Just wanted to say thank you for your genuine honesty in response to these questions, and bringing your answers to this platform! I'm actually also a tropical marine ecologist and newfound RU-vidr as well and in the process of learning science communication, and I have to say I'm really impressed by your edits and social media presence. I'm definitely wanting to learn more about better methods to engage people with science and it's great to find examples of people doing it very well! Looking forward to your future content and seeing more of what you do.
Love the chat-style video :) Always nice to "sit down" with a fellow ocean scientist. You briefly mentioned your businesses in a response. I would LOVE to hear more about both of them in a future video! Your apparel line looks amazing! PLUG yourself :)
Hello! I am currently an in-between jobs marine biologist and you featured me on Women in Ocean Science! A) Thank you for the feature!! I am SO honored and I love the community that you've created and B) thank you for sharing your story. I love hearing about everyone's journey, as I am trying to navigate my own right now due to COVID stunting the research market.
I loved so much this video! I felt so related with a lot of things! (The struggle with diving duh jajaja, I'm a new and fully in love diver) Thank you for opening to us like this, you have given me so much inspiration and courage through your content, and now meeting you a little in a "comfy" way gives me life! 💙 PS: It's so nice to see people around my age (24-25) doing such great works and pursuing their dreams to the fullest, sometimes life is hard but you can do better if you work hard. Keep doing and inspiring like this, and never stop being as nice as you are! You rock girl! (Greetings from Spain! 💙)
thank you so much for posting about this. im 14 and my dream is to be a marine biologist and specialise in sharks they are my absolute passion, question: what is your favourite shark, and which is your favourite that you have swam with?
Wow this really just came up on my ‘for you’ page! Lol, I literally just started following Women in Ocean Science a few days ago on Instagram & Facebook😊 I just graduated with my Bachelors in Biology and im really considering doing a Masters as well! This video was awesome & so informative, you go girl!
Hey Mads! I also got a MSc. in marine biology (graduated june 2019), but now working in Switzerland in environmental education. I'd love to hear you talk about the different projects you have worked on as a marine biologist, and how you got into them. I think I like hearing people talk about it because it illuminates how exactly a career can be built. Cheers from Switzerland, take care! EDIT: I'm realizing it's very possible you already made a video or talked about it, I haven't gone through all your vids and podcasts yet! Ignore this if that is the case XD
Thank you so much for sharing your answers! It was really interesting to watch and I was actually so happy that you explained that being a marine biologist is not just about diving with cute animals, haha. I have a degree in animal behaviour and currently doing a postgrad in biodiversity, ecology and evolution. At some point, I did consider going the marine biology route but quickly realised that it's actually a lot more about chemistry and animal physiology and calculations etc. so I gave up 😂 Quick question (because I did not know that you had two businesses). How did you set them up? How did you decide to open up these businesses? And how/where did you learn how to do it? I am curious because this is something I would like to do in the future as well.
Hi!!!!!☺ I have a question, how often do you get to do dives and feild work?? I can't wait to watch your video on how you became a marine biologist!!! Great video😄❤
Hello, since you said that you studied biomedical sciences I have a question for you. I applied for biomedical sciences but realised that I actually wanna study Marine biology. The universities I got offers are King's college london, Edinburgh, Manchester and York. Non of these directly have marine biology. So would you suggest me to do exactly what you did (choose marine focused lectures in 3rd year), Try to transfer the second year or take a gap year and apply specifically for marine next year? and also do you have any suggestions about which school should I pick. I would be so happy if you answer. Thank you so much:))
will you ever create expeditions for scientific study and would you be willing to add divers who would like to support the expeditions and learn to be scientific divers?
