@@masterchief9742 There's a cannon, a mini nuke, rocket launcher, grenade launcher, dual pistols, minigun etc etc. Most FPS games just have generic smg, generic shotgun, generic sniper

Or maybe a crystalized black hole or a mini nuke - boooring. Or maybe a combine that you can kill thousands of monsters, and even though shoot them from there and reload with your only hand, or a mech that was build by a pope and shoots mini rockets like a minigun. @@KuhoinX Lol, no. Serious Sam 4 is extremely fun. Before believing in IGN videos, look at the damage he takes with each attack. The guy is playing in the in one of the lowest difficulties where you don't really need to play the game, but just press the fire button to proceed through the levels. I'm playing on "Serious" difficulty and the game is fantastic. It captures the essence of the old Serious Sam very well, and puts even more things on top. Each battle is carefully designed to generate different and challenging situations. It is as frantic as the new Dooms, but with the advantage that each battle is completely different (unlike Doom 2016 which is a one-note game). The real problem with SS4 is the lack of optimization. The gameplay is fantastic, but obviously you need to at least know how to play games to enjoy it, which a guy who says he died dozens of times in normal difficulty clearly does not know.
I mean it's still same tier. It'll get played for a month maybe then fall off. Well see it in barfing bins and steam sales alongside games nobody wants right around the time cyber punk launches. It's a back log game. It's fodder when nothing's out
It really looks that way. I admit I wasn't too big a fan of tse but that probably has more to do with the ending. And bfe kinda lost it's way. But once again, just like Doom, they returned to the core.
@@friarruse1827 I'm sorry if I sounded hostile or anything before.... ....but, what else honestly can be done for a fast paced first person shooter? Obviously not much in terms of graphics, as Croteam is an incredibly small studio. And storytelling has never been their strongest forte.

Fardim Nazir a lot can be done, actually. I mean, take a look at Doom: it doubled-down on the fast-paced action, increased traversal, and was universally praised for it.
@@naschylobo Yeah, Doom is a great example of bringing a modern twist to the old school shooter formula. But then again , I'm willing to cut Croteam some slack as they occupy roughly the size of id Software's pantry.
@@jacoblyalls4026 no i completely agree in this case that it isnt just a matter of the reinvention aspect. not every game needs to be reinvented at all, but apparently this game doesnt even pass as a serious sam game. it didnt have to be reinvented, but it wasnt fun even for ss standards. they do make a point even if it can be reinvented, however I dont think that should be a negative. its preference. its like saying tetris mechanics should change in 10 years. i said my comment because of spongebob game. the guy said it should be reinvented and he said the jokes werent funny. i am beginning to wonder as somoen who finished the game for the first time this year, if that reviewer was even a spongbob fan.
They said that Black Meza, the Half life 1 remake needed to reinvent itself like if the original wasn't already better than every single cod game they give an 8.5 or 9.0

As someone who loves Serious Sam, and been playing this for a little while... I'm totally fine with it? It feels like SS, it plays like one and it finally does what I always wanted, put the triple the amount of monster hordes This games was created for the fans or people that just want to have a fun time killing things in a large radius It's not trying to be a 10/10 but it feels like a nice game where you can just turn your brain off and have fun
I was playing Serious Sam 1 recently and every criticism that's been leveled against this game is exactly how the first game plays as far as I'm concerned. Overwhelming enemy placement? Check. Having to reload from a save after you die? Absolutely. Vast levels that are also really empty except for when enemies show up? Sounds right to me. Like, to me, this sounds EXACTLY like that first Serious Sam game.

Comparing this to all the Battle Royals that keep coming out? I prefer this because it's a actual shooter instead of a game trying to capitalize on the whole Battle Royal boom that's going on. Looking in your direction Call of Duty!!!

The general music critic will find it hard to shift the perception that Death Metal - for example - is formula of relentless aggressive noise. Many critics are aware to mention caveats - such as fans of the game will perhaps love it, while it still might polarise others.
The reviewer sounds mad that he's playing a serious sam game. It doesn't need reinventing like DOOM because the formula already works for modern games. Honestly the reviewer sounds like he has 343 logic, just wants to change the core formula of a long running game franchise because....just do it?
the beauty about large battles is to get the enemy to kill themselves for you. by running around and dodging every hit, the enemy will thin themselves out for you, then you just finish them off easily. I'd say its not tedious, its a game where dodging is a skill. I'd say its like real life, real life will throw tonnes of things at you, and you gotta learn to deal with it. It definitely takes long, but fun and ironically, time is a score factor in the game, the longer you take the worse your score.
Then he complains that the only way to pass a challenge is not getting shot... in an FPS. It is the quality of video game reviewers. In fact, he says he played in Normal, but it would be interesting for someone to compare the damage he is getting in certain scenes, because it is likely that he is playing in even lower difficulties in some situations.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to reinvent itself. It’s just shows a lack of effort put in. Uncharted games are just 3rd person shooter games but it tries really hard.
I just started playing the game, and I like it so far. Lots of strafing, jumping and shooting and mindless fun. I dont know what every reviewer is talking about.
Claims serious Sam is "uninspired" and "bland" yet COD release the same game just re skinned since like 2008 and they get 8's and 9's every year. Weird how that works.
This is the first Serious Sam game I've played and it's really fun. I've always hated Doom's platforming and there's none here except much bigger maps, way more enemies and killing.
why are ppl trying to compare it to doom or say that its old gameplay? Its serious sam lol Its always going to be same thing because ppl that like serious sam (like myself) like it this way. Going from area to area shooting loads of enemies may be boring for some I understand but thats what SS is plain and simple. The more I watched the review the more I was " awesome thats exactly what I wanted".
Which is exactly why a score or an opinion shouldn't dictate what to like. I'm not a SS fan but if the description of the game sounds fun to anyone, they should try it.
Serious Sam, it was always just about the mindless fun you had with it. Not the graphics or anything else tbh. For me as a consumer, this is just what I wanted in a Serious Sam game, just shooting enemies in the face. However, for someone that doesn't know what is or why is Serious Sam, I completely understand and I know that a review is just a opinion, unlike this comment section.
To be honest I expected it but at the same time serious Sam simplicity and killing hordes of enemies is why I'd play it and love it. It's not somthing I want to be doom i want it to be serious Sam which it is except maybe to much story..dont need that..

Were you expecting anything else from a Serious Sam game? It's what the fans want. Changing it to "modernise" it will just piss people off. Simple running and gunning isn't a bad thing and the game shouldn't be marked down for it.

nah, jurnalist mode is "please dont hurt me" proper review will take into account all the difficulties, like some encounters can change and if balanced right, more satisfying to accomplish things on harder difficulties.

I can tell from the first 2 mins this guy hasn't played any of the original games, I haven't played this new title but "Sam needs to get the holy grail because why not" is obviously someone that has never touched this franchise BFE led into first encounter and then second encounter where the game ends with Sam grabbing the holy grail (serious sam 2 is still debated on whether it is canon) which I assume allows sam to come back to the original invasion to stop it
In serious sam 4 they grabbed the holy grail because it has the powers to repel the enemy invasion and save humanity (But it ends up getting destroyed by the myth and the legend, Sam Stone in order to kill a funny cow), apparently it was supposed to call on the Sirian ship
Imagine giving a $60 game that's the same throughout the game a 9.0 (pokemon Sword and Shield) but give a $40,- game a 5 because it's the same throughout the game.
My favorite memories of Serious Sam was playing in 16 player co-op lobbies with unlimited ammo. I never liked playing it solo. With 16 people and sooo many enemies it was so much fun
@@generalatom2175 They are fixing bugs. They can't do it istantly. Then, in croatia being a game developer is not a proper work, so they have even this difficulty to overcome.
I've seen other reviews by long-time fans, and honestly while I agree with a lot of the flaws they mentioned, i also think this game deserves to be treated at his standards, series standards if you may call that. I see a lot of people who compare it to the likes of DOOM Eternal, and considering that game is incredibly amazing(in my opinion), I think it shouldn't be used as an example for comparison to other shooters. Croteam are essentially indie, and lack the budget for a lot of things which a big-name developer under a big-name publisher can handle. However, to think we went from an incredible masterpiece which is The Talos Principle, to an un-traditional, messed up Serious Sam 4, is very shameful. Serious Sam 4 doesn't have enough of the series standards, which is disappointing, considering even Serious Sam 3 BFE, which is in my opinion the worst in the series, has more series standards than Serious Sam 4. Perhaps I'll change my mind when i'll play it more times, but for a first impression? Very damn underwhelming.
I dont know. Feels like devs were just wanting to give fans of this series a throwback to the older games. I think this might be a case of the game not needing to innovate in order to bring the franchise back into relevancy.
@@rinnegansr5980 yeah i saw it. i appreciate his video more, even though i like dan stapleton. this review wasnt as clear on the issues, and it more focused on him dying over and over. the game overall, seemed like it gosh rushed out for the sale. the other 3 serious sams look funner even from gameplay standpoint. i actually dont think they have to innovate. i mean, i like bulletstorm, i liked the old game marathon. some things should stay old, its more a matter of tweaking the game in this case.

Nah the problem is that it still bothered with a story and has stayed pretty much completely stagnant gameplay wise. Not to mention how much of a technical mess it is.
