@ThorMaximus
@ThorMaximus 4 года назад
As he said, he quickly realized he couldn’t outskill Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, etc. (no criticism-they were truly elite) but he could overpower them - so he became so strong few could even give challenge. I used to imagine if I were 6’10” how I would defend him. Wouldn’t back down, but would “let” him win post position & even score, just to mess up his timing & expectations-the way DL set up OL. No chance to overpower all game, but strategic pick spots.

But how many guys can destroy in the post? There's a few guys that can be effective go-to options, but just because someone is tall that doesn't mean they're gonna kill guys. Shaq expects all 7 footers to play like him but he was a unicorn. For guys that aren't gifted post threats, it's become more efficient for them to be floor spacers or rim runners. I love watching guys post up, but you really have to be great at it now for your team to go to you consistently.

Shout out to you Shaquille O'Neal oh, and my condolence to your little brother Kobe Bryant may he rest in peace😇🙏. Yes players today don't realize, how important and dominant, a center can be in the paint, obviously besides scoring, a guarantee such strategic way of getting your opponent in foul trouble. As a big man having the ability to shoot outside has its advantages, but to be a skilled inside player, as you stated, should be unstoppable, with the additional advantage of passing out to a open man. The mindset of the play it today in a sense is somewhat weak because they don't want to work hard and their positions. Big man want the opportunity to handle the ball and shoot outside there's a balance. Once again my condolence to Kobe Bryant may he rest in peace and blessings and prayers go out to the families🙏.

Shaq is right on point about analytics. Analytics help you win the most games in the long run, like in regular season. But if you really have to win this one game, for example game 3, or game 7 of the series, then no amount of analytics is going to save you.
@withalittlehelpfrom3
@withalittlehelpfrom3 Год назад
You gotta take the shots they give you in those scenarios. If they give you wide open three because you're not a good regular season shooter, but you're in the playoffs and know you can hit them, you'll make them pay!

I will say this: That Orlando Shaq that played with Penny, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson who was around 275 would dominate the NBA today. Too fast, too strong and too athletic for any of these bigs to deal with. He would foul most of their front lines out and average about 40 a game. That Orlando Shaq was on another level....Sheesh!!

Agree with Shaq 100%. I miss his glorious days. After Shaq there's been really no big man. Not even Dwight Howard. Greg Oden gave me high hopes. He played like a dominant big man, and was built like one too. What a shame that he's never had the chance to shine. Nowadays NBA is just 3 point contest all day every day.

*Shaq vs today’s “big men”* Shaq vs Embiid: Joel would cry for injury after Shaq gives him the Chris Dudley treatment every possession. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Jokic: Diesel would shoulder Jokic so hard that he would flop all the way back to Serbia. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Towns: KAT is offensively skilled but his post game and especially his defense just ain’t it. BBQ Chicken Shaq vs Gobert: Rudy has height, he has length but he’s wayyyyy too skinny. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Davis: I like AD but you’re too small and soft for the Diesel. Just stick to shooting jump shots. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs McGee: funniest matchup of all time. JaVale don’t want smoke with his daddy. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Allen: He has a fro, he’s blocked superstars and he wears a headband but you ain’t no Ben Wallace. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Adams: This is actually a great matchup. Superman vs Aquaman. I’m leaning towards Shaq tho. BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Tucker: Do y’all really honestly think 6’5’ with no hops PJ Tucker is checking Shaq? BBQ Chicken. Shaq vs Green: Draymond just stfu you donkey. You ain’t shutting down nobody. BBQ Chicken.

He certainly is one of the more dominant offensive centers in the post Shaq era and had far more moves than Dwight Howard but the problem with Cousins was that he was a very poor defender. No matter how much he was scoring, he was giving up as much if not more on the other end. It’s why he’s been a net negative for every team he played for. Not to mention that he often oversettles for jumpshots (which he’s not that good at) and turns the ball over at a ridiculous rate. He’s one of the most overrated players in the modern NBA and puts up the most empty volume stats out of all the stars that I’ve seen.

shaq's point about unskilled guys in the post skewing the analytics is so true. post-ups and mid-ranger jumpers are not bad shots, if the player taking them is good at them. just like a three is a bad shot if the guy taking them can't shoot threes. problem is there are no skilled bigs anymore, thanks to aau. it's a shame.
