Thank you so much Helene! I hoe you give this beautiful Lotus a go. I loved this vibrant violet with the soft blue (cerulean) Play with your favorite color combinations, happy painting and mostly have fun!
It's so helpful how you actually show and explain how you paint in detail. I've learned so much about technique from you! This may be a silly question, but could you show how you "wash and rinse" your brush on camera? I also appreciate that you offer the drawings of your flowers, that helps me a lot, since I'm not great at drawing. Thank you!
You are so welcome! It is how I learned best as well, so naturally how I teach. Im so happy it works for you too. I will definitely show that for you, I have in some videos, but maybe more often~ I have my little ceramic waterwell, and I thoroughly wash my brush with the water on one side, then rinse it good, scraping it alongside of well till its clear. So important because watercolors are very translucent and if you don't you will carry the water to your next color and can cause a dull muddy result. After rinsing I dab off my brush on a paper towel as well and can see if it is clear and clean before going into my next pigment. I hope that helps~ Happy painting friend. You inspired me to share a short video on the basics like this for beginners xo
You are so welcome! it a fun technique I’ve used it for decades, It made blending so easy for me. Have fun and I hope to continue to give you easy and fun tips and techniques.🎨🌸

Good morning. I have never been a big fan of purple but I must say you made a fan out of me. I think the blue did it. It's always so nice to have something new to try. It will make me step out of my box with this color.
Good morning Ann. Thats why I went here. I LOVED it in combination with the light blue. and just a tiny touch of Opera Rose/Quin Magenta. What else I love is the complimentary colors purple andgreen which always create a beautiful color palette. Im so happy you are going to try a new color palette, its fun right?
I'm glad I watched this one. I was so close to give up on watercolors today. Everything I tried I failed. But your video gave me hope it is easy to follow and will definitely try it. Thank you so much
Glad I could help! Watercolors is all about techniques unique to this medium. Once you get those, you will find it to be the most beautiful and magical medium there is~ I hope I can continue to in spire you, and Happy painting.
Thank you! Yes! You CAN do it, it is just learning and practicing the brushstrokes, there are just a few basic ones, I use over and over. Practice and warm up a lot, and you will develope that wonderful muscle memory and be painting florals beautifully in no time~ Most of all have fun and enjoy :-) Florals are imperfect and beautiful.
Perfect! I do the same Tina, I watch things a few times, then I go in to paint it. Im so glad you are going to play with this. If you wold like me to draw for you just shoot me an email. I drew this freehand and forgot to scan it :-) Have fun gf
Thank you so much Sue, Im looking forward to see you soon! You will do great with this tutorial. Make sure and grab the drawing (I linked in the description) xo

Hi Debbie, I`ve never done "flowers" before but after watching your Tutition videos you`ve now really inspired me to give them a try . I`m going to try them for a few months and see how I get on doing them as your tuition is outstanding and I love the way you name your colours in full, and what brush sizes you intend to use and throughout tell us everything your doing step by step. It all helps us learners immensely . I just love your blending and "translucent "style in another Video of yours I watched recently , so yes its lift of time & all systems go. PS.Out of interest have you done a bunch of Sweet Pea flowers painting Video at all ?
Good morning Tommy, Im glad you enjoyed my tutorial(s) and teaching style, its how I learned best as well. I love the unique characteristics of watercolors from its ability to be translucent to its vibrant, acrylic like qualities. Its pure magic for me :-) I have done sweet peas here is a tutorial for you. I will do them again soon, as I love painting them (even though I Cant seem to get them to grow here in California :/) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xDV5A3CKF2I.htmlsi=Bw5Id_Z0YsQ3zrJ2 Have fun!
yes sweetpeas are very heat sensitive and many varieties struggle in hot weather . Can I assume you have tried Lathyrus vestitus, commonly called the "Wild Sweet Pea " in California I believe . You should have luck growing the "Cupani" sweet peas variety , they are reasonably good in hot weather countries as long as you "tend" them . Soak the peas for 24 hours before planting to help them germinate Make sure they never dry out too much in the soil, so keep the soil moist in a hot country or they will die on you. Happy Gardening , best wishes, Tom. @@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy
I have not tried those, I will definitely look them up. Interesting, You are a wealth of good information, now I am inspired :-) I had given up on sweet peas... Now to search for them on internet and nurseries. I also am ready to paint another style of sweet pea soon! Happy gardening and painting most of all have fun~
Debbie. So glad i found you. You’re an excellent teacher. Im going to try this (again) tomorrow. Your technique of painting and then using a damp brush to pull out the color is excellent ..unfortunately im having trouble with teh consistency of paint…often it’s too dry….or too wet….lol. That’s ok. I’ll try and try again. Thank you!!!!!!
Hi~ Yes, that is something you have to practice and get that feel for it, Here is one of my videos, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UkKxUG-TsCI.htmlsi=Z4HenHmOE-03-AS3 The more you practice, I promise you will get better. The key is applying the paint/water ratio so that it is glistening on the paper, no puddling, or paint moving, it is just shiny. Then you can go in with only a damp brush and pull out the color. I hope that helps, You will GEt it, and it does get easier, once you get that perfect blend you will get so excited!
Sometimes I paint from photos I take. This one I hand sketched because years ago I painted literally dozens of these for commissions, cards and things. If you would like the sketch I can sketch it out and send to you via email. DebbieWalkerArt@gmail.com :-)
Hi! it is great isnt it. Well I use mostly the Meeden palettes, but this one was a wodnerful creator I found on IG. She has created numerous palettes for me. (numerous!) Here is her info. Let her know I sent you , im not affiliated but she doesnt always make these because they are time consuming. Here you go! I purchased my second set of Mei Liang paints, hoping to get the exact colors you are using here. I don’t seem to have the beautiful red violet and the fresh purple is missing, as is a sap green. Your painting sings.
You’re right about the sap...I’m not concerned by the sap. It is easily matched, but the fresh purple is missing and the red violet is very different from what I see in your piece. I will try to make do with Mungyo and Grabie. Thanks for your help.
Any tips for getting clean lines at the edge of the petals? The edges of my petals are all fuzzy. Even the edges of my leaves are fuzzy and not crisp. 😢
So interesting I thought I answered this... hmmm so. if this is a duplicate pardon.. When painting wet into a wet area, you will get soft edges. If you like those crisper edges paint wet into dry paper or paint. This will give you much crisper lines and good for details. Also Hot pressed paper will give you crisper lines. Here is a playlist I created for some of these techniques as well. Hope it helps! ru-vid.com/group/PLGvRyB1lQxykLi0zaDPArWVOjQ-_Hz3zA&si=VLNz09H9cOcgQgKs
@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy Yes, yes I am painting wet onto dry paper. I'm wondering if I just don't have the experience yet of knowing which water-to-paint ratio works best for achieving crisp edges, so the water ends up bleeding, even though the paper is dry. Thank you for replying!
I have a beautiful porcelain two-well water dish and I use the right side to wash my brush and the paint off, and the left to then rinse my brush. This is the wel I use and lvoe it made beautifully. 2 WELL WATER Amazon link amzn.to/3KsHzRMm Meeden Direct Link - (For outside of US) bityl.co/KHILbityl.co/KGgQ Because watercolors are so light and transparent, if your brush is not completely clean of paint, you will carry that paint color into the next, and you can end up with a dirty result. I hope that helps Happy painting!
Hi Lois! I use two different ones, the small journals, which I have a library of past years, labeled, and cataloged for reference. And many times I use the larger 9X12 Artisto pads because its easier for all of you to see what im doing. Watercolor Pads 9x12 amz.run/7Jep And Watercolor Pads 5.5x8.5 amz.run/7Jeo I believe here it was my smaller pads with the spiral rings..
If you email me I will send you either the drawing I offered for this for free, or the link for the 5.00 Tutorial Companion kit with the drawing, color swatch, Original painted image, warm ups and brushstrokes to practice, and go along with the tutorial. Debbiewalkerart@gmail.com Happy painting Im happy you are going to give this a try!
Hi Jean, interesting, yes, normally I would make a shadowy color. I am quite spontaneous, (in case you hadnt noticed lol) and may have just missed that in the particular area your referring to~ Darn, lets see if I can help. Here is the link. Ill look for your request and of course approve you. What is your fb name? Here is the link. facebook.com/groups/781794610217892/
What is your policy on painting your exercises and sharing them with friends? I did this beautiful lotus and two people asked for a print, my daughter and her friend. They would not be for sale. I’ve been doing watercolor for over 20 years and never went mercantile, and I do not want to violate anyone’s copyright or ownership. Thanks.
@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy Yes! It was so fun. I tried to get as close to your colors as possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being such a dedicated and generous teacher!
