Zeroing out the TX trim did the trick! Thx so much. I was getting pretty frustrated not being able to get this beauty in the air. Just got done flying through 3 batt packs & my mind was exhausted. I usually don’t do stunts on a maiden but this P 51 is really docile, but has some punch. All “The right stuff” in this plane. I paid like 125 or so, spent a similar price for the 400mm Zero. This never gets old or boring.

That's Fantastic! I'm glad you got it worked out. Amazing little P51D and the best Micro Warbird I've flown. Tons of Fun ;-) If you haven't seen my flights using a 7x5 Prop take a look. The increase in performance makes it feel like a different plane.

You said "...3D mode is really, really smooth...", but what no one seemed to mention in any of the reviews I read or saw before buying one was that it's WAAAAY TOO SMOOTH. Even in 3D mode it's in a straight jacket and the flight controller is constantly screwing with it. All flight responses are delayed and mushy-feeling, and that's not only with the stock Tx, that's also with my Radiomaster TX16S. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the worst plane I've ever flown (or at least tied with the worst plane I've flown). The way it flies is SO disconnected from (mostly delayed and attenuated relative to) my stick inputs that it undermines all confidence and I'm constantly nervous that if I get in a little bit of a pickle, or get disoriented, or anything like that...that I won't be able to quickly and effectively "save" it and keep it from slamming into the tarmac. I don't know what XK is thinking, but this thing is a pile of crap. Now I get it...that's just my personal opinion, and other fliers will have their own opinions, and some do actually like it. But from my perspective (been flying planks since 2017), I hate it. And even from the standpoint of a beginner with limited skills and who might benefit from significant stabilization and angle limiting...it's still a poor choice (in my opinion) because the plane does such a poor job of doing what you tell it to do. A good beginner plane should be not only durable and not only stabilized and smooth (either aerodynamically or electronically, or both), but it ALSO has to be reasonably responsive and intuitive and help the new pilot develop confidence. This plane checks the first two boxes reasonably well while utterly failing the last box entirely. YMMV, but I hate it.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 6 месяцев назад
Hi Steve! Yeah, everyone is different. My P51 was actually too responsive and I had to tone down the Elevator a bit but I'm definitely not soft on the controls ;-) I have tons of fun with it though and just changing the Stock Prop to a APC Style 7x5 2-Blade Prop makes the performance much better. I love the airframe but I'm hoping to have time this year to replace the stock board and ESC so I have Stabilized, Wind Mitigation, and Full Manual Mode running a 3S LIPO. It's going to be Fun ;-)
@SteveGergetz
@SteveGergetz 6 месяцев назад
@@GroundControlRC I was thinking about doing the same thing, except I'll be doing mine on the cheap and skipping the stabilization...probably just a $10 PWM receiver, some servos, re-use the ESC and motor, and that's about it. Was thinking that would fly WAY better than the over-controlled experience the stock flight controller serves up. But that's a great idea to bump it from 2s to 3s! Do you think the stock motor and ESC will handle 3s? Also, do you have a link to that different prop you used?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 6 месяцев назад
@@SteveGergetz I've heard of some using a 3S with the stock ESC but I also heard the Stock ESC puts out the full 8.4v to the board so they must have a built-in voltage regulator on the board. I'll be replacing the ESC with one that has a 5V BEC for my 3S Setup. I think the Motor should be able to handle a 3S LIPO just fine but I'll probably use a less aggressive prop on 3S. Here is a link to the Prop I use. amzn.to/48YsQrF These are a pretty good price for a 5pk. I've posted several flight videos using this prop and I think the difference on power and speed is very noticeable in the flight video compared to the Stock Prop.

I have to agree with you. As far as the airframe, it's a beautiful plane and very well built. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. The radio that it came with is really "spongy," almost like it was programmed with a ton of unnecessary expo. And you're right, I lent it to my friend to see what he thought and he bound it to his Radiomaster, and he also said there was no noticeable change. It's just the way the flight board is programmed, I presume. At any rate, I got mine for under $100 from BangGood, so really can't complain a whole lot, but what you're saying is pretty spot on.

Had my maiden with it today…it had way too much up elevator…had to ride the stick down,I did the prop mod for the maiden…it’s great,but it’s very lazy in the turns,I’m using the stock TX…anyways,when I pushed the 3d (or is it 6d ?!) button,it would shoot straight up and go kinda crazy ?Kept having to save it with the ‘idiot’ button.So it seems a bit lame in idiot mode,but uncontrollable in the other mode…any ideas ?,cheers from the uk.Funny story,the second flight I decided to adjust the elevator with the screw on clite,I WAY overdid it,and upon launch it went dead flat,but down when not on full power,I disks a massive circle at about 5 feet but on the return leg there was a levy…it hit that dead…but was caught by bracken,and is absolutely fine ! I’m a bit scared of it now…any ideas with the 6G/3D problem ?

These micro planes are always a bit twitchy for me with the default setup. I'm glad you recovered it without any damage. I always end up having to adjust the linkages to get smoother control. I published a video on my setup and a link to a downloadable PDF with all the info. Search our Facebook Page for "xk a280 setup" and you should see the post. That should help.

Thanks very much for a very useful video. I'm a novice pilot only recently gone 'solo' from my buddy lead and I found your suggested elevator linkage adjustments for this model helpful. I have a couple of questions though and wondered if you could help. Firstly, the throttle lever on the transmitter doesn't start the motor until it's about one third of the way up, and the model doesn't respond to the normal throttle calibration method of switching on at full throttle then immediately moving it down to no throttle. So I'm not sure that I'm getting full throttle range and I'd appreciate your advice on this. Secondly, page 14 of the user manual, (such as it is!), has a completely unintelligible paragraph titled 'Remote Potentiometer Calibration' which refers to the throttle lever but I can't work out what it's supposed to be calibrating. Again, your advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 2 месяца назад
Yes, those toy transmitters do not have very good resolution on the throttle or other controls. I believe the 'Remote Potentiometer Calibration' is in reference to the Gyro Calibration. My Throttle channel was the same way but I kept performing the throttle calibration until it was better. I can't hear the beeps from the ESC so it's a matter of timing when to pull the throttle stick all the way to the bottom. I still had to move the throttle stick about 25% before the motor would engage but it was better. Make sure your throttle trim is centered. There is also a process listed in the manual for calibration of the transmitter. You might try that.

@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC Год назад
Awesome little Warbird and I just got back from another flight session with it ;-) I was looking for a way to increase the movement on my rudder as well. I don't know what the best solution would be. Extending the servo arm for more movement, modifying the linkage, or both. I think I'm going to try an extend the servo arm to start with just to see how much more movement I can get with that MOD, and if needed, see about modifying the linkage. I would like to be able to perform some nice Hammerheads with it but it needs much more rudder for that.

I haven't put a 3S LIPO in mine yet. When I do I'll probably replace the stock ESC with a 12A ESC rated for 3S and something around a 3S 500mah LIPO. I'll use an XT30 Connector on the ESC and LIPO as that's what my 2S LIPOs have and I'm currently using an adapter. When I have time to convert mine I'll list all the components I used. Should be fun ;-)

Hey brother, I’m having trouble with my xk transmitter not binding to my new p51 (same as yours). How can I get it into bind or frequency matching mode?
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 5 месяцев назад
With most of these toy transmitters you need to 1st power on the plane and then turn on the TX in order for it to bind. The frequency matching is done at the factory. At least it's supposed to be.

@@GroundControlRC Thanks GC to Major Tom(hope you caught the reference). I have a small fleet of aircraft but this one is giving me trouble , after Tx on then battery connected the servos make 1 little twitch and the light controls works. Do you know the binding process? I can't seem to find a little jumper or switch to make it respond the way the factory should have.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 5 месяцев назад
@@user-fk6om4lb6t Yes, sometimes it won't bind if the TX is turned on 1st. Power on the Plane and then power on the TX. From what I understand, all of those type of planes look for a TX to bind to when powered on. Sometimes trim can make strange things happen during the bind process. I would remove any trim on the TX if it has any and place the TX at least 10' away when trying to bind. Other than that, if it still doesn't bind I'd say you have a bad TX, RX, or both.

@@bradleymancini1292 No, they won't be in sync.
