The Los Angeles Lakers (16-17) were defeated Thursday night by a total of 28 points to rival San Antonio Spurs (13-18). This is the last game under the Staples Center name and second straight home loss for the Lakers. LeBron James and Russell Westbrook combined for 66 points and the Spurs were led by Keita Bates-Diop who scored a career high 30 points and 13 assist from Dejounte Murray. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss if this Lakers team can make the playoffs.

The Lakers aren’t making the playoffs? That’s literally the worst thing you can bet on at this point and time. With all their injuries, all their chemistry troubles and all their coaching troubles…THEYRE LITERALLY THE 6TH SEED IN THE PLAYOFFS WITH NO PLAY-IN AT THIS VERY MOMENT IN TIME. So the only way for them to miss the playoffs entirely? They’d have to literally start getting worst, and this Lakers team? Basically can’t get any worst. So if you think by the end of the year once they’ve added AD back and gotten more stability they’ll end up worst than they currently are without half their roster and 0 chemistry to fall off the cliff of missing the playoffs? Idk what to tell you

You know what sucks...? In 20-30 years time, a bunch of kids who never watched him play are gonna look back at old Westbrook stats, only look at points rebounds asissts (no advanced metrics) and probably try and argue that he is one of the absolute greatest players of all time lol. No, you have footage of how he played unlike the legends of the 60s and even 50s. Those things will never go away. Everyone will know he is a statpadding turnover machine and a borderline fraud who tricked everyone and should never have won that mvp for averaging useless triple doubles and be in nba top 75. To a certain extent I don’t feel bad for lebron because he wanted Westbrook. But honestly Westbrook hasn’t been that bad. I feel bad because he’s playin so well but role players aren’t doing a damn thing. But it’s also hard to feel bad because this is what happens when 3 players take up all the money. It was a double edged sword.

Westbrook hasn't been horrible but he doesn't exactly help the lakers either. His defense is terrible and he turns the ball over a lot. Lakers won the title because of their defense and they pretty much got rid of all of it.

Most of us knew when the trade happened it wasn’t going to work. But 15 games into the season it was confirmed. The very reason you got RW happened and couldn’t be 500 now it’s happening without AD. Not all on RW but he doesn’t help in the way they need.

I'm a Knicks fan. Still, the RW trade boggled my mind. There were so many other options that were available: Kyle Lowery, Demar Derozan, Buddy Hield, Patty Mills. Plus, it wasn't like the Lakers were that far off last year. They just couldn't stay healthy. I expected the Lakers to tweak the roster not to totally over-haul it. Then they get the worst fit imaginable at point guard which sucks up all the cap space and to make matters worse they fill up much of the remainder of the roster with over-the-hill veterans (which makes them atrocious defensively). If I didn't know better, I'd think James Dolan was now running the Lakers. Go Knicks!

Most of the Lakers fans didn’t know when the trade happened. They thought the exact opposite actually. That they would win it all this year. If you think I’m lying, check the comment sections on a lot of those videos from that time. Now Lakers fans will be lucky to even end up in the playoffs. 🤣

AD was supposed to be the man for the lakers, the number 1 scoring option, and he has dissapoint. There's not too much 3 point shooting either...

To all the Skip haters… Is he not being completely fair and rational? I’ve noticed this pattern when LeBron does poorly or his teams do poorly skip goes way easier on him. He could say LeBron‘s an idiot for allowing him to trade Caruso and Lonzo ball. Get Caruso and ball and some of the other guys like Kyle Kuzma were there they could still win a championship. This is what happened in Cleveland though... Lebron came back, traded away the youth for stars, it works for a couple years and then the talent well is dry and the roster is made up of mid level exceptions..... Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma, Hart, Jordan Clarkson and Caruso would make this an exiting team right now. AD couldve still come in free agency.
