Shane Mosley Says Oscar De La Hoya Was Better Than Mayweather 

People don’t understand what they mean when they say that oscar was out of his prime when he fought Floyd... yes they are basicly the same age but Oscar really declined quickly once he hit his 30’s and anybody that has seen him fight since the 90’s and early 2000’s can vouch for me also... the difference was that Oscar was in a lot of wars early on in his career without saving them for later like Floyd and he also took a lot of punishment in those fights which slows a fighters reflexes among other things, and also he really was partying and drinking and doing drugs around his 30’s and he lost a lot of his hunger cause of how big he made it in terms of fame and money, now maybe that was his fault but still a lot of other all time greats suffered the same fate and we give them a pass (guys like Whitaker and Leonard and Tyson and Duran and Chavez and many others). Those things were his fault but at the same time you know if he was younger he would have fought better cause not everyone ages as well as Floyd does, Floyd ages very well... in other words Yes de la hoya was past his prime when they fought and all you dumbasses have to accept it because it is a fact not an opinion.

People forget, Floyd learned how to market himself from his time at Top Rank with Oscar while Oscar was on top.

Some people in the comment section are so pissed off at Mosley for what he said about Oscar being better than Floyd but he has been in the ring with the best and has earned his right to that opinion unlike these keyboard gangsters who have probably never laced them gloves on.

Oscar made the mistake to fight pac man at the time he was allot older and out of his prime,still in both of there primes pac man had no chance against the Olympic Oscar

Prime de la Hoya was one of the true greats.I've never seen a boxer fight any many Hall of Fame fighters and despite the 6 losses on his resume he easily could have got the nod vs Trinidad,Mosley 2 most taught he won also and 1-2 others.

I think Shane makes a good case in the fact that he said if all of those fighters were in their primes, Oscar De la Hoya would win. The fa t is the only time any of these fighters faced each other in their primes was Mosley vs De la Hoya. De la Hoya was too old and drained when he fought Pacquiao and Floyd was just hitting his prime when De la Hoya fought him and almost beat him had he been more active in the later rounds. Age and cutting too much weight matters if one has ever boxed before or wrestled. Until you do it to know what it's like, you won't understand what Mosley is saying about this.

Oscar has a lot of losses on his record. He did fight everyone and always wanted to challenge himself against the best so I definitely give him props for that . He jumped around weight classes and fought the best guys .Floyd did also though he fought a lot of guys that were bigger than him. Oscar was a lot bigger than him and he came up and beat him if it were the other way around and Floyd was fighting a smaller guy everyone would have criticized him like they did when he beat Marquez. When you are that great and talented you cannot win with the public they will always hate on you and criticize your every move.

I respectfully disagree with Sugar on this one. Floyd would win if all were in their prime at 147. The Floyd that fought Gatti would be too much for Manny and Oscar. IMO. I just can’t see Floyd losing to these guys. For people that keep saying that Oscar almost beat Floyd while he was out of his prime, isn’t looking at the whole picture. 1. Floyd was the one on a disadvantage in that fight more than Oscar was. - Floyd had on heavyweight gloves - Floyd fought at 154lbs - Oscar only won 3 rounds that night, but that wicked judge was probably hired by Golden Boy to get him 7 rounds. Max Kellerman called him out that night. Most of Oscar’s punches was either blocked or missed. So it was a split decision because of that dumb judge, NOT because he really was winning. It wasn’t even close. According to concubox stats, Oscar got whooped, even while he was at a comfortable weight and whore his comfortable gloves, fighting in his in front of his fans. So Oscar looked really bad going down to fight Pacquiou. So Floyd probably would have killed Oscar all night coming down that low.

How do you beat what you cannot constantly hit? DHL, Manny and Mosley were punchers - regardless of whether they were in their primes. FM doesn't allow you to hit him. Canelo was 23, as young as they come, and looked like a deer in headlights when boxing a man in his late 30s. What would a 27 year old FM have done to him? When an excellent puncher meets an excellent boxer, but your money on the skills, not the crowd pleasing power.

Love Shane and his career but Oscar at his best was ducking Floyd, as was he. Floyd was calling out these dudes back in the early to mid 2000s and they didn’t want to fight him. Of course the fights were made in 07 and then in 10 for Mayweather-Mosley. It would have been interesting to see those fights back when Floyd first started calling them out. I might have to give the edge to Floyd. Plus, Mosley was part of or under golden boy so he’s going to show some love for Oscar.
