Welcome to my RU-vid channel. My name is Sam and I have been Sequingirlie for many years. You can find me on Instagram as Sequingirlie too. I will share videos about my sewing journey, creating the wardrobe of clothes I want rather than what the shops tell me to have. You can be guaranteed colour and joy and creativity. Thank you for joining me on my journey of creation.

It came out so well! I know you'll happily wear that for a long time to come. It was so good to hear you talk about things not needing to be perfect, particularly in the realm of quilting. I think some of us who are trying to let go of perfectionism, and those who don't necessarily strive for it but also limit themselves because it seems out of reach, can be inspired and reassured by seeing examples of what can be done even without being strictly precise. Also, being given permission to just play by someone else helps us all give ourselves permission to do it. I'm not much help with the dress selection, as I've not made any of them, but the ones that really grabbed my attention were Tamzin, Mushroom, Sofia, and Pauline. Of the four, I think the Sofia feels most like it fits the challenge. I'm also very drawn to batiks, so I love the idea of that. Can't wait to see what you do, because all your options are really lovely, and it will be a beautiful dress.

I say Malaga in October... Anyone??? I don't agree with any of those choices for a beachy holiday. Carry-on only... Way tooooo much fabric to stuff in the suitcase IMO and on the body for sunny beach.... Need room for seperates... When I was in Portugal and Spain last two European vaca's....I could always spot a tourist by the long tiered pouffy dresses.... And they always had English accents ... It was wierd. Aren't the olives harvested in October???

It is so long since I had a holiday outside the UK I'm honestly not sure. I dream of one and realistically I need to see a dress I will wear.

Hi Sam. I love the vest you made! The only enhancement I would be longing for would be to use some nice soft flannel from a secondhand shirt to make the bias binding and use it on the neckline too so where the vest is up against skin, it is like a little caress. It's a fantastic upcycle and will be a great layering piece, Antonia

Ooh yes I will keep my eye out for some flannel to make bias. Great suggestion.

Gilet looks great on you! The reason I love sewing is it gives you creative licence to do what you want, how you want, so absolutely "you do you" me however I'm a little bit OCD 😮so I'd have to line it all up with rulers and colours etc! 🤣

Yes, please no more Fabric haul videos, money is tight these days and it seems sewists brag about all the fabric they buy, and it comes off as no different than buying fast fashion when they are bored

@@sequingirlie thank you😊. I meant to say that I love how your gilet turned out too. And I agree that this fabric looks perfect with imperfect stitching lines. It wouldn't have suited it as much to have everything lined up exactly. It's very designer or boutique looking. You and Loves Red Sews should open a boutique together.

Great vlog as always. I don’t feel pressured to buy fabric or patterns when they are shared I am envious but that is a natural feeling and I am happy to feel like that sometimes. I only buy when I can afford it. Love your thoughts and value them and find watching ironing very therapeutic lol. Keep going this chat has been very thought provoking and am sure to others as well ❤️❤️❤️

I like seeing hauls tbh as I will often see fabric I didn’t know about and also fabric shops I didn’t know about. I don’t think they influence me if I’m not in the mood anyway so I’m not pressured. I do try to recycle stuff a lot and love that process. I do have a lot of clothes now though more than I ever would have buying fast fashion so there is a conundrum!

Not interested in hauls or subscription unboxings at all as I always want to see and handle fabrics before buying them. I have my own particular desires as regards type of fabric, colours etc that I want at any particular time. In case you would like to know what I do watch - I am interested in seeing finished garments and hearing about the making up, the fitting, the accuracy of the pattern drafting and instructions (if using a commercial pattern rather than self drafted) and construction of said garments. I do like to know whether or not the fabric used for a garment turned out to be a suitable choice. Other items I like are tips on sewing techniques and tools.

Sam, I love your ironing board chats. You're a very deep thinker and take a philosophical approach to your life. I think people with that approach make their little corner of the world better. I guess I'm just a nosy person because I find anything you want to share will be interesting.😂. I appreciate your ethical approach to your vlogging.

Sam, I'm really enjoying your series on Kent. I'm in the U. S. but we're planning to make a trip to England in the next 2-3 years and I'm starting to look at the different areas that I might like to visit. I found the tidbit about hops very interesting as I grew up on a farm so the agriculture in other places is very interring to me. BTW, we do have states but our states are divided into counties, so an extra layer of government to navigate.🙄

I love that you do these thought provoking videos. I’m trying to think more carefully about the fabric that I buy, and agree that there’s a danger of becoming a “fast sewist “ just like buying lots of fast fashion, which I deliberately avoid. On the other hand, I did enjoy seeing what you bought! Hypocrite, moi? 😊
@TheAprilbe

I am glad you are avoiding the ‘haul’ - the celebration of excess does make me feel uncomfortable, whilst I really enjoy thoughtful content that is aware of the impact that our shopping has, and the way our lifestyle does not have to constantly ‘feed the machine’. Of course there is no perfect solution, but I appreciate you sharing your principles and values with us, using pre-loved material, seeking independent retailers, using and adapting patterns we have - and maybe even clothes we already own but don’t wear etc. Love the way you can take a sideways look at things we might not think of. The way you model your confident and stylish ‘look’ without constantly having to buy new is inspiring, keep up the good work! And as for all your material arriving at once, you can explain why that happened - and being human not perfect is much more real and enjoyable to watch 😊

Love watching you do your ironing as I’m busy in the kitchen! I understand your thoughts exactly, I’m not a big fabric or pattern buyer but like to see other peoples purchases in amongst what they have sewn or ideas they have. I think you offer a good variety of vlogs and well balanced views that fabric purchases can go happily alongside😊
