Setting boundaries in toxic relationships vs. healthy relationships.

It’s different! Setting rigid, unexplained, and non-negotiable boundaries is a great strategy when dealing with manipulative people or people who regularly mistreat us - but those strategies don’t usually work well in healthy, loving, and mutual relationships.
In healthy relationships, it helps to be more open. It helps to remember that this is a relationship that requires give and take, mutual care, and compromise.

That's more holistic approach while explaining boundaries. Thank you for that.

This is such a helpful distinction, thank you very much for that! I was taught by others about relationships to not explain any boundaries and it felt weird and unnatural to me...and now your distinction makes really sense

There's a difference between someone who has hurt feelings and someone who's genuinely hurt and needs help not glib responses and attitudes from someone who has always claimed to be their friend yet can't see past their nose to see their "friend" is in pain and suffering and needs real friendship instead of being blown off!

I've been saving so many of your videos for my children when they're older! Thank you for the wonderful lessons you'll teach them, directly or through my passing on this information. Your work is saving many people YEARS of suffering!

I find that the addict/alcoholic narcissistic behavior crowd just want to argue and knock you down to their level. No boundary explanations needed because they’re not listening. “You think you’re better than us??” If I had a buck for every time I tried to defend myself…. Thank you so much for your valuable advice.

Thanks, but how to distinguish one from another?

Why shouldn't you explain a boundary?
