THIS.. In my opinion this is one of those things that can start bridging a player from the weird beginner/intermediate zone to a solid intermediate level player. I’ve been stuck for so long and I eat these type lessons up whenever I see them. Helps me continue to understanding how to sound more musical.

I respectfully disagree, you can train a monkey to follow boxes, these kind of videos feel like that friend who doesn't know how to play and asks you "hey man show me something simple?" -"sure thing, press here, there and there". This mentality will only get you that far, you need to know what you are currently playing and how it works in order to become something more than a bedrrom guitar player. A little bit of theory is the magic key, plus listening to Alot of music, especially music outside your favourite genres. My 2c My proof? a million guitar players on this site can play a lightning fast sweep picking arpeggio, but man, the vast majority of them unfortunately don't even have a vibrato. I don't wanna talk about improvisation skills and composing... :p
@RussC123
@RussC123 5 месяцев назад
@@BassCommunion Hey I totally get what your saying.. The key part of what I said was: “this is ONE of those things that can START bridging a player” .. by no means do I mean this is the end all be all. This is just one “idea” that gets a boring, stuck in a rut beginner working towards being melodic.. and I would sure hope that a player has basics like vibrato, sliding, bends already down before even this basic level of playing.

To even take it up a notch, use the 12th fret as your starting 0 point since that’s where the scale resets in a higher octave and you can use the entire neck.
@benjaminott6498
@benjaminott6498 Месяц назад
New to using the whole neck here. Do I need to bar the upper neck so I’m not in different octaves? Silly question likely.

This idea is soooo good! Using one shape to switch among scales of different keys. That immediately enriches the notes and sound I can easily play without thinking too much. For a long while, I stuck in one position at a time and playing without the mindset of chord progression. This sharing is definitely something that will change my life. How come nobody told me this simple concept during my whole guitar journey like it’s a top secret that most of the players won’t tell.

Very good discussion and demo of how to find and play major pentatonic scales and flow between chords in the progression. Thank you!
@civiprepper
@civiprepper 4 месяца назад
Thats so true. Forget the scales and getting boxed in a specific shape as a priority. Just follow the chords or even the progresiones around the root notes and then giving an intuitive answer lick and it will sound so much more emotional and unified as a musical song. Im not a great player, but bat well above my weight just doing this.

@brandonanege3292

Yep, this is it. I ever only need Major and Pentatonic scale for everything. To make it even better, take a single key, say C, learn the CAGE position and Pentatonic scale across each position. That gives you endless possibilities to play across the whole fretboard as you slide, hammeron, bend etc across different positions of the same Pentatonic scale. Once you've mastered this on one key, you can easily apply it on every other key.

Been playing guitar since the pandemic hit, started gigging a year after starting and I’ve been gigging a lot over the last year-solo, with 1-2 others, and with a full band. I’ve been stuck as a rhythm guitarist, partially because I haven’t practice soloing enough, but also because I could never demystify improvisation. This is the best concrete advice I’ve ever seen for improv/soloing. Can’t wait to practice this.

Yes, it's a "Eureka" moment for advanced beginners/early intermediate players. It actually helps expand your concept of the fretboard while also building on music theory. It all goes hand-in-hand. Some new "Eureka" moments are especially foundational and/or bridging to advanced concepts. This is a great lesson for that and also for sounding more musical in your solos or connecting runs. And while playing the melody line is fantastic, you can also replace some melody lines with random notes from these boxes, but playing the notes in the exact same rhythms and spots where you would play melody notes. It's a great improvisational tool.
