Shaq did a drop step but couldn’t shoot with his left hand on the left side. Yao blocked him 3 times. Yao can shoot from mid range and he is a good free throw shooter. Advantage Yao.
@@mimicmageobviously playing in China, the overseas player are taught to play finesse as Yao mention a while, a excellent around player, yet Shaq wasn't great at ft shooting due a broken wrist as a teen, still he a complete player on O & D, particularly the Orlando days and the most naturally psychically dominant player to ever play 🏀
which equaled 6 points he stopped from happening. Believe thats an honorable respect for another player after that. Don't know how many others could've blocked shaqs shot especially 3 times in a row.
You do realize Yao was a rookie right? And he blocked Shaq 3 times in a row, and scored on him twice in a row. Against a prime Shaq coming off a 3 peat. Needless to say, with time, training and experience, Yao could have went up against him full force. Pity he was out due to injuries but was still locked in as a Hall of Famer which is extremely impressive achieved in his very short career.
@@archangel323118 I'm a Laker fan and you're absolutely right. A rookie doing that against the most dominant player the NBA has ever seen in his prime is something no one has done besides Yao.
Even tho, the fact there there are some parts of game footage on which Shaq was NOT dominating is this rare. So big up for Yao, but Shaq still one of the best center without any doubt
Destroyed? Ahhh if your going to tell the story you need to tell the whole story! Yao pretty much got dominated in that game! I remember Shaq givin Yao some facials in that first game!
Watch the full game highlights for a more accurate depiction of this game. Shaq had at least 2 nasty dunks against like 3 Rocket players late in the game. Yao and the rockets got this game but it wasn't like a blowout as I recall. It was like a one or two possession game. Really good game!
This is a terrible example of “imagine what Wilt Chamberlain would do” seeing as Shaq dominated this game and dominated Yao in general. Are you saying Shaq would dominate Wilt too? Stop using RU-vid shorts as a reference point that only tells half a story.
@@matthewanthony4606 Uh…. Wilt was a far greater athlete more dominant, more skilled, a way better defender, rebounder, scorer and taller than Shaq. He was known to block people from crazy distances. Arnold also said Wilt is the strongest person he’s ever seen. Of course he’d whoop Shaq. Look up Shaq and Wilt standing next to eachother.
@@matthewanthony4606 wilt no doubt was a all around better player than shaq he had to go easy on purpose because he was afraid of how bad he would hurt his opponents! He dunked the ball one time and it broke the defenders foot who was under the net he could bench 600 plus pounds shaq at his best couldn't bench 350! Not to mention he could shoot his athleticism was of the charts he could shoot free throws he could do it all in so many sports yes its hands down not just from a RU-vid short but from hearing from many top players like bill RUSSELL Kareem etc he was incredible he owns almost all the records by a long shot!! There's no debate all you have to do is watch him playing when he was young and in his prime!
I was 13 when this game was played and I remember it being THE GAME of the year and had so much hype leading up to it. The game lived up to it and more! Yao’s 3 straight blocks, Shaq turning on full playoff diesel mode afterwards, Steve Francis’ 3 to tie almost at the buzzer, and then my favorite Yao running back on defense joyfully leaping down the court like a kid knowing they had sealed the win. I went to see him live against the bulls in Chicago his rookie year and the stadium was 65-70% Chinese American citizens at their first NBA game. I learned a lot of cheers they had for him when he played for the Shanghai Sharks and any time he even touched the ball the place went nuts. Was a great experience!!
Yep it was like that at first, then the refs let Shaq go on his usual offensive fouls cascade not calling a single elbow and it was over, I saw that game
When you’re great and somebody gets the better of you for 2 minutes in a 2 hour game then videos like this are made. Shaq out scored, out rebounded , out assisted , out steal and blocked Yao in practically every game they played together, and most importantly Shaq is 4-1 in the play offs vs Yao. It doesn’t get more dominant than that.
I hated that Yao Ming didn't have a longer career due to injuries. The Rockets was my favorite team during the time when they had Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady even though they both stayed injured and didn't play together a lot. I have always been a fan of teams with dominant centers back to the days when I first started following the NBA and watching Patrick Ewing in the New York Knicks. After Patrick Ewing retired and they broke up my Knicks team I didn't have a team for a few years but I started following the rockets when they had Steve Francis and then I really started following them when they got Yao Ming. I was hoping that he had a long career but he was always injured. Now I'm following the San Antonio Spurs with Victor Wembanyama And I'm really hoping that Victor doesn't have the same injury problems that you did because the Spurs is my number two The Lakers is my number one team, but as soon as LeBron James retires the Spurs is going to be my number one team if Victor stays healthy.
Earning his respect?? Shaq mocked him for being Asian, he cried like a baby that Yao was too tall, even though before Yao Shaq was too tall for other players. There's videos of these. Respect for Yao he didn't talk nasty about him and just played his best. Shaq was just a bully and he got shut down.
