The only reason they are exalting the designs in Hades 2 is because supergiant is a somewhat "woke" company out of SF. Dont get me wrong, I really like the studio, but they do pander to the tumblr crowd, albeit not in a destructive way. That's literally the only reason. They have "muscle mommy" characters and lots and lots of gay characters. That's why they choose to praise them, because these designs and characters please lesbians, straight women etc. But because stellar blade's design primarily appears to target straight men, it's unacceptable. Because the male gaze is something they want to erase. It all extends to wanting to restrict men's agency in general, if you think about it. Primarily because, as much as they say that they dont care about men, they feel very insecure about men's preferences for women.

My theory is that these people probably think that Stellar Blade's MC does not have enough depth and agency to the story that they think her only purpose is to be objectified while Aphrodite has a lot of character in the game through the voice lines and personality that no amount of objectification can reduce Aphrodite to an object because she's already that well defined as a character already, plus it helps that her sexuality is a core part of her lore and personality similar to Bayonetta.

Honestly, I think it’s even simpler than that. One’s Western, the other’s Eastern. The only time they consider Eastern “safe-horny” is when it’s convenient for them to do so. It wasn't designed to be political, but they are treating it as if it is, simply because it refuses woke politics. They are effectively telling game devs across the world "You need to have 50% of your characters be black or gay or trans or you're an ismphobe" - if you ignore them, you are implicitly rejecting their ideology. You are making a political statement even if your game isn't inherently political. It would not be possible for a AAA western game to release today with only straight white people in it, without having to defend themselves from accusations of racism and homophobia. Misogyny too if all the women were hot. And in this defense, ultimately the core of what will be said is "We don't agree with your ideology and we don't feel the need to make our game cater to it."
