Toyota messed up on this. It’s ridiculous that 2 or more individuals cannot add the same vehicle. Technology is too advanced to go through this sort of madness….

Thanks Steve, this should be part of mandatory training for all Toyota / Lexus people. The mobile app SHOULD clearly explain during the add vehicle process the limitations. This should also be put on every window sticker until resolved. All IMO..

First, thanks for the explanation. I spent the first day and a half swearing at my new car trying to set up two profiles in our separate Toyota apps. Toyota's approach here is incredibly stupid, please urge them to correct this. The active profile should be based on the phone that's in the vehicle. If both users are in the car then one of the users should be specified as primary.

Thanks for the video! Was great to confirm my suspicions on the limitations. That said, I was able to get a second profile in the car by adding a driver under the Toyota website login (not available via app) with an email + phone number not associated with an account (tried to link an existing but that didn’t work). Once that driver signed up, they could then create a profile in the car by logging in on the mobile app then pressing the “refresh” button on discovered devices, with their profile showing up then. After the profile was created the other driver uses a shared login via the app for remote connect functionality (as you point out it only allows ya to connect one login), but at least now we can have two separate profiles on the car we can switch between.
@TrainerSteveClifford
@TrainerSteveClifford 10 месяцев назад
That's one way to do it. The other would be for each driver to have their own account plus a shared one. Log into the shared one to use the remote features. If you want you own profile in the car while using it, log out of that profile and into the personal one on the phone. Convoluted either way but it should also work. Good job on finding a work-around.

Useful! I left my iPhone at my workplace this afternoon, and tried to set up a second old iPhone at home to access my My Toyota app and the car (for charging), but I clearly need the first phone to do so. So, your information will be used tomorrow when I recover my main phone. Maybe your list of reasons for 'sharing' a My Toyota account should include similar "back-up" devices for temporarily "incapacitated" owners too.

It always seems like Toyota finds some way to miss the mark when it comes to technology (think of the epic failure of Entune!). We have had Mazda and GM vehicles that have no issue with multiple accounts. With the other manufacturers, there can only be one owner, but the owner can authorize other accounts to have full vehicle access and everyone can share at the same time). Toyota always seems to be #1 in mechanical reliability, but bringing up the rear in connected technology.

Hi, Steve. I've been having a few challenges with my new 2023 Highlander's multimedia system and none of the local dealers seem to have a clue. Glad I ran across your channel. What I want is for the current driver's profile to be automatically recognized and loaded (we both use CarPlay). After several unsuccessful set-ups, I've settled on the following: a) my wife and I share her account login in both of our Toyota apps, b) my wife has the one and only driver (primary) profile loaded in the car, c) my cell phone is set up as an alternate phone under her profile. When she drives, the car usually (but not always) recognizes her and loads her profile and CarPlay. When I drive, the car searches unsuccessfully for her phone and usually (but not always) finds mine and loads my CarPlay. Is there a better setup that will result in consistent and correct driver profile loading as we take turns driving the vehicle? Any idea when Toyota will add the function of having the current driver's seat/mirror settings also being recognized and loaded?
@TrainerSteveClifford
@TrainerSteveClifford Год назад
You've got it down pretty well for real world use. The only thing is, by having both of you sharing the login to the app, you only have one "profile" but still have multiple bluetooth devices. There is one weird workaround on that. Use the "Guest" profile when you get in the car by yourself. That way, you can at least have your own radio presets. Because the VIN can only be associated with one email address and therefore, only one Toyota account, there is no way for both of you to have all the remote functions AND have distinct profiles. As to the memory seats with the profile, that is not a software thing and I honestly don't know if the upper trim levels of the Highlander have it. I know the Tundra already does but only on models that have memory seats.

First of all thanks for your videos. The dealership helped us set up like you showed, but it’s unintuitive to have my account and profile as primary (because I deal with tech stuff) but then my wife’s phone is the primary device. So I thought they messed up. Anyways your videos helped to confirm it is just a wonky system and helped me understand how it “works”, but I still have some questions. Just got a grand highlander and I think it has the memory seats because when I switch to my primary profile, it’ll ask if I want use seat settings but when hitting “yes”, nothing happens. When I switch another profile, it doesn’t even prompt me the seat question, only when switching to the primary profile. How does seat settings based on profile work? Also, can the face detection and key fob link be used to change profiles in conjunction? So like my face is set up on my profile but Key fob is linked to another profile. With this combination if I’m in the car (with my face obviously thats set up on my profile) with the key fob (that’s linked to the other profile) it doesn’t change the profile automatically to anything and just stays on whatever the last profile is. If it was previously on my profile, it stays on my profile and doesn’t change to the one linked to the key fob. If it was previously on the other profile linked to the key fob, it doesn’t change to the profile set up with my face. Is it confused by the conflict of the profile assigned to my face and the profile linked to the key fob and just doesn’t do anything? Also, if I reset the whole system in the car to start over and set up profiles from scratch, what, if anything, do I need to do in the Toyota app that’s already has the car registered? I saw your video on how reset the car to get back to the QR code, but it didn’t mention the app and I wasn’t sure if that also resets the app or if it doesn’t matter. Thank you so much

I already have my own profile should I delete that and remove it from the car before doing this?
@TrainerSteveClifford
@TrainerSteveClifford 7 месяцев назад
If you want to share all the features, then yes, sign out of your Toyota account and sign back in using her email and password (the Toyota password she created when she set up the owner's account). You shouldn't need to delete your profile from the vehicle first. The car will just no longer see that profile and it will not be an option as long as you're signed in with her credentials on your phone. And glad I can help.

Additional question, does my husband have to have the app in order to get his phone connected on the infotainment? And other than being able to do some remote starts and gathering information about trips and things is there any significant advantage to him having access to the app? Not that I care, I'm just trying to determine if having the app is separate from being a driver and getting his phone apps like Spotify's and etc onto the infotainment screen. We just spent almost an hour and a half trying to get things figured out and still can't get connected, so I'm wondering if maybe we should just add him as another driver on the infotainment and worry about the app later, or never.
@TrainerSteveClifford
@TrainerSteveClifford 11 месяцев назад
You certainly can have a Bluetooth connection without an app or shared account. That is how most people are using this system. The presence of an app only means you can have a "profile" meaning your radio presets and seat positions can be memorized. If your husband just wants to have his phone active when he drives and he doesn't mind using your radio presets, he doesn't need the app at all.

Thank You for the video. I've done in the way that you presented and till it is in the same way as you are sitting together in the car, everything is fine but when I switched off bluetooth in my phone (which is the primary phone on which the app was installed first) and when I logged on my wife phone into the app with same login and password, the car is not recognizing her. I mean, when I have bluetooth on my phone active, it can log to my profile. When she is logged on her phone to the toyota app but entering the vehicle without my phone she cannot connect with the profile - there is still guest account there. Any solution for that? Maybe I've done sth wrong.
@TrainerSteveClifford
@TrainerSteveClifford 8 месяцев назад
The “profile” will be for the shared account. That’s the downside to this work around. The profile however is distinct from the Bluetooth device. Each of you should have your phone recognized as distinct devices and when one of you is not in the car, the other should be picked up. That doesn’t change the profile though.

This is really a horrible design if you can't have multiple phones with all the same functionality. We just picked up our Grand Hylander and was only given 1 key due to a "key shortage". In theory, we will get another key fob in 3-6 months. Didn't think much of it since we THOUGHT we could have multiple phones with a 'digital key'. So, now it seems that there isn't an easy way to allow either of us to hop in the car and drive down the road with out a game of "who has the key fob". We tried the "shared key" option, but as Steve said, both phones can't have the same functionality at the same time. In addition, every time the 2nd user tries to download the 'digital key' - it fails. So, at this point User 2 can start the car (if the car is locked), can NOT un-lock the car if the car is running. It also looks like you can only 'share' with 1 person at one time. I really hope that Toyota fixes this real soon. The 2nd users phone is pretty much useless.

I agree @DanKlanderman this is the dumbest thing I have every heard of. We have a 2nd Toyota that came with Drone Mobile. She has her own account and the vehicle is registered to both. Additionally to make it seem like there are multiple ways to "CONNECT" to the car is also STUPID. Toyota - the car is a device not an account. The OWNER should be able to assign the "device" aka car to multiple people if the owner chooses to do so. I will let the APP expire and then pay the money to switch to Drone Mobile.

Basic security dictates the notion of roles. In this case you have a car « owner » He should be designated master of the vehicle The others would be « drivers » and you could have different roles. The « drivers » defacto would have no privileges unless the owner allows it. These privileges could be restricted in time or distance or location or number of trips and even revoked if rules were broken But the « owner » and any « driver » would not be entitled to seeing private user data unless the owner of that data accepted to share it. This is what id called role based security and Toyota really missed the mark on this one. Bad bad bad design

Absolute garbage of a Multimedia / Remote system. Love the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid we just got my wife, but this account sharing is trash. We just came from her Hyundai Santa Fe and was able to add me in the app as a 2nd profile with remote everything capabilities.

Jesus christ. Not your fault but this is an absolute hot mess. Parents just got a new highlander and i just want them each to have access to the car in the app under their own accounts. They have their own profiles in the car itself but holy smokes, Toyota royally effed up the app side of this. My head hurts 😫

This is stupid. Why can’t a vehicle have 2 drivers? We have 2 drivers sharing 2 new vehicles. Why can we both have both vehicles?

Remote Start does NOT work, i'm sorry, PAYING for this app that is still in ALPHA development stage? Big fail by toyota. Remote start/connect all is setup (i have the start/stop/lock buttons) and this is the problem: The car is parked , engine off/car off, with key fob very far away. I go into the car, I open the app, i HAVE to press lock from the app otherwise the conditions are not "all checked" in order to start the engine (this does not make sense, but anyhow) Ok i press START, it spins and shows countdown of 20 mins. My 2023 prime responds emergency lights flashing engine is now on at P. however i can do nothing else past this point. If i press brake engine will shut off. WHY? what do i need to do to start and actually drive?

The remote start is not a digital key. It is only intended to start the car. If the brake pedal is pressed and the actual key is not in the car, the assumption is that an unauthorized person is driving and it shuts off. It’s a security thing

@@TrainerSteveClifford thanks, i see, i guess they should clarify that somewhere because that's what it sounded like it should do! , So in what situation does someone who has the key fob need to start the car remotely...? is it to pre-AC/pre-heat the car...?

@TrainerSteveClifford 10 месяцев назад
@@howardc3685 not sure where you live but in cold climates, starting the car 10 minutes before you drive is a great way to defrost the windows and warm up the car. In hot areas, getting the ac cranking is very popular. Before this feature, a remote start was our number one selling accessory

How to put 2 vehicles in one app, me and my wife each has one Toyota, in my app RAV4 is my first car and i want to add her bz4x as the second car, I followed the instruction in the app: first scan VIN of the bz4x- I did it then scan RQ code and I get stuck on this step couldn’t find this code in the BZ4X
