As someone in a long term relationship where we’ve had phases of not having sex and having sex the love menu is actually genius. Sometimes niggas are just tired and you really want to connect physically but yall don’t have the energy in that phase in life. Some people are also driven by physical touch so sex is important. There’s a lot of planning that sometimes goes into sex if both parties need to be satisfied so sometimes building up with something like a love menu helps you get to that point over the course of a couple of days instead of having to set aside a specific time to have sex. Plus sometimes shit happens where the time you set aside is no longer available and then what? I have to wait another week or so until we have the time to attempt again? Also, the difference between a friendship and a romantic relationship should be the sexual/ romantic attraction. So if it’s missing and not being cultivated then what makes the relationship romantic at that point?
the commitment you have to the other person is also a distinctive that often goes unnoticed. i’m sure you know that you have a very deep emotional connection with your partner in the ltr that you wouldn’t have with anyone else, and you wouldn’t want your partner to share the type of connection with others as well. i can’t really think of any other connection or example for it than “emotional cheating” but it’s still something romantic if that makes sense

Like I have two best friends I basically grew up with that I love just as deeply and profoundly as my partner. My best friends and I literally plan to raise our families together in a duplex situation and everything. The distinction is attraction physical or other wise. That’s why emotional affairs happen. It’s because people become romantically attracted through the sharing of highly emotional experiences or interactions.

It's really interesting how most of these questions about the defining qualities of what it means to be "alpha" or "beta" almost entirely revolve around women, where the narratives tends to be that an "Alphas" entire identity almost seemingly revolves around women and the caliber of women he associates with whereas the "betas" could care less and are more interested in one's character and the defining qualities that make them. All that to say, "alpha" men come off as grown adult men with mommy issues and something to prove.
