I still can’t believe we got two Shantae games before we got Freedom Planet 2

Recently played The Pirate's Curse and now I want more from Shantae. Will get this for sure!

In my opinion, each Shantae game gets better with each installment. Hope WayForward can continue that trend. Easily my favorite game in the series. It pulls great aspects from each of the games before and even improves on them at points, like how the fusion dances are multipurpose (they're used for progression, but can also be used for the players' benefit.) Any complaints I have are small, and are very few. -They're actually pretty negligible.- (edit: given more thought, there are some aspects I wish could've been handled differently). Would greatly recommend this one, to anyone really. * As far as the map goes, I would've liked to be able to mark it up with different icons, considering all the little collectibles scattered around. First playthrough 100% took some time because I forgot where certain points of interest were located. Will likely play this three times straight before I put it down for a bit. I put over 200 hours into the Wii U and switch versions of HGH. I'm hopeful I can get that amount of enjoyment out of this one.

3 weeks ago youtube recommended me randomly a Shantae no damage run of all bosses, I clicked it and was just amazed by the art and cutscenes. It all looked so good and cute, so I thought about playing it. Took me 15-20 hours. Even though I was already spoilered, it was one of the funniest game playing this year, so I bought all the 3 Shantae games left on Steam. Hope we will get a Shantae 6 in a few years.

I've more recently got more into this series again. Sure, I played Pirate's Curse a while back, but I got back into it with Half Genie Hero when it became available on Games for Gold on Xbox (also, Pirate's Curse is going on there in a few days too, check it out if you can). Super stoked to start playing this game later today. The fluid gameplay of the pirate weapons and the dungeons in Pirate's Curse is something I kind of missed in HGH, so I'm glad they're making the best of both worlds here. Plus, while I do love the combination of models and hand drawn sprites in HGH, I think the hand drawn environments look miles better overall.

I am a little bummed that i wasn't able to get the collector's edition though, but i am still super happy i preordered it for the switch :) lol I was wondering what the monster cards were all about in the in the collector's edition and now it makes sense lol

The only things that I found disappointing were that the gastrodrill and frog were essentially the same with only like one or two differences and that there wasn't really anything in the game besides the main story. But other than that, it was fuckin amazing.

You can tell with this game Shantae's powers gain several upgrade, instant transformation to animals and dance to very OP transforms like heal yourself or damages all the enemies in screen, of course is was with the help of the other half-genies, but really feels like progression.

Much better than Half Genie Hero. Because the game is back to it's metroidvania roots.

I believe every word of what this man said, because it's exactly what I wanted to hear! The music is definitely more atmospheric than punchy, but 'Water Lilly's Den' and the Arena Town themes stand out clearly as gold standard tracks! Honestly the only real downgrade on this front is the boss battle theme not using the motifs of the previous 4 games, but the twists and turns of the plot make for an interesting title none-the-less!

I've wanted to play shantae but never got around to it.

It totally makes sense that the sound track arguably took a slight hit, the composer who usually did all the Shantae music didnt return for Seven Sirens.

Literally died once for not knowing the frog can't swim in poison and you have to refresh the water... Liked it a lot but... Just one death?! I wish it was more challenging...

Anyway, is it the best Shantae game or just close to Pirate's Curse as many people say to be the best one?

Alright, I'm convinced. I'll buy my first shantae game. Does it matter what order I get the games in? The story seems simple enough that I wont have to worry about missing important story aspects.

I think overall as a fun quirky platformer Pirates Curse is the best Shantae game. Hearing how easy and short this one is after the very easy Half Genie Hero is kinda a turn off. However the real selling point of Shantae is usually the cool gimmicks, colorful characters and slapstick humor which is present in all of them! For that reason each of them can still be worthwhile if challenging gameplay isn't your top priority.

Maybe Music of Seven Sirens is not that great as previous games' music was, but at least it has three veeery good tracks.

Collecting the trinkets would of been better if they showed what was and wasn't collected in said area. You know it's bad when I need to look at guides on the internet to make sure I have paved over that area.

Dude!!! i can see it now. if they make Part 7 of Shantae? they need to make it in a story of Crossovers with the first time ever seen? of Super Heroes, like each hero has a huge world to explore and defeat their nemesis as Shantae for the first time ever and her friends COLLIDE with the heroes of the universe!! heroes like: MEGA MAN, SONIC, MARIO, LINK, SAMUS, KID ICARUS, ARTHUR, BEETLE JUICE SHOVEL KNIGHT, GRAVITY CIRCUIT, RYU (Street Fighter), TERRY BOGARD (Fatal Fury) and KAT (Gravity RUSH) and more that it becomes a world collision where even the heroes are confused as to why they're their, and Shantae being the only one that can send them home would be an amazing, idea for the first time ever using the characters sorta like Kingdom Hearts where you travel that world and defeat each heroes, Nemesis and restore that universe trust me that would be the BEST adventure ever in history, for a Shantae game. not to mention, we're getting a Part 2 which was never released on GBA and now is being brought to Switch. the idea of this chapter would definitely make HYPENESS a thing of the past.

I love this game but one issue I had was the transformations. I liked in the previous games how I could transform and stay transformed as long as I wanted, rather than immediately reverting back after the move ends. The newt and tortoise were ok and the octo served its purpose at least, even if I prefer the monkey, elephant, and harpy forms respectively, but the drill and especially the frog just flat out sucked. They were literally just keys to progression gates and nothing else

I'm still traumatized to find out the truth about Squid Barron.

just for the record, i didn't play Shantae games just because it had Metroidvania style added elements to the game.... i played Shantae, because it has Potential to be the NEXT! MEGA MAN, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Bros. Type Level Adventure. and it shows.

I heard this game is too easy, Thats something i hated from Half genie hero. How does this game compare to Pirates curse? thats the only shantae game i have completed more than 3 times.

I love almost everything about the new game . Only one dislike that i do not like . I Really Do not like the pacman movement when it comes to swimming . It really Ruins underwater exploration for me . I do not feel the same freedom As i did with mermaid. However The game is still GOOD ! Just swimming as i said made me really sad . Swimming Felt like a step back to me sadly and was really frustrating to swim . I loved everything else !

How come mine crash after 1h of gameplay? (when speaking to the black lady with a steam goggle after getting two lifeforms) edit : I've found the reason. The canadian french text made the game crash but the french option doesn't.

I never replay games so $30 for one play-through may be a little steep.

Can we just talk about how messed up killing baby squids for hp is... Considering their faces make it look like they are similar in species to Squid Baron who is sentient... I love Shantae but that just rubs me the wrong way

My only big complaint to this game (besides the fact that you fight risky too many times and that gross looking intro.) Is some of the character designs. They are WAY too sexualized, I get that they're belly dancers and they do show a lot of skin, but there are tops that do cover enough skin so it's easier on the eyes, while still staying true to a belly dancing look. Plus it kinda takes some character away to be honest. (SPOILER AHEAD!!) And there's this one joke in the game where Shantae and Sky are in stereotypical female rpg "armor" and they mention that it shows more skin than it protects. That would've been drop dead hilarious... if they weren't doing this to begin with. Like with Harmany, Shantae herself, and her Earthquake transformation (seriously wtf were they thinking with that look?). To be honest, I cringed at that joke. But other than that, this is still a solid game and I would recommend it as well. I just wish the designs were more tasteful.

I loved half genie hero and my only gripe was having to pause and dance anytime I wanted to do a quick change, so this sounds perfect! Already ordered my physical copy and shantae plushy from limited run!

i have Smash and i play it one's and never again but if they'll add her as a playable charter I'm going to play it and main her for sure. love the review and you get a new sub!
