I think that dress would look great with a wide belt

Put a belt on with the dress. It will help a lot.

Oh Children’s ward that and pebble mill you are really taking me back. I can’t I in see it - I vote cut it off or cinch in waist with an elastic channel

I agree with a lot of the other comments that suggest you make it more fitted and break it up a bit with a coloured belt. As soon as you pulled it in at the waist it looked better.

Great video as always. With the dress, what about changing the neck & arm binding/cuffs, to match the dress fabric. For me it’s that that makes it look hospital like. The fabric is fantastic otherwise!! Hope you had a great day sewing!

i'd change the cuffing and make it in the same fabric or white.

Looking forward to your travertine. Love the SOE dress on you - keep making them! For the hospital gown dress…. Cut it into a tshirt and make the offcut into a skirt or shorts? I think that could look cute and worst come to worse they’d be lovely PJs ;) - fails happen…. But look at your ratio 🎉 of success to fail ❤

Make your hospital outfit into a tee shirt

For your dress, you could try elastic in the waist or very subtle French darts. The dress needs some shaping. When you pulled it back, it looked very nice. Good luck

Hi Sam, love the fabric but like you I got gown vibes - mine were nightdress ones. Make it into a top and the skirt into either a skirt or shorts x

Maybe the solid banding on that dress accentuates the "hospital gown" suggestion. Try iy without, or with banding made from the print to blend in.

Um I see a hospital gown a top and shorts might be better option love the rest of your makes😊😊

Before cutting your dress I would suggest shortening length a touch, perfect to wear with white canvas sneakers. I would have kept the neck and arm bands in same fabric

There is a subtle hospital gown/ scrubs vibe, maybe take the skirt off and reattach with a contrast band to break it up or with a wee bit of elastic to change the shape a bit?

The hospital gown dress, try using a belt with a buckle. If that doesn't work cut it off for a top. I didn't think it looked like a hospital until you said that.

This was a lovely informative episode. The check trousers look great on you. I think the problem dress is just a mismatch between the fabric and the pattern. I agree with your suggestion re cutting it down to a t shirt. You may possibly also need to change the ribbing to the same fabric or white. I managed to salvage a jumper recently and now it is quite wearable - much to my delight. Happy sewing.🌸

Love the makes- they are all perfect for you. As for “hospital gown” dress…if it were mine I would change neckband and cuffs to same fabric as dress, add a waist channel, side splits and drawstring. Just a thought 🤔. The SOE dress- you have just convinced me I need it to make in jersey. Happy sewing 😊. Lynne

The dress looks lovely, but sometimes once you have seen something you can’t unsee it. Maybe cut a waist line (empire line height) and add a waist band the same as cuff/neck band and then add the skirt back on, maybe slightly gathered for shape? ❤

Make a Tee Shirt from the dress, can definitely see a hospital gown now you have said it.

I love the fabric but yes, hospital gown. I think it’s because the leopards print, being in a small size and different colours, looks like the small print pattern often used.

It's funny, I'm sure I wouldn't have thought 'hospital gown' when I saw that dress, but since you've said it, I can't really unsee it either. There is definitely something about that fabric in that pattern that seems to be giving it that feel. Perhaps it's abundance of primary colors and cute flowers? Anyway, if you can get yourself to unsee it and feel better about it, it's adorable on you. It's such a happy fabric. For many, many years, I've been one of those people who finds something they like and buys it in multiple colors/patterns, so I'm quite sure I'll find sewing patterns I love that I'll make multiple times. Why not make the things you love in new fabrics that are just asking you to do it? That Summer in New York dress is beautiful!

I subscribe to Julie Sews Her Own Clothes vlog and she had a similar 'hospital gown' fail. I can't remember which pattern it was but it was a similar shape to yours and definitely the design on the fabric that made it look like scrubs.

Your hospital gown dress would be transformed if you had a deep tie belt but I’d also be tempted to make it sleeveless. I feel that the grown on sleeves are not helping with that gown look. It would look great as a T-shirt but you’re never going to be happy reaching for it if it stays as it is now that you have it in your head. X

I think you are being too harsh. I can understand when a thought comes into your head that it's hard to dismiss it. I've had a similar situation happen to me with a chambray fabric and 'scrubs'. In my circumstance, I had to refashion it into something else, and now I love it! For that reason, I would either make it into a tee shirt or make it into a mote fitted dress. Love your channel ❤❤ x

In Switzerland we are having a cold , dreary summer. Usually we have weeks with temperatures ranging grim 25 to 36 degrees C, often with fabulous thunderstorms late afternoon, evening. Last year we had a heatwave which was very scary. The basement of our house, which stays cool due to being partly buried into a hill, started to warm slightly. It was really worrying. Anyway …. Sewing. I love the Madras check trousers. I want to make the Chanterelle. I bought their course on fitting trousers and that is included

It may not be your vibe but my thought was to make the dress more fitted and add a denim jacket or a solid (shorter) cardigan and finish the look with some trainers for comfy, casual look. Whatever you end up doing will make you smile.

I work in a children's hospital. People are wearing scrubs in all colours, shapes and styles. I think the print reads as 'pretty' even though it's animal print. The contrast bands also add to the scrubs effect. Theoretically it should have worked. But visit me at work in Sydney and no one will bat an eyelid!

Once you said ‘children’s ward’ I saw what you were saying ! For me, once I have taken against something I can’t get past that and actually wear it , so would make separates from it and then actually use them

I wouldn't have immediately thought "hospital gown" but I think it's the cuffing/ribbing you used-- the red is too primary. I think it needs black. I also think perhaps making the waist either more fitted OR wear a belt with it-- maybe try an obi belt?

I do hope you like the pattern for the Busy Bee Challange🤞 I like the dress you arn’t sure about but I can see what you mean about hospital gown now you have said it! I would still wear but if your unsure I would chop to a T-shirt length and make the bottom into a short elastic waist skirt so you can wear separately or together as a more fitted faux dress
@jackiturner9228

Love your makes! I reckon the hospital gown dress can be saved by swapping the red arm and neckline for the same fabric, or white! And maybe chop a few inch off the length Xx

It does look like a hospital gown, I’m afraid. I think it’s the size of the pattern and the length of the dress; ditsy patterns can tend towards the hospital dress look for some reason. Try it knee length or as a t-shirt or with a wide bright belt.

I hope you dont mind me suggesting but why not put an elastic casing in the dress. It would look completely different.

Lol at the hospital gown look, I wonder whether it's partly the red sleeve cuffs. Do you have enough of the same fabric to re do them as I feel like that might help. Otherwise it would be great at the beach or as a nightwear

Hi! I'm so sorry, but I need to agree with you on the dress. Gorgeous happy summer pattern, but I do think it looks like it belongs in the hospital. And it's not so much the fabric as it is the red neck binding and the arm band. That's what gives it more of a hospital gown feel. You could add a fun red belt to see if that helps. Otherwise I like the t-shirt idea with a solid colored short or pants. Thanks for your fun content and lovely makes.
