to say the least. As much as I love Serena and what she's done for Tennis, she has my respect and admiration. She is literally one of the greatests ever, if not the greatest, to play the sport. She's made so many amazing comebacks time and again over the last 20 years. Losing in the semifinals of a slam at 39, to a 23 year old, Osaka, who is at her peak is incredible in itself. Kudos! But the least, Serena could have done is appreciate Osaka's game for 5 secs. It certainly wouldn't have taken anything away from her greatness yet she left the press conference in tears.
@@richardgillard8691 you will notice Serena fans here agreed with me. She's an incredible champion but she is so used to winning (or only losing when she plays terribly) she doesn't appreciate that she can lose to players like Osaka because they outplay her. Look at Nadal's press conference against Tsitipas - Nadal made some easy mistakes but he gave all the credit to Tsitipas.
@@yl8917 I do wonder if its the professional culture Serena has been in - her generation of players like Sharapova were often quite cold and distanced towards each other. Whereas this newer generation of younger players can be so friendly off the court (like Osaka and Swiatek) but go hard on the court. Would love to see women being included in the laver Cup, it would be so much fun to see them play together just as it has been with the men!
Yet she can’t win on grass or clay yet. She’s a hard court specialist. Serena The GOAT can win on every service. In fact she had a title on every surface by the time she was 21 years old
Yes, when reality hits home and you realize that you may not make it to #24 and that time has passed after failing 4 finals and your most improved version didnt stack up well against a strong younger player is a tough pill to swallow.
Seems like the “farewell” speculation triggered her, almost as if it almost brought the feeling to reality when people caught on to her gesture as she was leaving.
@@ng5279 Says a lot about the state of the women on the tour that a nearly 40 year old, out of shape player can keep making to slam finals & semis-she is in their heads.
The difference was that Naomi played really good, very fast...made Serena do so many mistakes!! It's not only about you Serena, you have to give credit to your opponent!!
the questions were geared for her unforced error though? and if you watched the match, serena lost more pivotal points to unforced errors rather than winners.
Great Job Serena! The emotions make sense when you have played a sport for so long professionally. It's the knowing that you might be closer to retiring, knowing the end of that part of your life could be near is what hits you especially when you have been so successful.
We love you girl and we always gonna love you no matter what nobody say about you or your family we love you you have done so much for the love of the game ❤♥💙💕💗💖❤
Win or Lose, 23 Grand Slams sets Serena apart from these young players. As Dominic Thiem said "I'm not a machine" bad days are part of a tennis player's journey.
@@jimjames7979 Clearly you and others like you aren't so pristine yourselves. Osaka needs to win 2 GS yearly for the next decade JUST to tie Serena. Get a LIFE!
JP Gonzales, and all of Serena's other slam titles, gold medals, record-breaking stats, longevity, etc. The others will never equal or surpass what Serena's accomplished. As well, you won't find them still playing pro tennis at 39 yrs. of age either, still making it to semi-finals and finals of slams like Serena. The others all have youth on their side, yet count the number of slam titles they each have and how they lack dominance in the sport, such as Serena. Wasn't Sofia Kenin last year's AO champ? And Ash Barty, where is she in slam titles? Kerber had a slight run but fell off the radar pretty quickly. Sharapova doesn't even count because of her doping scandal, and some of her slam titles should've been discounted. And how about Osaka turned pro in 2013, is 23 yrs. old, and only has 3 slam titles to her name; yet folks are ranting and raving over her. This is what happens when people are ignorant of the facts and know little to nothing about tennis. Congrats, Osaka and great run, Serena "The GOAT" Williams!
