In our first video (watch here: • Best climbing techniqu... ) we introduced you to our method of climbing.
In our second video (watch here: • DRT Mock Hunt for Larg... ) we filmed a mock hunt for you guys from start to finish so that you can get a feel for what it's like when we use this method in the woods.
In our third video (watch here: • How to Effectively Use... ) we showed you the exact technique of how to get into the tree with our method of climbing, including another knot tying demonstration.
We highly recommend watching those videos as well.
This is a very minimalist method for mobile saddle hunters. We are showing you exactly how we climb into large trees with minimal equipment, cost and effort.
This method may not be for everyone, but think of it as another tool in your arsenal. Please watch until the end as there's a lot of information on DRT climbing technique that we believe is one of the safest, quietest, least expensive ways to climb a tree for saddle hunting. I hope you all benefit from our technique. Please like and share with others.
Please remember that climbing of any kind is inherently dangerous. The DRT climbing method has been a standard in the arbor industry for 100 years. But remember It's only safe if you do it right. Ensure your knots are tied correctly and make sure you set every knot before you get off the ground. This is our method that we use in saddle hunting, but only do what makes you comfortable and do this at your own risk.
Hunters Who climb trees typically have no training. One of the reasons we made these videos was to introduce hunters to what arborists use to climb safely. Just like anything its incumbent on you to seek out training from a qualified professional , and practice to learn how to do it properly. It's no different than learning firearm safety or anything that's inherently dangerous.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments section and we'll be happy to offer any help we can.
Feel free to comment down below with your questions, We'd love to help in anyway we can.

Thanks for watching and very best of luck !

Joe, no 'naysayer' here! You and Scott - the taller guy - are doing many of us deer hunters a great service!! Even guys who would have given up on climbing like this 75 year old! I'm headed to the woods for more of that healthy, tasty venison!

I followed your technique. It really helped me. I usually would get up about 4 feet then my Blake’s hitch would begin to slip. I’m 69 yrs old n I can’t wait to get up a tree with the setup for hunting. I’ve been carrying tree stands for 26 yrs. All my gear will weigh 8 pounds!

Had a spot I setup 6 weeks ago that I didn't feel good about. I relocated to a different 🌳 with a tighter funnel that bordered a grassy meadow. I was just getting my stuff ready in this spot 5 hours ago when I heard something. I was frozen wearing camo & had my S10 in my hand. I got over a minute of video of a 3 yr old buck which had a yearling buck traveling with him. Feel confident about the age since they were both 10 yards from me looking across a CRP field where a couple of people were walking 500 yards from them. The older buck was fixated on these 2 moving objects 4 some time before exiting away from me & the couple. Really like to see this here since it isn't my prime spot which is further back, but it's nice 2 have options.

@@greggstankewicz4309 6mm accesory cord but anything even paracord will work since its not supporting your body weight , its only pulling up the blakes hitch

Could you talk about your saddle bridge and how to inspect and change it out?
@NYSaddleHunter

James I have 2 bridges one is the factory amsteel bridge the second is one I installed for DRT climbing. I inspect me knots and the bridge to make sure its perfect. Any doubt I wont climb with it. Your life depends on your bridge. Heres a video I made on my bridge ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DIz9o0ug0LA.html

I'm a complete Newb to the whole saddle hunting thing, but I'm very interested! I like the DRT method you guys use. Do you have a video showing your climbing setup from scratch? Say you were trying to teach a guy who had never climbed a day in his life, and showing me exactly what gear I need, how and where to tie knots, and how everything is used cohesively, etc... If this video doesn't exist, would you make one? Thanks!

Click on the videos link. We have about 30 videos on various topics showing how we climb DRT to saddle comparrisins, tether and knot safety , but we plan on making a video on comparing saddle hunting to tree stands and DRT climbing to , climbing sticks. We also want to make a hood breakdown for beginners and we will try to put somthing together and have it out by next week. However click on the videos link on our channel and explore it. We try to put out information thats important saddle hunters especially those climbing with the DRT or SRT method. Thanks for watching , and best of luck !

That's a cool technique. Are you concerned about friction damaging the rope at it passes over the limb or do you have some sort of edge protection on the rope?
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 4 года назад
John we only usually hunt around 20' high so we dont worry about using friction savers or anything like that

Great video. How does the Blake’s hitch compare to a Hitch Climber pulley with carabiners and prusik in a hunting scenario.
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 4 года назад
Hitch climber pulley makes it easier and theres lots of variations like 3:1, 6:1 or getting more into SRT or RAD that you could use. The way we see it is we wanted to keep it simple, and as minimalist as possible so that it takes less time to set up, less $ , and less potential for noise. We are typically only climbing around 20' so for us old school DRT with no added accessories works well eno6. However that being said the only thing that limits you climbing is the tree and your imagination so there are ways to make it easier. We plan to make some more videos showing these variations in the future Thanks for watching and Best of luck !

How long is the line that you tie the prusik with?
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 4 года назад
Prusick cord is generally 16 to 18 inches in length. We recommend you buy a 8mm closed loop or one with factory eyes sewn in. Joes came from Tether and Scott’s came from Aero Hunter

with double rope how long do the rope last?
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 3 года назад
I climb often and my rope is 3 years old , and like new still. I'd expect for me about 3-5 years if you take care of your rope especially decending slowly. What kills a rope is decending fast. The heat and friction beat up the rope

What about using a Bachmann Knot instead?
@NYSaddleHunter

If you were to climb SRT. It’s an option but not for DRT. There are several knot you can use for DRT. I like the Blake hitch because it’s easy , effective and doesn’t require additional hardware
@NYSaddleHunter
@NYSaddleHunter 4 года назад
Good alternative for use with your tree tether. I would put 5 or 6 wraps just to make sure it doesn’t slide. And always make sure you tie a stopper knot at end of your tether
