I will tear down my new used engine before I install. Thanks for the experience.

wonder if running a couple cans of seafoam in it to clean it out good, then changing oil would help...if it is sludge it could just be oil not getting there and once clean out, it may quiet down

Man, I could’ve used some of those panels and doors on my jeep. And as dumb as they are the wheels too. Basically my jeep is crappy lol but it has the NSG370.

Did you ever find out what that knock was from? I had that same noise on my engine before it blew. I'm getting ready to install the new one so I want to get that info if it's available

Unfortunately no, oil starvation from sludge build up seems to the be the accepted Achilles heel of this engine with the various people I’ve spoken to. Switching to synthetic is supposed to alleviate that problem and possibly prevent it. Don’t know if that’s what killed the first one. The second one is a mystery since it ran fine in the donor car when we drove it. It was only after the fluid and filter change that it started knocking. Never over heated, oil level was correct and the pressure alert light never came on. The working theory is my donor engine was bad and running a much heavier weight oil to cover the symptoms

Did you consider installing a new remanufactured engine instead of the used one?

I did, even looked at two remanufactured units early on that claim to fix the supposed achilles heel valve train failures the 3.7 can suffer. (Before I found out it had snapped a rod ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YoWUjmrpRZo.html ) If this was my only vehicle and I planned on putting another 100K miles on it, a new unit would've been the way to go, the used unit was meant to be a stop gap until we do more intersting with it in the future. As of right now it is running

@@CrookedMustache i understand that but all that work in my opinion is better to put at a remanufactured engine.
