Hope Kemmerer Agree. Also if certain questions were made with a lie detector the answers would change drastically haha! Like the masturbation question. It has been proven how pretty much everybody does it as it is natural normal and healthy but for a girl to dare herself to be honest enough to admit it is nearly impossible but we still lie about it, right? ☺️

I, however, do not masturbate anymore but that is because I live with my boyfriend and don't have the need to... I also didn't do it until I got into a relationship with my current boyfriend and only started to do it because I was in a LDR. just something to think about

i feel like the reason some of the answers were surprising to you was because of people’s age. a lot of 15-20 year olds will still live at home which can affect whether they sleep naked (lack of privacy etc), they might be too scared to order a sex toy to their house & keep it away from their family, younger people might be less likely to have had some of the experiences you talked about (one night stands, holiday flings). i wish there was an accurate way to split this survey into age categories!! (not saying age is always the reason! but just am curious to find out how much age affected these results)

There is a way to split the survey into age categories. You ask for age in the questionnaire, and then sort the result by age groups. The biggest problem of course with doing this is sample size. For the results to have any real meaning you would need to get at least a couple hundred responses for each age category.

if you want to do that again next year I think you should do it with the google survey thing so you can have more options, a more diverse audience could answer and you could make cool graphs (and even see if some answers are related!)

I think the Nerdfighteria Census uses SurveyMonkey, which doesn't connect results to Google accounts, (or at least I think I was able to fill it in in a private browsing window), and it has a bunch of options for viewing subsets of the data, too.

@Dahn I didn't mean that she should use google specifically but I didn't know any of the other websites that can be used to do this. Also, I used google forms once so I knew that the data would be easy to collect and analyse with it. I agree that it's probably not the best solution and I'm happy to see that some people suggested other solutions like survey monkey !

@none given Similar thing here. I never wanted gremlins and my better half was told from an early age she couldn't have them, so she was already in that mindset when she entered adulthood. When we got together properly (friends for a long while first) we settled on it just being us and we weren't interested in adopting. It works out well for us, given that her job takes her away quite a bit.

Like “how early into dating is it appropriate to have sex” Or other taboo stuff! waaah I love surveys and demographics, I was so excited to take the poll and now see the answers! If you're doing this again, maybe share the link for it on RU-vid beforehand so it's not just your IG audience. And having the option of telling you our age, so you can split the answers into different age groups. Also as a German I wasn't that surprised to see Germany as your largest non-English speaking audience. We have early and good sex ed in schools so people are generally and interested and wanting to talk about sex. But we don't have a German-speaking RU-vidr focussed on sex and relationships in a way that you are (they're either pornographic or targeted to pre-teens), so I can see how you're basically filling the market niche.

@@hannahwitton I believe that so long as everyone consents to you having that data and you anonomise it in the survey its fine. So stick a question in at the start with the correct gdpr wording then you should be able to report the survey results in the same way as this video. My source is the gdpr training my work made me do :D

I’m so early! The joys of chronic pain and chronic insomnia. 😅 I loved doing the survey and find it really interesting that less than 10% of humans are non monogamous! As a poly human, that’s so interesting to me. I’d love if you could redo this in a year and add in other questions. But I can’t think of other questions. Oh! Maybe birth control questions and about contraception in general. I’ll have to think about other ideas. ☺️

Oh! Also maybe about who people think should be initiating sexy time since all hetero people I know say the man but LGBT+ people seem to have all different answers. I personally think it should be a mix depending on all different reasons but due to my illnesses, my partner will hint at it gently but has allowed me to feel safe enough to suggest it. I never felt comfortable enough to do that in a relationship before.

I would like to point out to you that some of your subs may not have access to Instagram, some of your followers may not do the surveys because they don't have the time, and some subs may be lying! Even though these are fun little surveys and they are anonymous some people may be lying to be for it or against it! I mean honestly, I'm pretty sure a lot more people use sex toys, and a lot more people have cheated and a lot more people have had flings while they were on vacation away from their significant others. I prefer to sleep with pyjama bottoms on (pyjama tops, nahhh) because especially when it's hot there's still chub rub. Sometimes I do sleep naked, but more often than not I'll at least have bottoms or a pair of knickers on. I *almost* had a holiday fling when I was 18, but it was the last night there and we needed to up early to get to the airport :P I think I would still be monogamous even if I'd been aware of other relationship types as a child, I don't share well. Query on the ethics of not paying for erotic stories (online)? (and does that count as 'porn'?)

I'd say that online erotic stories definitely can be porn. However the lack of potential for exploitation makes getting them for free much less problematic. That being said, some of the authors are wonderful and if they have a way of getting money for their work (patreon etc) it's a good idea to support the people whose work you enjoy.

I think when it comes to video porn there probably are ethical ways of watching free videos but it’s so hard to tell what’s been ethically made and what hasn’t so the best way to be sure is to pay. With written erotica as long as you’re reading it on a platform where the author intended you to read it (not stolen) then I think it’s fine to read for free. Hannah Witton: does paying for porn necessarily mean there's not exploitation, though? I wouldn't think so... the money can still go to an extractive capitalist producer who's exploiting people, no? I would think it's much more about selecting (and then paying to support) ethically made porn ... which of course requires research to be done, which can be a barrier for many. So... thank you for mitigating that barrier by providing that list in the description!

I would've cliked no there because I don't watch porn and therefore I don't pay for any, sooo... I feel like even if you're paying for it there's no way to be a 100% sure that what you're watching is actually "ethical" and that nobody was hurt in any way or (especially in the case of amateur porn) that one or more of the people in it regrets having put it out there and wish that it was taken down. I sometimes read erotica though. At least that way you know it's just someones fantasy and nothing shady is going on.

I think a poll style question about contraception would be really interesting- asking percentages who use condoms, who just use IUD's/The Pill, people who prefer cervical caps or alternate forms of contraception, and people who use none at all. I'm personally very interested in the contraception habits of the world. In addition, I think asking what year people were taught sex ed in school would be interesting!

Hannah as you know asking me for question ideas can be dangerous as quite happy to fill up the comment areas with a quadrillion questions. So I will contain myself and just say... I would like more questions about different kinks and fetishes and if people just fantasise about them or would be willing to try them with a partner if it was openly discussed and agreed before hand. If you ever want a long list of questions you know you only have to ask 😉

I love this survey!! If you did another one (plz don't make us wait a year!) I would like for there to be maybe sexual orientation questions and more middle answers like sometimes so people can be more accurate. More questions maybe geared towards the younger audience (since a significant amount of people who watch you are younger) like about virginity (maybe what people think of virginity as), if people have had sex before, if they want to, if they're scared because they live with these parents to explore sex because their parents aren't very open about that or they maybe feel unsafe to have those experiences because of homophobia,, ask how old people were when they first had sex

If you conduct a survey like this on something like Qualtrics (very easy to use, I use it at uni!), it's possible to gain a lot more data and see interesting relationships, like whether answering one way to one question correlates with answering another way on a different question (like you said)! You can just give out a link so it's super easy for people to complete :)

My answer to the pajamas question: I’m having more night sweats so if I sleep naked, I am sweating into the sheets more than if I’m in pajamas (because I sweat into the pajamas instead). Though I find myself in less pajamas now than I have worn in the past. So it’s a shirt and underwear or a shorts set or chemise. All of which are still a bit less coverage but I feel like I don’t have to change my sheets every day this way.

Hanna consider using google forms for the next survey. You can acces the raw data so you can do the cross question analysis that you wanted (60% of those who answered "yes" on Q1 also answered "no" on Q2). Im quite good at both this kind of statistical analysis and google sheets wizardry x) (And if you need any help getting in to it i got you)

Interesting as a social scientist! Your sample is size wise similar to the NATSAL one (The National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles) which has produced lots of interesting studies...definitely would interesting to compare answers to the questions which are similar

Suggestion for next Instagram poll - rather than simply providing demographics of all of your followers, one of the first questions you can ask is what is their age group, whether they live in a city or countryside, education status and other relevant stuff. That can give you/us more clarity about the answers. As you said in the marriage question as well as the one about kids, we can't really get a proper view on why there is such a huge disproportion. Just a thought 😊

Questions to consider adding - How many different sexual partners have you had? 0 (virgin), 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10+ At what age did you lose your virginity (if previous wasn't 0)? Before 15, 15-16, 17-18, 19-20, 21+

I would definitely agree that even within the sample of people who follow your Instagram is likely that age/demographic might be connected with the ways in which people are interacting. I'm 25 and I know that in general my friends who are older than me (and myself) don't really do 'stories' on Instagram whereas my friends my age and younger definitely do watch all the stories in their feed every day.

I think it would be interesting to do this survey with a real survey maker next time, so you can put the link on RU-vid too and also put a spectrum in the answers (more than two possibilities). This will take you more time, but it'll be soooooo interesting !! And also, people would have more than 24h to answer and I wouldn't miss it ;p In terms of questions, maybe a question about sexual orientation would be interesting. And about the type of contraception people use,
