Well a big reason he transitioned to ultras is because he already had melee upgrades for his banelings, if he had transitioned to hydra/lurker he would have been behind ranged attack upgrades. Those upgrades take several minutes to research. Minutes that would have let Reynor catch back up either way I think.

@@WiseSam95 regardless, as "the best player in the world" he should know that even 3-3 maxed out, ultras are the insta-lose option for zerg vs zerg. Ultras are incredibly weak and by far worse than the old battle cruiser.

Anyone going ultralisks is always so painful :( zerg generally isn't about big groupings like protoss, it's about splitting, speed, and surrounds.

If I'm not mistaken, Alphastar does not have a proper APS limit and really has a micro mega advantage that makes up for how strategically suboptimal it can be.

Serral beats top Koreans. Top Koreans beat Reynor. Reynor beats Serral. Reynor is a griefer if you think about it, it's like he doesn't want to win he just wants Serral to lose.

Thats what I was thinking too....he wasn't trying to win Blizzcon, he was trying to make a statement and destroy Reynor with his own strategy......he will curse himself for that for quite some time now when he realizes he threw away a history making achievement perhaps.

Nah that doesn't sound even a little bit like Serral. It's likely he made a bad call during the heat of the moment. When you have 2/3 upgrades for melee, going ultra might sound like a reasonable proposition even for the best. Even though history shows that ultras are a surefire way to loose. At least without a heck of a lot of vipers.

That's Asians in general, not just SKoreans. They lack the aesthetic and at times appear soulless or devoid of a personality. It's something I picked up on when in Japan and SKorea for two years at a time and in China for about 10 months. I wouldn't be so harsh on these SKorean players specifically.

Yeah had the same feeling. Reynor feels like he trained super hard to beat Serral specifically but in the finals.. oof..

@@foobarbazbaa5598 yeah Reynor simply knows serral inside and out and can play him personally really well he just cant seem to translate that skill against Koreans as well.

Probably because serral had to deal with an overwhelming taskload of constantly scouting nydus worms, defending on multiple fronts and microing his main army against that many lurkers that he simply wasn't able to use micro intense units like broods, infestors or swarmhosts on TOP of that all. And against lurkers.. all you need is to catch them while moving in a get a good engagement and you can kill them. I guess thats what serral was looking for. It's easy to critizise as a viewer from a comfy armchair. But sitting there in front of thousands of people, massive pressure and being about to lose the most important tournament of the year.. i can understand he got stuck in a certain strategy.

@@rhysjones81 there's a point when you lose too many units the enemy will take too much ground and kill any more units you make with very little chance for you to come back. Most people quit at this point because there really isn't a chance they can win

because more stuff kills less stuff so when one player kills too much stuff the other player can't make as much stuff as the first player.

He will continue to dominate. But I'm happy Reynor has solidified his position as Serral's arch nemesis ;D

@Qimodis Well sc1 is pretty big in lots of regions to be honest, don t underestimate it only because it s not famous in your country (anymore) ;)

Oh yeah totally but its common in any sports. In England you'll always get the 50 year old fat guy with an over stretched team t-shirt on, sitting in the stadium yelling at the players, thinking if only they'd let him on the field he'd win the game.

What about letting smaller units under them, like the colossus

@@SolarChris3010 then collossus wont be felt unique enough zerg was emphasissed on mass and swarm tactic with cheap unit mostly but ultra just too expensive and countered too hard

@@TheScarp21 the problem with ultras are the pathfinding and that after a certain point it just derps around the back lines instead of going the direct surround. It can also be seen in zerglings except the speed mitigates that issue quite a lot. Letting smaller units under isn't really an issue with the uniqueness of the colossus we have already seen the abberation do that albeit it's campaign/co-op only.

I dont want to be a Serral apologist, I'm sick of him winning everything. However this finals was a shitshow that happened all in one single day. It was like 12 hours of starcraft straight. We saw serral yawn and look tired at the very beginning. Looking at the face cams for whatever reason it seems serral is much more tired than raynor; I guess serral just doesn't have the best stamina. I hope next year the finals are over 2 or 3 days not on the same day.
