Shakuhachi Lesson #38 The End of Notes and Developing Kan Tone

Hey man, I just have to say thank you so much for doing this. I'm going to rant on myself so please forgive. I grew up studying Martial Arts. Tae Kwon Do, and Iaido. I had a 3rd grade teacher who taught me the Cha No Yu. We learned about the Sengoku Jidai in 3rd grade and held a real Nihonto as well. As an adult, I am a cage fighter, a food service manager, a father, and husband. I have also studied music my entire life and I LOVE a challenge. I play piano, saxaphone, clarinet, oboe, guitar, violin, ocarina (oh wow. a clay recorder. Rock on bro.....),drums, and NOW, shakuhachi. I have played many difficult instruments, but so far, none have had such a gate keeper as the shakuhachi. Producing any sound requires determination and focus. going beyond that, absolutely requires guidance. I have a $42 PVC shakuhachi. Some notes are off a bit but it fits the bill and with your lessons, I am slowly learning. One day, I'll be too old for fist, and swords, but you have given me another way to express myself and you do it so well and I just can't thank you enough.

That was very helpful!!! Thank you! 😃🎶 Ending the notes with moving my head to the left works great! I also very much like practicing going from kan to otsu and trying to get a nice round kan tone. I am currently not able to get to daikan, not yet! 😊
