First lore video and the gameplay is the first time I've played Elden Ring in like a year so don't you dare judge. Don't you dare. Also, I pulled an all nighter editing this and I don't remember what I said I would link so these are all guesses. Let's all hope I remember to check these at some point

Can't wait for Dlc to reveal that Mesmmer is actually the child of Marika's first husband, Radfrey, the Crucible lord

WARNING: HEAVY DOSE OF SPECULATION What I like to think is, the crucible acted as a sort of cauldron for various concepts and orders that came later. Something that Hyetta said about the One Great points to everything (including GW, all outer gods and races etc) coming out of what was a burrowed flame, which needed to be melted down by a cleansing flame (kinda paraphrasing there) and returned to its owner (this I interpret as being everything returning to one state of matter). Also every major faction in the game having some sort of flame assigned to them (even the Elden Beast whips out a golden black flame at the end) leads me to believe Messmer is the coalescence of what the original state of the Crucible was before it split off, personified. What leads me to think this is the markings on Messmers appearance are highly suspect. Filled with draconic, serpentine motifs and bearing a dark black and red flame that may or may not indicate deathblight influence has me thinking he’s virtually the crucible, personified and embodies all the aspects of such. Marika could very well have hid him away from the GW so as not to disrupt her order. With what we know about her and her motivations, she very likely wouldn’t have wanted him to be chosen as next in line to shape the elden ring back to a primordial state.

the way Melina is suspiciously subtle at not outright calling Marika her mother, I think you could be onto something. That is really sharp analysis

I really enjoyed this video and it raised in me several questions and theorys. What if Marika had horns and other crushable like attributes and she somehow split these attributes from herself and gave them to her children the twin omens? I don't think she really had horns but i could see her willingly cursing her children to rid herself of some aspect of herself that she thought impure.

radagon is a later adopted aspect of marika, marika herself got 'grafted' to the elden beast at the start of her career, so when you kill off the extra two bits you're left with marika's body seperated from the elden ring, most endings are putting it back in her to keep her alive for another age, while age of stars lets her body crumble to dust

I think Miyazaki equating "Erdtree" and "Golden Tree" is because the japanese version of the game never uses the word "Erdtree", instead using the kanji "黄金樹" (ōgon ju), which literally translates to "Golden Tree".

I get really suspicious sometimes when I read item descriptions, like "is this golden order propaganda ??!". Probably not but it crossed my mind that From could do something like that.

I think Melina is the geq but also an aspect of Marika that she lost, in the same way that Malenia lost her sense of self. Millicent states that she is the will that Malenia lost along the way, the driving force behind her ability to resist the scarlet rot. I think Melinda’s strictly erdtree incantations, Numen fighting style with Numen dagger and aspect of a god wardrobe all hint at this. But I think that you’re also right that Melina is the geq and that Marika is Melina is GEQ. Fabulous work. I love the connections you make with Radagon and dragons. As i think Marika/Radagon are descended from dragons. They’re literally made of stone in the end of the game and they are stated to be eternal in their name and yet everyone covets the immortality of the ancient dragons whose stone skin warps time. I’ve been saying for ages that Marika has so much Christian symbology behind her but also Mary Magdalene and also Melusine, the dragon queen who danced her ring eternal and his her true form from her King husband and her people. Bloody brilliant. Thank you for being amazing and inspiring!

What an absolute treat of a video from you!!! What if Melina's previous attempt at erdtree burning was her initiation as the next God? Her hands having burn marks could indicate the ritual wasn't complete or even backfired. So it's possible (fake)Marika disrupted Melina's rise to power when she was at her most vulnerable. Also as we arrive in Leyndell, there are Envoys heralding the arrival of a God. Now who would that be, if not her, showing up at our side? I saw Miyazaki saying there's something no one's figured out yet (I wonder if Fromsoft really follow all of our discussions) and you know what, I think your video might be it. You made the cogs in my brain tingle with excitement and adoration for this game yet again, thank you. I hope you do make more lore videos

When actually I kind of see her as an unsung hero and her methods and decisions may look to be something they aren’t. Agh!! Imma have to have this video on repeat for a wee bit! @@mr.raider7865 100% correct. There is very little we “actually know” about most of the game. I completely agree with you. But that’s why venturing out into wonderment and theory craft is so much fun and discussions about it can be enlightening as people divulge their own ponderances, perspectives and rabbit holes. I certainly don’t know anything any other player doesn’t know just as well. So I’m not or have I at any point suggested I know better. I never will. But I have formulated my own thoughts and theories on the matter, including that so many people think Marika is just bloody awful, especially now with the DLC story trailer. But I think that’s far from the truth. Why? Mostly because I have a gut instinct but also because a barrage of clues that I’m too lazy to type out. I’m sorry if I came off as smug or holier than thou or made it seem like I needed someone to tell me I don’t know any better than anyone else’s cos I don’t. Thank you for the clarification and establishing that we are equals in our simply not knowing. Though I do hope that you’ll venture out of the position of not knowing and brave forming some opinions regardless. I think there is something we are not considering, what if the Gloam eyed queen is Marika's mother? the hypothesis you presented that Marika would be Melina's mother makes sense but I think it's very clear that Melina has no memories of who she once was, I believe she thinks Marika is her mother but that's not the case , as already theorized by some channels I believe that the Gloam eyed queen had placidusax as her consort and she was the first goddess to reign, this would explain her entire connection with the crucible that you theorized about, this is a recurring theme during elden ring, the new generation revolts against the old, the trolls join with the golden order against the fire giants, the empyreans descendants of Marika conspire against her, Rykard becomes blasphemous and turns against the golden order, and so on, I strongly believe this is the shadow of Marika's past, she did exactly what they are doing to her now with her own mother in the past
@aTragedi

@@aTragedi I would like to mention that I think the gods that the Gloam eyed queen and the godskins hunted were actually other rival gods in the service of the other outer gods, possibly demigod children of those gods as well, but I believe the Gloam eyed queen would be the first goddess in the lands between, or at least the first of the lineage of the greater Will gods

Hey bro, I enjoyed the video and how well you set up what was your speculation and how you tried to frame the bases of your ideas. I reacted to it live on my channel if you want the most direct feedback to your video. A few things: As far as the localization of the "Erdtree" is concerned in interviews with Miyazaki, "Golden Tree" 黄金樹 is just what the Erdtree is always called in Japanese. The other thing I'd like to address is that the removal of the RoD isn't guaranteed to have happened at the _start_ of Marika and Godfrey's reign, and it's possible the GO was established later (towards the end of the Age of Abundance/Radagon becoming Elden Lord). That might help recontextualize Melina's/GEQ's usage of "death" even if it was still technically Marika's reign then. Peace ;)

I’ll have to check it out sometime
@aTragedi
@aTragedi 7 дней назад
I forgot to mention this on my comment under your live stream. Why don’t you link the start of the golden order with Marika’s reign? If you’re saying that Marika and Godfrey reigned and didn’t start the golden order until after the defeat of the GEQ, then how did they reign without the Elden Ring? We know that the rune of death isn’t taken from the Elden Ring until after the GEQ is defeated by Maliketh, implying her defeat was necessary to do so, and we know that she is actively using Destined Death aka the Rune of Death right up until she is defeated. My main contention with your contention if you will lol is that if she is using a still intact rune of the Elden Ring, how is she doing that without having the Elden Ring? And if she has the Elden Ring, how exactly would Marika and Godfrey be reigning over the lands between as god and Consort?
@LastProtagonist
@LastProtagonist 7 дней назад
@@aTragedi No, these are all good questions, and maybe the new trailer begins pointing things in a different direction now, but we're never given a strict timeline of *when* the GEQ is defeated. If GEQ had the Ring before Marika for the RoD to be plucked from it, it would imply the GEQ was the previous "god," but she's also not called a "god" anywhere. (She could still be a god despite not being ID'd.) I've proposed in the past it's possible the GEQ could either be Marika, or be to Marika what Radagon is to her now, and her "defeat" could coincide with a shadowbound beast becoming "bale." There's some other stuff about whether "Empyreans" are meant to succeed Queen Marika specifically, or just the vessel of the vision, but it all ultimately comes down to individual interpretation.

I’m very confused as to why some people pronounce Marika the way that you and Quelaag do. I know it doesn’t matter at all. But multiple characters in the game say her name (especially Melina) and none of them say it the way that you and Quelaag say it, so it feels purposeful and pointed that you both say it so strangely. Is that an American thing or is there some lore decision behind it? Marika rhymes with ‘merica (America)
@valentinvas6454
@valentinvas6454 Месяц назад
That's because even the characters or rather the voice actors pronounce it wrong. Just like most characters butchered Lady Dimitrescu's Romanian name in RE Village. Marika and Margit are Hungarian names so just turn Google translate to Hungarian if you want to hear the correct pronunciation. Elemér (bell bearing hunter) and (old knight) István are also Hungarian names BTW. I think these come from GRRM.
@Luaeria
@Luaeria Месяц назад
@@valentinvas6454 I just learned this from another commenter too. THANK YOU! I ended up doing tonnes of research on Hungarian history and folklore, etc… István is apparently a Hungarian King! Szent István király, apparently. King Saint Stephen in English. So that answers my question but then people are STILL pronouncing MarrEEka wrong because they say Marr-ika. But you know what? It never bothered me and it still doesn’t I just noticed it and wanted to get to the bottom of it. 😂🤣 Now I have thanks to you and the other commenter. Thank you very much!
@Luaeria
@Luaeria Месяц назад
I think part of the reason why I’m confused is that Marika wanting no one to become Elden Lord and also wanting us to create a weapon to kill a god aren’t contradictory stances nor are they mutually exclusive. 🤔 In fact, to me, it makes perfect sense if your goal is to break down an oppressive system and remove an oppressor that you are currently under complete control of. Remove Elden Lordship as an aspiration, let the tarnished continue to fight and grow ever stronger in the face of death, continuing on the cycle as the description of the memory of lost grace explains. “It is merely a cycle. Stand before the Elden Ring. Become Elden Lord.” She wants to subvert that aspect of the cycle but not the cycle itself. Additionally, we are never told why the greater will has been looking for a successor for Marika all of this time. Has she been dead alllllll of this time? If she is dead but the Elden Ring/Elden Beast is not, then how is it that you think Marika and the Elden Beast are the same single person, but Marika and Radagon who are explicitly stated to be the same person are not in the end? I am so confused.
