Imagine how crushing it would've been to play Deejay in early Ultra when he lost the low invul on light Sobat and see that not only did Omega Deejay get to keep it but that he also got it on heavy Upper for basically no reason

I don't need to... I mained Deejay in 4. Not even Gen's omega infinite was as much of a repeated kick the balls as this was, and that infinite was literally an old man infinitely kicking you in the balls.

You said that as it wasn't crushing to olsy DeeJay in later Ultra... It looks bad from the outside, but it's actually WAY WORSE when you actually olay him. I main him since he first appeared in SSFIV and it has never been pretty to play him. Still have a lot of fun with him. Can't wait to see how low tier he'll be again 😅

I think having Dee Jay as a motion character makes more sense thematically. He’s a dancer, he’s not gonna duck for a second every time he wants to do something cool. He’s gonna go fluidly from move to move. Spontaneity over calculation, any day of the week.

i actually suspect SF6 Dee Jay will be motion by pure fact that they probably want to revisit nash's playstyle without bringing him back from the dead... again. Omega Dee Jay being a Nash prototype just cements this thought for me. Both characters share a position of being built on the Guile achetype, but SFV feels like the only time they really made it work, so my gut says they'll be looking at Nash as the foundation of this version of Dee Jay I would personally prefer charge Dee Jay though. I just like charge more lol

He could come back as a hybrid charge/motion character kinda like sfv Oro or Balrog. It would allow him to still have charge be a large part of his character while not making his punishes that much worse if he needs to walk forward.

Yup. It's very, VERY possible that Omega was only released so Capcom could try out concepts they had for V while the game was still in pre-alpha.

Dee Jay is definitely going to be motion. Even if it's not the best change for him, it's what's most highly requested, plus it helps differentiate him from Guile. And, as someone else said, it lets Capcom keep aspects of Nash without un-unaliving him again.

I think the SF6 team is more aware of charge QoL than the SF4 team was, so at the very least Dee Jay will be able to punish and confirm like the rest of the cast, whether it be via new command normals or full motion

@@tootsie_ as someone who actually played this character if he had to be hybrid I’d rather have slash and machine gun upper be charge moves and sobat and dp be motions. You’d rather have consistent access to an anti air over zoning and machine gun upper is a high damage niche set up move vs a very good general conversion tool so I’d rather sobat be much easier to use then the machine gun punches.

First of all, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making this video Baf! I was really looking foward to it, since I made that post on Twitter. Omega DJ seems like a much more fun/better version of the character, even with still some issues. About the "elephant in the room", I see people either saying he should become a definitive motion character, or at least be a hybrid character, with still like 2 charge moves. Like someone from the comments said, I also think the motion type fits DJ better since he's a very energetic character, and doesn't really seem the "defensive" type. Plus, with Guile being the pillar of charge characters, and returning like that in SF6, I think they can change Dee Jay to a motion character indeed, but he needs stuff to actually make him more viable/strong. I have hopes Capcom actually does that. So, with that said, thanks once again Baf! TAKE THAT *MAXIMUM LIKE!* 😎🎧🎶🥊👍🇯🇲

I wonder if Dee Jay will be a hybrid motion/charge character in SFVI. He could be, in a weird way, a dictator replacement. Make Sobat function like Scissor Kicks more and keep it as charge, overhaul a motion airslasher to be more of a combo tool then a fireball, and keep upkicks as charge. I don't know, could be neat I guess.

i hope DeeJay gets akuma-style teleports in SF6, with the animation being him dancing. you could call them “danceports”. put them on a qcb+P input alongside his regular charge moveset.

So glad to see this series back By the way, cl.hp also super cancels on the second hit and cl.hk launches, so his cl.hp is no longer a shitty useless move and cl.hk's function is now put onto cl.hp with cl.hk gaining new utility This is why I love Omega mode

This is probably my favourite version of Dee Jay since Super Turbo, they didn't really do anything to him past Super Turbo to really shake him up when he moved to 4, it felt like a lot of his stuff got taken away instead of preserved and felt like you had adhesive to stick to the ground This Dee Jay in contrast is much better, this feels like a proper SF6 version of Dee Jay, new moves for him to play around with without taking away what makes him fun to play, the only thing I can say bad about this one is that I don't know if I agree with him being a motion character, I've already played with him so much as a charge character, regardless I'll be happy either way I would be more upset if they just did nothing, buffed tiny things about him and say "hey he's a motion character now" and called it a day, I wish I knew more about Omega Dee Jay's new stuff like his TC, I only really knew about his new special moves It's hard to say what he'll become in SF6, since Waning Moon is a motion input and they'll have to think about how they would make that a charge input if he is exclusively charge, perhaps he would become a hybrid of charge and motion, who knows? I'll be happy to play him when he releases

Personally I hope in SF6 dee jay has a few motions that flow into his required charges to act as a sort of bridge from motion characters and charge characters, i.e. the waning moon hcb so he can get back charge or a divekick command normal that requires a down input so he can hold it and have downcharge started while still playing the game, gives him a status as a charge character like people remember and possibly a charge character that people can pickup easier by mixing in motions that let them get to required charge

6:04 theres an ultra 1 route that use an extra bar but breaks 500 damage (does about 640 on jHK jump in) because the full animation plays. crMP -> crHP -> Medium Air slasher -> FADC -> Sobat Festival

i like charge characters and i think that dee jay doesn't have to become a motion character to be a good design. what i would like is fur the charge aspects of his design to be emphasized while making him a more mobile character design, to match his energetic purrsonality. it's kind of crazy to think maining this toilet water character was what got me really deep into fighting games AND was how i met my boyfriend lmfao

Much more important is that he feels faster in SF6, maybe tone down the zoner and add more dynamic movement, even though guile is already that in multiple street fighters, they can still add layers to mixup games

@@javiermoreno5898 i think some kind of mobility tool as one of his charge moves would be good, and having more ways to chain moves together would again fit with his purrsonality. e.g. maybe instead of only being able to do a second fireball after EX fireball, having the option to do OD fireball into another OD move after fur an addition drive stock.

@@DEClimax I do agree on this, and I am surprised by how there aren’t many if even exist charge movement oriented moves, maybe blanka rainbow ball but still that would be good. Also much more links can make him play effective pressure up close, maybe make him a zoner as he is yet have pressure for his energetic fast personality, have him be mediocre at closer than jump distance and have him expensive combos to balance him out, that could play really well and into his personality. Looking forward to see what happens tho

OaaG was awesome, glad to see it (and Baf himself) back. As for Dee Jay, I think motion inputs are possible (especially after Vega), but only if they can't find a way to make charge work. Maybe they'll make one of his moves a motion input but keep the rest of him charge (like SFV charge characters). Personally I don't mind charge at all, the problem was that he's a charge character with no ways to build charge (like SF3 Remy).

I expect Dee Jay to be a motion character in SF6 not just to make him feel better but to make him more accessible too. Unorthodox special inputs like charging have become less of a thing in modern fighting games. They'll still exist to an extent like with Guile and Chun but that's Guile and Chun. Two of the genres most iconic characters who players have sunk thousands of hours into. It'd be weird to make them motion characters at this point. Dee Jay has never been a very popular character though. A few people might dislike it but making Dee Jay a motion character would probably do a lot for him.

I would do a mixture of charge and regular motions. I think Rolling Sobat and Machinegun Upper should be motion inputs while Air Slash and Jacknife Maximum remain charge

Another Proto-sfv feature: Omega Dee Jay far fierce launches on counter hit. As far as I can tell, anything that works from his other juggle states works there too.

I would like to see Waning Moon and MGU as motions, and Sobat Kicks, Air Slashers and Jackknife Maximum as charge moves. Waning moon can be a party starter, overhead and way around fireballs on reaction and MGU is for damage, a combo ender and for when you don't have charge but want a quick punish. Keeping Air slasher as a charge move means you can make it really good, and let's also incorporate the just frame mechanic where you can do perfect versions. Jackknife Maximum as charge means that you can let it auto correct sides and be a really good anti air still. And rolling sobats is a good combo tool with ex having fireball invincibility. If you give him that with some new target combos, a proper Jamaican accent for once, a rhythm game 3 bar super that powers you up like Kimberly and a marraca mechanic for damage like Jamie and his drinks, then he would be really fun!

I hope SF6 makes him a motion character like USF4 Omega. As a charge character he was pretty much completely outclassed by Guile (except in SSF2T) so not having to charge was a pretty good buff for him. I just want to see Dee Jay be viable again

For the most part he still seems like a charge character, but Waning Moon looks like the overhead followup from his Jus Cool sway. And Machinegun Upper is definitely a motion input.

I'll admit, all this time, I dismissed Omega Mode as being an 'enhanced' mode akin to Gold characters in Guilty Gear and Unlimited characters in BlazBlue, and found it baffling that people actually thought up a competitive Omega Mode metagame. After seeing these more in-depth dissections, I'm just that little bit more convinced that Omega is just an alternative rather than a God Mode mod for the cast.

Most of the omega mode characters seem to be well balanced against the ultra characters, though they are somewhat easier to play.

Omega Dee Jay is probably my favorite character in SF4 alongside Ultra SF4 Oni. I personally really like the removal of motion inputs as I don't really like playing as charge characters I also think it is suits his personality as a dancer he wouldn't 'sit around' and wait for something to charge but of course personality and playstyle are two different things and don't need to match. While I would want Dee Jay to not have charge in SF6 due to the rarity of them I do think it would be for the best fo the game if he did.

Dee Jay was a ton of fun to play as in SFIV but it was a shame he was so bad (compared to other characters). I hope he's given a significant bump in SF6.

Coming back to this after the recent SF6 developer match footage with Dee Jay. Air Slash, Sobat, and his upkicks still seem like charge moves, although his new Jus Cool sway move and Machinegun Upper seem like motion inputs. You can see after he Drive Impacts Dhalsim into the wall that the dev playing as Dee Jay walked forward a little bit and then did what looks like cr.HP into Machinegun Upper, so there's no way it's a charge move. If I had to guess Jus Cool's input, it could either be a quarter circle or two Punch/two Kick buttons like Ken's run. If Dee Jay was in SFV I imagine that this would be one of his V-Skills. He looks really fun, I'll definitely give him a try when the game comes out or if we get another beta. EDIT: His voice actor was changed too, but I think I'm still getting lost in da beat.

I know it seems unlikely…but I would love it if we could get a rerelease if Omega down the line with rollback net code. I mean. No one saw a Red Earth getting an official release with lobbies and rollback and HERE WE ARE. It could happen. And I would love it.

Actually, on a lot of character, maybe all I haven't tested, deejay has midscreen and corner setups to do meterless or one meter fireball combos into u1. It does require specific combos, but is possible, making u1 a little less bad than it seems.

none of his specials should be charge in sf6, imagine being a character that never shuts up about finding rhythm, but is forced into obeying the rhythm of charge mechanics 100% of the time.

I’ll just say transition to motion from charge is a tough thing for capcom in the past, as Vega proved last game and to some, there are a lot of hybrid characters in SFV as they are still trying to balance that. I hope he comes out great as I am looking which characters to play in SF6, Mimi, Jamie and Dee Jay are top of my list as of now and I cannot wait to play it

That’s because Vega has been ass since after cvs2. They refuse to let this character be good being motions now only made him better. He was just that terrible in 4.

also i think the very frequently used talking point that "charge inputs are too hard to learn" to explain why devs should or will make charge chars into motion chars is a very confusing thing to keep stumbling on. the idea that learning SF with charge characters could be harder than learning with motions literally never even occurred to me. i just played the game and learned. i feel like people fur whom charge inputs are difficult just kind of assume that expurrience is universal but it really isn't. ideally games will have chars that appeal both to people who struggle with or dislike charging enough to want no charge moves in their moveset, and people who find the unique dynamic of gaining charge appealing enough to want most or all of their character's moves to be charge.
