Thanks for posting! My own little project was simply to replace a broken zipper on a favourite hoodie, and of all the videos this one is the most informative on how these things come together. On a large project like sails i have newfound respect for the level of skill that goes into it!

I'll echo the importance of the match-up marks, especially on a long zipper. I didn't use them when I sewed my first zipper project - a 14' long zipper on a stack pack. Even though I was careful not to stretch the zipper I wound up with an extra 2" of zipper on one side of the stack pack compared to the other! "Time to get the seam ripper out..." lol. The take-away lesson: Watch all relevant Sailrite videos before tackling a type of canvas project you've never done before. :-) Capt. Blackheart Charlie s/v Aurora, Key West

I made my own ultralight camper (basically a tent on a trailer). I studied these videos for a year before I touched a sewing machine. I just wanted to say, a lot of what you teach applies perfectly to ultralight camping folk, tenting folk, caravaners, etc.

Thank you so much for your videos. They are so detailed and easy to follow. I'm making an awning for my campervan as my first major project and your videos have been absolutely invaluable. From showing me how to make seams to fitting zippers, you have a step-by-step video right there for me to use. I'm a complete novice with a sewing machine, but you have given me the confidence to go ahead and give it a try. I just wish that the voiceover guy at the start and end of your presentations would stop calling your company "saya-right" !!! Dumb I know, but I listen out for it now.

Just wanted to drop a little thank you in here, i have been sewing heavy items for a while now pouches and bags for paint ball and airsoft. You're channel has really helped me learn a lot of valuable lessons in a short period of time. @Sailrite1 zipper 101 was good, I am really looking forward to 102 and 103 . This is "just in time' video production.I hope you are going to cover the best way to put a zipper in that goes from the bottom of a piece to partway up in the central area of an existing piece. (as in an acess zipper ).

I have a pretty good idea that you've been doing this a while. I use a tape equivalent to your basting tape when I do regular sewing - can't imagine not using it.

Excellent. A good video to have bookmarked to come back to for tech data. I use the heck out of that tape from you guys in two widths... a roll seems to last forever and it sticks well to the Cordura and other man-made polyesters and canvas for assembly like you show.

Matt - you were going pretty fast with that machine. I'm quite surprised you didn't get pulled over by a traffic cop for speeding. I think you would have gotten a speeding ticket.

Hi Matt , great information I buy and sell several boats a year that need new cushions and canvas work, It gets very expensive to have the work done by a canvas company. My question is what is a good overall sewing machine to do the work I need without purchasing a different machine down the road.. Thanks again, Frank

ARe you sewing through the basting tape when you're putting the zipper in?
