Oscar (Will Smith), a lowly tongue-scrubber at the local Whale Wash, becomes a hero when he tells a great white lie. When his lie begins to unravel, Oscar teams up with an outcast vegetarian shark, Lenny (Jack Black) and his loyal friend Angie (Renée Zellweger) to help him stand up to the most feared shark in the water (Robert De Niro) and find his true place in the reef.

At last, the movie that somehow got nominated for Best Animated Feature, got Martin Scorsese to voice act for the first, and as far as I know, only time, and made Will Smith quit voice acting for 15 years. And yet, I can't help but love it, because of how bad it is.

I always loved the Shrimp so much!!! 🤣 This was a huge hit with me and my friends when it came out, we were tweens. Im not sure why it ended up being a bit forgotten. We rented it like 5 times and would always laugh at the singing at the end.

A lot of people from my recollection do not give enough credit to Shark Tale as it should, more negative than positive reviews. I can understand it would be since it’s a one-off movie, but other than that, Shark Tale deserves better. Personally, I enjoy this film. It’s entertaining, good fun, and has a great cast as well, not to mention the songs. Underrated imo.

The Sharks are an Italian Mafia, and in those the there's a lot of "we're doin this as a family." Hence why the Don puts this pressure on Lenny.

Ziggy Marley is Bob Marley's son. Bob Marley was a HUGE Jamaican reggae icon and the song Ernie and Bernie correct Oscar on was one of Bobby Marley's biggest hits. And Oscar made buck from numerous, lucrative endorsements.

The scene where Oscar was tied up by the jellyfish, the song playing is Three Little Birds by Bob Marley, not Ziggy.

I didn’t get it when I was younger but Lenny saying he’s a vegetarian was a metaphor for coming out. In the mob, being gay will get you killed. So the fact he’s now the sole heir to a mob family puts a lot more pressure to be what his father wants to be instead of himself

Awesome reaction! I’m glad that you enjoyed this film. I liked this film too. Honestly, when Lenny, and his father reconcile at the end, it made me think of the relationship with Jim, and Long John Silver, and how they also reconciled. Granted, the difference is that Lenny’s father actually was his father. And sure, I wouldn’t consider Oscar one of the best animated protagonists. Still, I enjoyed it. I was surprised to find that this film had a really low score on Rotten Tomatoes. Oscar, and Angie’s relationship was cute too. Anyway, thanks for reviewing Shark Tale!

If you need some suggestions, I have two animated movies I’d definitely consider worth watching when you find the time: the first one being “Wish Dragon”. Which for me was an absolutely hilarious and emotional roller coaster (Awesome, underrated movie!). My second suggestion would be “Small Foot”. though I haven’t watched in a while, I remember loving it so much back when it came out, that I had to buy it. Great musical numbers, a fun intriguing story (a true hidden gem).

I remember Jack Black was in this movie when I first heard about him. I didn't remember he was in the Neverending Story 3 film, but Shark Tale was the best one to meet Jack Black.

For Will Smith in Animation, the 2019 Spies in Disguise by Blue Sky Studios is superior in every way. You might want to put it on your list, Smith really brings his charm to his role. This was also Blue Sky/Fox's last animated film before being bought out by Disney.

This movie is so awful and I don't get why you people like this movie. Oscar is the most unlikeable protagonist on Earth, and it's like the other main and side characters are any better. With all that said, this movie is one of the greatest feature length shitpost I've ever seen.
