Thank you so very much Debbie for focusing your love and talents on the beginner, I have watched many a "beginner" watercolor tutorial and without a doubt yours are the best. You break it all down from brushstrokes to water amount to mixing colors to sketching in such a calm and joyful manner. If you are a beginner and needing a teacher who knows how to teach effectively then this channel is for you!
Thank you Kelley! I’m So very happy and feel fulfilled hearing what I love so much shows.. Hi Debbie, I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm 70yrs young and I haven't painted with watercolors since high school! I love the softness of watercolor so I thought I'd give it a try again. I appreciate you sharing your talents with the rest of us who are eager to learn. You make it look so easy and fun. Thank you!
Wonderful! Im so glad, welcome back~ You certainly made my day today as you are the reason I share I Hoe I can support and continuie to inspire you as step back into wateroclors. For me they are truly magical, relaxing, and so, so fun! Happy painting friend!
Debbie, since it’s Cyber Monday I thought I would order some supplies. As far as the brushes, you recommended the Princeton and the Dugato brand. Dugato has two sets. One is a 10 pc round and the other is a 12 pc variety with rounds, flat, oval, etc. Which do you think would be best for a beginner (again!)? I have the Princeton Velvetouch round #6 and #8 on my wish list too. Thank you so much!
Hi Sharon, Yes the Dugatos are wonderful. I just added to my Amazon list the variety Dugato brush set, which I want to order. I think they are much more versatile. And have been using my Dugato round brushes for 6 months and they are still performing exceptionally wel. Happy painting friend. Good for you for the Princeton Velvetouch 8 and my other fave, 6 short long. Heres my Amazong picks if you want to take a peek. These are affiliate links no cost to you I get about 3% I hoep you find what you need Sharon. amzn.to/3T0cUjy
Wow, the set of three Artisto pads is $56 on Amazon here in Australia 😱 You guys have it so good over there in the States. Never mind. I won’t let that stop me. Love your videos, Debbie. Thanks for your happy-go-lucky, friendly style of teaching. Love it. 😻💜
I have been hearing that from a few of you. I will have to come up with a good alternative for you all :/ Not sure why that is. I also Love the Meeden and use it a my second choice its 100% cotton and on a block. Here is aa link you can take a peek. See what you think. (I love this company as well they are very responsive and professional) Https://bityl.co/KHIO I hope this helps I hate to see you hae to pay such a high cost to enjoy watercolors~ (I am an affiliate and receive a small percentage from your purchase with no additional cost to you) Im happy you enjoy my teaching style, I like to be a happy plae for you to come to and have fun :-)
Wonderful, Im so happy you found me. Happy painting friend, I think you will LOVE watercolors and I Hope to be a good source for inspiration and tips, techniques! Happy painting friend
As a beginner, I have to agree with Debbie. Paper is most important! I have been there done that with the cheap paper! Lol! I couldn't understand why I would have my paper would leave piles. And the colors wouldn't blend well. Thank you Debbie for teaching me~ much love ❤️✝️🙏🏻
I almost gave up on watercolor and then I found you!! You brought me over the hump I was at and I am now creating art I can say is beautiful. I can’t thank you enough.
Wonderful! I LOVE to hear that, and exactly why I started this and have taught for years, Makes me so happy to be able to take the intimidation out of watercolors and offer some tips simplified, Welcome and thrilled to have you hear!
THANK YOU for the paper tip! It’s great paper… I used your link.. I hope it worked. Arches isn’t in my “level” yet… in my mind.. it’s GREAT paper!!! They need to pay you. ❤
Yes, Arches is lovely paper, I used it a lot over the years for my commissions and pieces I was putting in boutiques etc. Now I think I would use the Meeden 100% cotton paper, it does really well too. Happy painting, friend, wish they would to! lol Im to new here I suppose and don't have that following they look for :-)
I just found you through a friend who just started with watercolors. I usually use acrylics but thought I'd try watercolor. Some "cheap" ones I got for fun were not satisfactory because the colors weren't vibrant enough and kind of weak, so I just bought some tubes (on sale at Michaels). I'm excited to see if I can pull off some of the things you have shown.
Welcome Beehumm!! I'm so glad you are giving watercolors a try, there is nothing like them for me. When you are ready the Paul Rubens, MieLiang pan set amzn.to/3s1LAWO US: bit.ly/3yvxgpF is a fabulous student/beginners set that is reasonable and very vibrant, you will see them in most of my tutorials. Happy painting and thank you to your friend for sharing my channel~
I’m so excited to have found this channel !! I always wanted to learn watercolor but the videos I have watched were very intimidating to me so I never tried it but omg for some reason this video came up in my notifications and it I really enjoyed how you teach, I will start watching all your videos and finally learning to watercolor !!! 💐thanks for sharing 🌹
That makes me so happy you truly made my day. I love working with beginners who may be a little bit intimidated and just making it fun and easy happy painting friend and you will just enjoy and love watercolors I bet do lots of warm-ups develop that muscle memory, and just play and have fun most of all.🌸🎨🖌️👻
I bought the things you recommended. Sadly being in Australia these were nearly double the price. The set of paints came but had different names than what was on the sheet inside. Being my first time using a set like this it threw me as I thought I had gotten the wrong colours. Worked it out eventually thankfully with the help from a friend in the fun painting group.
Oh so interesting, I do know sometimes the MeiLiang is a bit wonkie :-) You can always email me and I will do my best to help you, I have most likely ran into these things ! Enjoy, The MieLiang paints are wonderful, as is the Artisto. I know outside of the US the Artisto pads are a bit pricey and difficult to get. I use A LOT of Meeden as well, which is available worldwide, and they quite often have discounts. Here is a direct link if you like. go.meedenart.com/3QsDG1k Paul Rubens would be my second choice (I used Winsor Newton for decades and recently switched) I hope you are enjoying them! Happy paitning friend, most of all enjoy and have fun. :-)
Hi Debbie! Great little video. If this is your first time meeting Debbie, SHE IS A SUPER FANTASTIC TEACHER. SO HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. YOU WON'T BE SORRY. LOVE YOU DEBBIE🩷💜🩷🖌
You are welcome! My pleasure indeed. Im so gald these are helping , My passion is working with new artists and beginner watercolor artists specifically. Happy painting!
Great! I cant recommend them more. The three pack by the time you fill them up you will have a sense how you feel about watercolors. I think you will love them!
Hi Debbie. Thank you so much for these beginner videos. I’m new to watercolors & these have been my saving grace. However, I am confused about the difference between the wash cup & rinse cup & when I’m supposed to use which one. Could you please explain? Thank you! Tammy
Hi Tammy, I'm thrilled these videos are helpful you and hopefully fun! The wash and rinse cup (great question) each time you switch colors wash your brush good in the wash cup, Usually on right for me but doesn't really matter. then rinse on left till rinses clean. because water colors are so transparent you want to make sure all the paint is our before going into another color and you could create a muddy look. I change my water at least once a day as well. I hope that helps~ I love the Meeden well, because I have spilled way too many solo cups :-) Here's a link, It is an affiliate link and I earn a small percentage with no additional cost to you. Amazon link amzn.to/3KsHzRMm or Meeden direct link bityl.co/KHILbityl.co/KGgQ I hope that helps~
Makes sense now. Thank you so much, Debbie. I’m a visual person & your videos are excellent tutorials. I especially like that you include the colors you use. I’m so new at this & that is extremely helpful for me.
I am a visual as well, so I complete understand what your saying, its how I have learned best over the decades. I hope to bring you lots more fun and helpful tips!
Debbie - do you paint on the back pages? I read up that sometimes the back pages may be different texture. I also like the idea of using just the front page should I like the painting enough to perforate and give to someone. Appreciate you taking the time to create these helpful step-by-step series of tutorials for us newbies! Many thanks!
Great question, I very rarely paint on the back of my paintings. I feel like the texture and absorbency of the paper is different. It may not be that may just be me. The only time I paint on the back of another painting is when it’s just for pure practice warm-ups brushstrokes.. although if you were using a very high end, arches hundred percent cotton paper I’m sure painting on the back of another painting would be fine. I hope that helps, happy painting, and thank you for the question 🌸🎨
Hi Milena, I Noticed it is not available in some countries, interesting.. My second choice, I use frequently in my videos and myself, is the 100% cotton, Meeden. Direct outside the US, and they ship direct. I believe they also give a 10% discount on their site and possibly fre ship. (you might try code Debbie10) 📜Meeden Paper: 100% cotton a bit more $ than Artisto Meeden is a beautiful texture and quality and comes on a block which I love since I use a lot of wet on wet and theres no warping. I hope that helps. Here is my Italy store link too. I hope to visit one day and paint there~ www.amazon.it/shop/debbiewalkerart (this is an affiliate link for me, I earn 1-3% with no cost to you) Theres lot s of goodies in my store I share and I talk about often :-) Have fun!
Hi Debbie I got my new paints and I love them. Paper is next. I tried to send you a reply to your email and my message did not go through so I sent my message through comments. I hope you got it.
I hope I did too (being new here sometimes Certain things slip right by me!) how exciting to get that new set of paints right? Oh yes you will LOVE the Artisto paper! Yeah! I did read a few comments on what this "Super Thanks" is~ I also have a support ticket in to learn just how it came to be, and to get more information~ Thank you so much Ann! Im so happy to have you here with me and appreciate you taking the time to shed some light on these things~
