J/Amber, their "Goodbye To You" is outstanding!!! ALSO, solo Patty Smyth "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" (with Don Henley) is great!! Keith Mack - guitar.
You should try Quarterflash "harden my heart" they are school teachers turned rock stars. Would be a great female Friday choice. Right up your alley. Love the music selection. You are killing it!
Scandal with Patty Smyth is one of the most underrated bands of the 80s. The Warrior is their anthem, but Goodbye to You and Hands Tied are equally awsome songs. You can't beat 80s music ....... great memories from my teenage years,
I would recommend reacting to Kim Wilde, another great 80s singer. Kids in America was her first big hit in the U.S. She does a great cover of You Keep Me Hanging On.
Have you guys done “goodbye to you” bh Scandal. It’s fun. Patty Smyth also did a great duet called “sometimes love just ain’t enough” with Don Henley that is awesome
"Win Some Lose Some", and "Goodbye to You" are great listens as well. She also sings backing vocals with Don Henley on a blues rock tune called "Bluest eyes" by a really cool band Storyville.
If you want some full blown 80's sound check out The Hooters "And We Danced." I was more of a head banger in the day but that song just makes me smile to this day.
Eddie knew what a powerful vocalist she is. Honestly, he did great with getting Sammy. But a 2nd band project with Smyth I would have loved to have seen.
Patty Smyth is Gorgeous I've always loved her voice ( Infact she was supposed to have been the leed singer of Van Halen when David Lee Roth left van halen. Another great song with her in it is, (Sometimes love just ain't enough) A duet with her and Don Henley from the eagles.👍❤️🎤
I never heard that she was going to be Dave’s replacement over Sammy. If that ever happened we would of lost out on some of the greatest Van Halen music. She was good but no where close to that level.
I'm glad you mentioned it. Can you imagine her as the frontwoman for Van Halen? Many, many years ago I saw an interview about her turning down the Van Halen opening. She wasn't the only one asked. Sammy was the 3rd choice. Who was the other?
The other singer was Mitch Malloy, an L.A. scene rock vocalist who actually auditioned for Van Halen and thought he was going to get the gig until Eddie met Sammy and immediately dumped Mitch. Since 2018 Mitch is now the lead singer of Great White. It's true Patty was Eddie's first choice to replace Dave and she turned the offer down. Personal fun fact, I saw Sammy & Van Halen in '86 in Seattle and for their encore they covered Led Zeppelin's "Rock-n-Roll". Ann Wilson of Heart came on stage and performed it with them. It was amazing.
Their first big hit "Good Bye to You" was a great early 80's banger with the vibe you guys like. Make sure you get the early, primitive-looking video that shows the band.
This dropped right after I graduated from high school and was on the radio a lot. Next, try her duet with Don Henley called “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough.”
One of my all-time favorites. Even the dudes jammed to this in high school. One of the things that made for so much creativity in music in the 80's was the new medium of MTV and music videos. I think it inspired so many bands and singers to make some amazing music that otherwise would not have happened. Still got to do Chic for Female Friday. Top notch disco.
Love Scandal...another of theirs to consider is "Goodbye to You" More suggestions for Female Friday: Yvonne Elliman - "If I can't have You" (70's disco era) Sheila E. - "Glamorous Life" (80's) Taylor Dayne- "Love will Lead You back" (90's) T'pau - "Heart and Soul" (80's) I hope you will like them!
After three decades Patty Smyth still has a great big voice. Check out the duet she did with Don Henley from Eagles - Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough, which she wrote. She and her husband, John McEnroe happen to live in my neighborhood in NYC. I’ve seen her on occasion but never him.
I didn't know she was married to him now. My parents very vaguely knew him as he was tge celebrity spokesman for a charity my father was on the board of 25 or do years ago.
Thank you so much guys! I had mentioned this before so I'm glad you could get to it. BTW, that's Patty Smyth as the lead and she is sheer fabulousness! :)
Everybody taped stuff off the radio back then. The only thing that sometimes ruined it would be an idiot DJ who spoke over the opening or closing of the song.
"Goodbye To You" is my favorite Scandal song. Patty is beautiful and she can sing, baby. "Love's Got a Line On You" is another classic that features two future legends in the music video. See if you can pick them out. John McEnroe is one lucky bastard. :-)
awww man you guys are dighi into why I miss the 80s sooo much....!! because as you said... the 80s were so much fun!! For me what I miss is the fantastic melodies of that Era.... Melody is something that has seriously been lost over the decades....
If you guys watch the Netflix series "Glow", this is the song that opens every episode. This band had some heavy hits in the early- mid 80s- "Goodbye To You", "Beat Of A Heart", "Only The Young" (which became an even bigger hit for Journey when they covered it), Scandal vocalist Patty Smyth had a hit duet with Don Henley from The Eagles in the early 90's called "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough". The video for "The Warrior" is great, too- classic 80's high-fashion post-apocalyptic cheese; blew my 13-year-old mind when it came out.
WOW! Such a blast from the past! I remember blasting this album in my 70 Camaro when I was cruising on Friday and Saturday nights. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! The Warrior is in my TOP 5 Fave Songs and Videos from my High Schools days. This video/song brings back so many awesome memories for me.
Yes!!! I concur!! Just as everyone is saying and suggesting on here... Scandal's Goodbye to You is a banger too and the duet with Don Henley Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough(2 beautiful voices fr!) is absolutely beautiful and must watch and listen to, suggestions!
Back in the 80s, the NBA put out a mixtape NBA Superstars and this song was used for the Charles Barkley Highlight package. Used to watch that to get hyped before heading out to the courts to play!
Nothing scandalous 😉 about the in your face marching beat in this tune and Patty's powerful voice!! Plus, the guitar 🎸 - which I LOVE that Amber mentioned!! 🙂 This song, IMO is right along side Sunglasses At Night!! Those two were so cool at this particular time (1983 & 1984) of the 80's!! I also loved how J busted out 80's right at the beginning!! 😂 Love y'all... you two are so much fun!! @Rob Squad Reactions
Another band to react to from the 80s is Lone Justice and for Female Friday. Their lead singer, Maria McKee was amazing. She's still out there. With Lone Justice, it's best to listen to the studio versions or the official music videos to get the full effect of her voice. I did link one live version below. Here are some cuts to check out: "Shelter": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jvo9MbTkUbE.html "I Found Love": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W7MNAWuoo9g.html "Dreams Come True (Stand Up and Take It)": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5TBNrM0L9zc.html "Sweet, Sweet Baby (I'm Falling)": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nNf-1DJCrPc.html "Ways to Be Wicked" (Live): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I7JIQyteOic.html
Yay finally someone reacted to Patty Smyth -- She and Pat Benetar were my 80s rockin Babes --- A Beat of a Heart was my favorite Scandal tune --- I used to dance my ass off to this -- Lol those were the days
great reaction and great song! You should react to 10,000 Maniacs "These are Days" Natalie Merchant is the singer and she is electric. That song always puts me in a better mood.
That's what I've always heard, even seen it come up in interviews, Patty was newly pregnant at the time VH was looking for a new lead singer so she wasn't able to do the touring.
Ahhh, finally!!! This song brings back so many fun 80s memories dancing with friends! "Shootin' at the walls of heartache Bang, bang I am the warrior Yes I am the warrior Victory is mine (Shootin' at the walls of heartache) The warrior I am the warrior (Shootin' at the walls of heartache) Bang, bang I am the warrior..."
The incomparable Patty Smyth (not to be confused with 60s/70s singer/songwriter Patti Smith). I'm frankly amazed Scandal didn't last longer than they did. "The Warrior" was their highest-charting hit, but you have to listen to "Goodbye to You" before you consider yourself done with Scandal. "Love's Got a Line On You" is also a great song. And, I know you guys love interesting duet pairings, so I would highly suggest you do Patty's duet with The Eagles' Don Henley, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough".
"Goodbye to You" was their biggest song, but an underrated song from the same album is "Love is Gonna Get You." Also, "Beat of a Heart" never got as much airplay as it deserved. She had also a solo song also worth listening to: "Never Enough"
All great songs, also another great solo track from her, “Heartache Heard Round The World”. PS: The Scandal song you mentioned “Love Is Gonna Get You” is called “Love’s Got A Line On You”.
Great reaction you two always entertaining. Great singer Patty Smyth (pronounced SmYth the Y sound).. in the era with Pat Benetar and Joan Jett. There was another Patty; Patty Smith who sang "Because the Night" another great song from this 80's era and can be added to your woman's of rock on Friday's.
This was one of those songs you turned UP when it came on the radio! Oh yeah, totally 80s to the limit. Patty Smyth has one more amazing voice. Great reaction! Peace and love!
I saw Patty Smyth in concert before the pandemic. Omg she was fantastic! She still has a tremendous powerful voice. I absolutely love her. I’m super happy you both reacted to this song. My favorite too! Many commentators listed her other hits and they are all really great.😊❤️
Celine Dion - It's all coming back to me know (Official Video) - I Drove all night Also You'll Love Celine Dion with the Bee Gees - Immortality Also " Olivia Newton John - Xanadu....E.L.O. Music playing in the back ground"
I doubt I am alone in the fact that there are certain songs that have a unique memory attached when ever you hear them……. They take you to a certain place and time in your life like it was yesterday…. Vivid memories. This song for me….. September 10, 1984… 0730…. Just completed Air Force Basic Training… Monday morning…. boarded the bus to the San Antonio Airport on my way to my first duty station. The beginning of a career and the rest of my life.
Back in -85 I asked for a casette tape off Cindy Lauper, so one the a side it was Cindy and on the b side the album Warrior by Scandal and it really got to me every song on the album, Ive always wondered why this band didnt make it big cause that singer is something special!
Oh Yes J/Amber...The look the sound quintessential eighties...Takes me back to a very specific time in my life (bittersweet)..Love Your Channel!!...Thank you so much for reacting to this awesome tune of my generation..The Wife here..ROCk On..!!
This is one of my favorite songs. It popular when I was young. Brings back so many good memories. I am so fortunate to have lived my teenage years in the 80's.
It's been 9 months since you played Pat Benetar's "Love is a Battlefield", so I suggest for next Female Friday to play her "Shadows Of The Night". Also, you haven't played the Pretenders yet, so maybe play their "Back on the Chain Gang" or "Brass in Pocket"
I LOVE THIS SONG! I love this video! I've been waiting for a reaction to this. This is one of my favorite songs ever! So fun. I have to do the finger-guns EVERY TIME she sings "Bang bang", lolololol. And I just love that voice, that accent -- I don't know if it's just a New York accent or what, but it just tickles me. "Goodbye to You" and "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" are also great.
Well that's one off my list! Other female's I would suggest The Pretenders - Middle of the road or Brass in pocket (you really need to do The Pretenders!) KT Tunstall - Suddenly I see Martika - Toy soldiers T'Pau - Heart and soul Edie Brickell and the new bohemians - What I am Macy Gray - I try Dido - Thank you Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
This video absolutely captures the 80’s. I was just a kid then, fun times. I love your reaction productions! You really listen, and really discuss the songs
Thank you for getting to this. As someone has already mentioned, she was asked to be lead singer for Van Halen after David Lee Roth left. I just emailed you this request 2 or 3 days ago
Y'all will love this!thus!! Eddie Van Halen asked her to be the new lead singer of Van Halen after David Lee Roth left. They were friends and he loved her vocals. She turned it down because her career was taking off and she honestly wasn't quite sure she'd fit. He asked her not to tell Sammy he had asked her, lol!
We saw Patty Smyth and Scandal on the 80s Cruise. Her voice is still amazing! I got to talk to her a bit after the concert and got a photo. She was really nice.
I'm going to continue to recommend Lone Justice, fronted by Maria McKee, for Female Fridays - "Sweet Sweet Baby Mine" is a great place to start. I'm sure you will love it!
Been watching lots of your videos over the last few weeks. Just a comment to blow your mind. The lead singer of Scandal, Patty Smyth was offered the lead singer position of Van Halen after Dave left before they contacted Sammy. Keep up the great reaction videos. Have a great day. Stephen
Thank you for visiting Scandal. Great memories. Goodbye to you is another good choice for Scandal. Another good choice for Female Friday is Nena's "99 Luftballons." (1983)
Glad you listened to this, Patty Smyth had an outstanding voice. Goodbye to you was another big hit for them (2 versions, 1 with Jon Bon Jovi on keyboards). My favorite by Scandal was Beat of a heart, Pattys voice could just be haunting sometimes
Great song. I was in high school when it came out, and our mascot was the Warriors, so you know it got played during warm ups for sporting events. Would love to see you react to Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday, the lead singer is female and Edge of a Broken Heart by Vixen, an all female rock group. I love watching you two. Keep it up!
