This was my aunt's favorite singer and this was her song After she died me and her son grabbed her truck, Janice was in the CD, we drove three hours and played it on repeat because this was her song We sung together, we talked, we sat in silence.
But you have to give props to Bob Dylan's line from like a rolling stone." When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose, which predates Me and Bobby McGee by 4 years. Still, both very good lyrics.
Voice to text issues I expect. I hope the person appreciates it as much as I do, I hate when I leave unknown typos in a comment. I appreciate the corrections. Drives me nuts. If we don't use it, we're going to lose it!
That line from this song kept running through my head when a little boy that we had in foster care for over a year was taken away by the courts and returned to his birth family. We didn't see him again for almost 2 years when out of the blue his mother called and wanted us to take him for a while and now we have him a lot of the time.
I love watching the two of you react to Janis' music. As a 65 year old that lived through the music that so many people ignore these days, it's great to see young people rediscovering all the great music our generation made :)
As a 72 year old. I am beginning to think I grew up with some of the best music. My generation listened and played more music because we we did not have so many other distractions that today’s youth have.
I am an 80 year old white woman who came of age during this Golden Age of Classic Rock. I am delighted to see you young whipper snappers rediscover this music and appreciate it
Ok..admission time!! My wife and I bought our Mercedes on the same day last year. When I got in the car after signing the papers. The first song I played..Mercedes Benz
When I was a young kid in the 70s I had a mix tape I had made, and on it American Pie was followed by Me And Bobby McGee. I listened to that tape a lot, so whenever I hear American Pie somewhere, I'm always waiting for Janis to come on after it ends. Amazingly, one day about 10 years ago I was driving while listening to a classic rock station, and they played American Pie, followed immediately by Me and Bobby McGee. I was so shocked I almost drove into a ditch. What are the chances of that??
Recorded the day she overdosed too. Sad. She was with Bobby Womack and took a drive out in his Merc before her "dealer" showed up. She left us a good one too.
One of the best lines in rock n roll; “I’d trade all my tomorrows, for one single yesterday.” You ‘cheese’ as hard as you like Amber, we all do when listening to Janis.
Oh Paul, my heart hurts for you. I am so very sorry for your loses. I didn't think anything was worse than losing my parents, but you never expect to lose a spouse and especially not your own child. I lost my husband 12 years ago(49) and my son 9 years ago(31) It is unimaginable pain. He was my only child. My heart broke when Tears in Heaven came out and at that time I could not even imagine losing my child. I am truly so sorry for the loss of your precious little girl and your wife. Sending hugs.
@paul Provenzano words cannot express the pain you have suffered. My wife has end stage COPD. I can only imagine how much this song means to you if you are at the stage it's comforting! My heart goes out to you and all the people who have lost a spouse or child.
Janis Joplin is iconic but this is undoubtedly the song she’ll be remembered for. And it was originally written by Kris Kristofferson! Janis totally took that song and made you think of the pain in her tortured soul. Janis is just an all time favorite of mine, she was a star even on Big Brother’s first record with her . She has also influenced so many artists over the decades.
Janis was a jewel...saw a documentary about her - she attended her high school reunion after she had hit the big time but was still nervous and afraid no one would want to talk to her or be seen with her because that's what they had done to her when she was a student. Another beautiful soul chewed up and spit out by the ugly side of the era in which she lived.
I really feel bad for her an have to wonder if her family, friends and even those she went to school with had treated her better and if she hadn't been so ostricised if maybe she would still be alive and he would have never gotten as deeply addicted to heroin as she did. Because honestly everything I've read and heard it really tore her down not feeling like she was loved and people calling her "ugly". Janis was FAR from it. Janis was and will always be beautiful to some of us both in appearance and her soul. RIP Janis
Before my time but damn her voice was soul deepening In the one interview she did where she said she loves her fans. That everyone just wants to be loved. Tears in her eyes. Oh Janis, you were really loved.
This song makes me cry so hard when I’m a little toasted. She was just so beautiful. Thanks for reacting to this and reminding me how magical Janis is.
Sorry you lost your husband. I know it hurts. I lost mine five years ago But I found love again, I met a widower and we found we had lots in common and understood each other's grief. Life does go on.
You guys..I just love your reactions to Janis. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I'm an old lady now and 50 years later Janis is still my favorite. You guys saw into her soul early on. She ripped her soul out and gave it to all of us and I'm so proud she still fills you young guys with joy.
@@morganspector5161 Wrong. He encouraged her to record this song. She agreed but didn't tell him she recorded it for "Pearl" since it was recorded days before her death. He first knew she did it when a producer played it for him the day after she died. It was hard for him to hear, but he loved her version.
I've said it before and I'll say it again- "I'd trade all my tomorrows for one single yesterday.. to be holdin' Bobby's body next to mine" is one of the greatest lyrics ever. Great, great song.
How cool to see who you two have evolved into musically. Shows where the path music took you to as individuals. Loved mama getting her Janis fix. Stay blessed.
Have you listened to “Piece of my heart” by Janis yet? If not that should be next. Also for next Friday give Melissa Ethridge and “I’m the only one” a try.
Saw Janis live in Calgary AB back in 70', to this day she is still the best blues singer I've ever heard. Very distinctive powerful vocalist. So glad I was able to hear her live!!
I stumbled on you guys tonight, big mistake! 😭 I have been binge watching now for hours! And........ I have no more tissues OR toilet paper in the house! You guys make me feel all the emotions I felt when I was experiencing these concerts as they happened! Yes....I’m that old!😱🤣 thank you! Huge support to you from an old rock and roll lady! 💖💜
Every time I try to watch one of their vids, I end up in a binge fest !! These guys are the best reaction channel I've found, and their music selection is great.
I believe Janis Joplin to be a perfect example of "give them their flowers before they're gone " If she had been appreciated And loved When she needed it the most, Perhaps she would have had the strength to love herself. Perhaps even still been with us. Please continue to pass on the love You're doing a great job!
@@markmurphy558 it is truly obvious sarcasm is over your head. I believe you're negativity is nothing more than a poison. That I need not swallow. I hope that you find the happiness you seek. heads up! your happiness does not reside here!
What a winning combo they were. I had the honor of seeing the two of them share a small stage in Texas as a teen. Writer and single added a couple extra verses. Meeting them after the show was a life memory. She was set to record a second K song but died before it was cut.
She killed this song. Kris Kristofferson wrote it as a country song. They say a good country song is 3 chords and the truth and that's how he wrote this one. 3 simple chords and it's magical.
Just love Amber's reaction to Joplin. This song was the second record to ever posthumously ever hit #1 on Billboard top 100 and Janis only #1 song. Sadly she died before the release of "Pearl" and never knew she hit # 1. Y'all are just the cutest!!
This is my favorite Janis song not just because it’s a great song but it has so much sentimental value to me. My mom was a singer and she used to kill this song. She died in 2018 and music makes me feel closer to her because it was such a big part of her
I'm rediscovering the joy of the music I used to take for granted as I was growing up. Thank you and may you be blessed and know that you are blessed. May your present needs be met and may your deepest needs be met. May you be blessed.
I feel this to my soul! I was born in 70 and this music shaped my childhood. Listening is bringing back memories both good AND bad and I love it! Their enthusiasm is so contagious ♥️♥️ Keep it up 👍🏼
After your previous reaction to Janis, I rebought her LPs and have been entirely blown away again, 30 years after the first time...Her voice defies description...truly a gift from God, and I say that as an atheist lol
Kris Kristofferson is an amazing lyrical storyteller. He wrote more than most people realize. Brilliant man. Lovin' her was easier than anything I'll ever do again has THE most beautiful imagery I've ever heard in a song.
Yes!!!!! My favorite Janis song; this was written and sung by Kris Kristofferson (think she had a thing with him 😊) and she sang the hell out of it and made it hers❤️. Want to hear a funny Janice song? “MERCEDES BENZ” 👏
There is a documentary about Janis out there. Kris Kristofferson said that their relationship was like a brother & sister. He also said that he always hated that feather boa (seen in pictures of her), that she loved to wear.😁
Kris Kristofferson wrote a lot of songs that people assume were written by someone else. Sunday Morning Coming Down was made popular by Johnny Cash. For a long time I thought it was a Johnny Cash song - some of the best storytelling in a short tune.
Written by Kris Kristofferson and originally performed by Roger Miller, who’s version I much prefer tbh. Sad that he often doesn’t get the credit for being the first to release it as a track.
I was a kid in the 70s and we owned maybe a dozen albums that werent Herb Alpert and the Tiajana Brass (complicated story) and Pearl was one of them This song is my favorite. I also married a Bobby, giving it some weight.
I've been waiting for you to listen to this one. Sadly this came out after her death. This song was written by Kris Kristofferson, who is a great singer songwriter himself. He loves Janis version which made this song a hit.
I am SO GLAD y'all listened to this! This is the song I've been wanting y'all (especially Amber) to hear. I would also suggest you check out her version of "Summertime". Another bluesy female artist I would suggest is Samantha Fish - sings like Janis, plays guitar like Jimi.
My favorite song of hers. You might look into Carole King for Female Fridays. Especially her tapestry album: You Make me feel like a Natural woman, I feel the earth move, so far away, tapestry, you’ve got a friend...the whole album is a classic.
Simply one of the greatest songs and recordings of all time. Period. The album Pearl was her masterpiece. Unfortunately, she didn't live to see its success, passing away a few months before its release.
Written by Kris Kristofferson and originally performed by Roger Miller, who’s version I much prefer tbh. Sad that he often doesn’t get the credit for being the first to release it as a track.
I read or heard somewhere that Janis Joplin drank Jim Morrison under the table. Haha! I love the lyrics "freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose "
Love the look on y'alls sweet faces when she sings, I have been a fan of Janis' when as a teen her voice blew me away. So good to see her legacy live on with the younger generation. Thank you!
When my son was a baby, I sang Janis Joplin's version of Summertime to him as a lullaby. Not *nearly* as well as Janis of course. If you don't know Summertime it's awesome.
This is one of those songs that has even more impact when you learn the backstory. Kris was ready to give up being a songwriter, and this is the song that turned his career around. The saddest part is, she never got to know how deeply she touched people. She died the day before the album was released. Kris had to make himself listen to it, because he knew he'd be hearing it on the radio and he had to be able to deal with what was to come.
She actually died the day before her last vocal was to be recorded which was the track Buried Alive In The Blues. It made it on the album but with no vocals. They were waiting at the studio for her to lay down the vocals but she had died the night before in her hotel room.
This album came out after her death. She had NO IDEA how much she was loved and appreciated! That SHE would become the standard for decades to come to compare R&B artists. Her recording life was only 3 years and she left an indelible foot print for all time.
Girl watching you listening and falling in love with Janis makes my day. Your reaction to her was exactly like mine some 55 years ago. It’s such a joy listening to her and watching you appreciate her talent. God bless.
No, that's _not_ Big Brother and the Holding Company. On this album, which would be her last (sadly), the backing band was called Full Tilt Boogie. And man were they great!
Some great Kristofferson lyrics and imagery in this song. "Feeling near as faded as my jeans" "with the windshield wipers slapping time" "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" "I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday" It is when Janis does the ending for this song, that she takes it from being a great rendition of a country classic, to becoming a Janis song.
I'm thrilled that younger people are listening to Janis. I was aware of her since 1971. And yes she can rock your socks off and startle you by the instrumental and of course her unique raspy voice. She certainly is the Queen of Rock.
Found you searching for "Janis" I've loved her since I was a kid. Wow! Love your channel watching you react to a song and an artist that's been a part of my heart and life was amazing!!!!! When you paused and talked about how melliw & soft she was being in my head I'm like lol just wait! Loved it! I will be watching your videos ya got me! So great to see another generation enjoy the music I love. Thanks you!
Gotta totally agree....Mercedes- Benz, Move Over, Summertime, and Piece Of My Heart are Phenomenal. Love the Janis shirt by the way. Janis Joplin sings from her heart and soul
