Most shaving soap does not fit into a shaving bowl. When you use it with a brush, the soap rolls around in the bowl. This method ensures that it fits and that it does not move around.
You can put glycerin based soap in the microwave for about 20 seconds to melt it. Hard milled soap will not melt in the microwave and you can grate it. I grate williams soap then melt some vanderhagen. Once melted i mix in the williams soap. Makes my favorite soap to date.
Hi great video. I live and work in Turkey and my soap of choice is Arko Soap Sticks. I grate them all the time and mould them into a bowl. I find that grated soap lasts longer than just the solid soap stick.
I just got my first shaving bowl from my wife. I bout a sample pack with a few different products including a brush before that! I love the experience of shaving this way! I haven't used up my soap that it came with, but its good to see your idea, should a puck doesn't fit! Thanks for the idea.
not to state the obvious but why not just grate off the extra quarter inch or so around the puck...drop the little amount of shavings into the bottom and then press down the entire puck into the bowl ?....that would save all that pressing to re-form the puck.
That is a great idea! That would save a lot of time. Here is a slight variation: Shave off some soap from the bottom of the puck. Drop the puck in place and press the shavings in place to hold the puck. I like your thinking. Thanks for the idea.
+Linus That's what I do. When I see I'm running low, I toss in a new puck, put the mug in the nuker and do 10 second intervals. Once it's melted, I let it sit in the microwave for a while to cool.
To avoid mushy soap, try leaving the top off (except while traveling, of course) so the moisture can evaporate. If it's a glycerin puck, be conscious of the humidity. Glycerin soap is a humectant, which means it will draw moisture from the air unto itself and hold onto it. It will look like little dew drops on the soap. (This is why glycerin soaps are so good for the skin.) Milled soaps that get wet, really should be allowed to "breathe" at all times, except when travelling. If you really want to get maximum mileage out of milled soap, leave it in a dark, cool, and DRY place for a year or so before using. If it's wrapped in anything but 100% paper (no wax or plastic lining), remove the wrapper. Doing this allows some of the water content in the soap to evaporate, thus creating a much harder bar of soap that will last longer.Hope this helps.
This is correct. Leave off the top. It will prevent the mushiness. You can store your container upside down without the lif in a shower without problems (I am using a glycerine based soap).
+Max Savino No issues with slowly microwaving the soap. Use a low power setting and check often. Stir occasionally. Once it is melted, set it in an area where it will not be disturbed.
Eric Alvarado I got the container at the store called "The Art of Shaving". Once I finished with the shaving cream, I used the container for my shave soap. Thank you for watching my video. I hope it was helpful.
Stick it in the Microwave for 30 seconds and you're done, I've been doing it since microwaves came out. But it won't work on milled soaps, there too hard.
Linus Save yourself all that extra work of grading your puck...just microwave it for 15-20 seconds like Dale Crummie and Linus said to do! Best part about microwaving your soap is that after many uses and it starting to take a different shape in your bowl you just microwave it again and it's perfectly level again and this way you get to use 100% of your soap...non of it goes to waste.
