Hello again, Shiny Crafty People! Tim Totten here and today I want to share with you a fun Christmas decoration I made from 12 potholders I bought at the Dollar Tree!
This super simple (once I figured out the right angles) design actually looks pretty complicated, but I promise you can make it faster than I did if you follow the tutorial.
SUPPLY LIST:
12 square potholders ($1.25 for two at Dollar Tree = $7.50)
Matching Thread
Scissors to remove tags
Sewing Machine
Cardboard or wreath frame to reinforce (optional)

Love this wreath! And it is so great that you did all of the heavy lifting for us (the dreaded angle math). Thanks for suggesting that it isn't just for Christmas. I am looking forward to finding potholders. This is also perfect for those gift giving restrictions of $10.

Ugh. Math is hard. I'm so happy I'm not the only one that struggles. 😂😂 Great job, Tim! For under $10 you could make a few without having to get a 2nd mortgage!! ❤

I love it as both hats but that collar!!! That’s just excellent. Seriously, I saw the very expensive version and thought, NO! But your version with potholders is a definite YES. Thanks for doing the math for us.

Lol. I actually like the hat too! Gotta find the right holiday party for it. I’d love to see what you do with the potholders you find.

I really appreciate the 1” square on the template. Printers and software can vary, so the 1” square is helpful for adjustments. 😊😊

How on earth did i miss this one? It's a bad you tube not letting me know it was there to watch! King Tim, the Myan King of the pot holders, well that's what the blooper hat reminded me of. Thank you for sharing the process, it is good to see the hiccups that come with trying to work something out without a pattern or any instructions. Just an idea in your brain and a vision of what you want it to be like at the end. Also a big thank you for adding the template so the rest of us don't need to do any sewing maths if we don't want to. Off now to scroll through to see if there are any more gems i may have missed.💜💐

Thanks Tim for the pattern and the wreath idea. Hawaii has no dollar stores. We also have no square pot holders...fortunately, there is amazon and my brother and niece who live in California. They hate to go shopping especially at dollar stores and hobby lobby who also does not ship to hawaii. Go figure...you are so entertaining! Mahalo plenti! Ce

Thank you sooo much for this idea! I made the ones with fabric, interfacing , beads and the pattern. They are hexagons. It took a lot more work and money. I am soooooo going to get a bunch of potholders from Dollar Tree! Some candles too! We sewed beads at the joins on top for a little more decorative look.

So much fun! Definitely needs some stabilizing for hanging on the wall, you are correct. Could possibly sew it/ tack it down to one of the Dollar Tree metal wreath forms? Still under $10! 😂 An all-metal coat hanger could possibly work, too, though I’m not sure it would be stiff enough. Or some millinery wire, but that would probably cost more and be more difficult to locate. I bet this would be pretty for spring or summer or even fall, depending on which potholders you found. I am tempted to go see what our local DT has right now in the end of summer. A sunflower would be super fun, or something orangey for fall. 😃 Like you, I like the loops. And then you have infinite places to hang it! You could also get super fancy and add a bow… but that might push it over $10. 😂😂 I loved the “hats” at the end. LOL!

For years , I've been making candle wreaths , that sort of look that way.... This would be a beautiful candle ring , laid on a table with the a big candle in the center.... thanks for the idea with the potholders. If you were to make it with fabric squares... etc... what size again is the square of the pot holder?
