I've been a Deadhead since 1970. The post-Jerry bands I have found lacking in one way or another. I had been putting off seeing Dead and Co. because I thought I would be similarly disappointed. Finally, I went to a show at the Hollywood Bowl last year. I was blown away. They weren't the same; how could they be. But they are equally intense. John, thank you. I'll be following you whenever this bullshit is over.
Ken ...the emulation of Jerry vocals from JK works great in a cover band setting, but in a band with Jerry’s band mates it was pretty corny, it was like how bands lose their singer and use a sound-a-like vocalist like Journey or Foreigner...it’s awesome that you enjoyed it, but Dead & Company is easily levels above Furthur, vocally and musically.
wow hearing john talk about dark star not only makes me feel exactly perfect about my approach to it, but also excited for when i get to listening Dead & Co with John playing. this is gonna be amazing.
I have never seen you as a celebrity but that would be because I don’t look at anyone as a celebrity!! I value you as a young man still looking and asking all the questions an intelligent genius who I hope finds all the happiness in the world!! I know you are a celebrity and your music has helped me so much this last year!! My doctors are saying that I might not make it but I never feared death and I didn’t fear life so for me I think it all balances itself out!! I really really miss my family and community ....It almost feels like a part of me died since all this went down. The Grateful Dead is a part of my life that only a Deadhead would understand and I have high hopes that we all are able to be together again really soon. I wish the best for everyone and see y'all out there on the road someday sooner than later....(~);}
Looking forward to the next show at The Gorge Amphitheater, Washington state. Please don't forget about us in the Pacific Northwest whether at a Live Nation venue like The Gorge or an independant venue like you are trying to support. I saw Jerry and the Dead on center field of the Portland Oregon horse racing track, when Jerry came in black shorts on a hot sunny summer day and Jerry looked like Angus Young of AC/DC and absolutely rocked for an afternoon show. But...camping at The Gorge for the weekend is tough to beat. Look forward to your next show with the boyz
I always wanted Jer to sing Fatman in a Bathtub. @John, if you do that in Colorado, I would consider it fair pay back for the hail storm you put me through in Boulder.
Wonderful World-Sam Cooke. I heard Jerry sing that at the Warfield as Jerry Garcia Band. Be great to hear Dead and Company do that one...if not already.

Would kill to see a dead and co show! Funny how John is telling Gary and David how to listen to the dead though. I dig his enthusiasm but come on John that's like their job. 😆
Kyle, I will reassure you that I didn't feel like John was trying to explain to David and me how to listen to the Dead. He KNOWS that we know - and in fact has been extremely generous in crediting us with helping him learn about the music over the past five years. I think he was just sharing his own learning and listening process, and I really loved his thoughts on it.
I appreciated his humbleness speaking about the music, and how he has come to understand the structure of the songs. I loved the way he described his ongoing process.
When was the last time you listened to dead and co? Earlier stuff you could say that, but anything from the past couple years you can tell he knows what he’s doing and he definitely fits in now
Eli Hintz I just don’t dig his voice or his vocal inflections. Like tv ad music. His guitar playing too seems like copied from blues 101 classes with some dexterity but no feel flow. It’s just my take. I’ve heard his pop music and heard his versions of Dead tunes. Not my bag. I’ve tried. Even went to a show at Citi Field. Meh. I’d rather leave it. No need to keep the nostalgia tour train in my opinion.
