Some of those DMUs dated back to 1957 and were probably ready to be scrapped, but for all they were noisy and well past their best in 1989, with breakdowns becoming more common, they had given decades of reliable service.
The northern rail management has not changed since 97' they are robber barons and nepotistic leeches, they need to pay for the criminal mismanagement and underfunding of rail in the north! Those pacers looked like complete rubbish even back in 89'. What an absolute injustice that they were the predominant stock used by the privateers (northern rail) right up until 2019! 30 years of shite and the privateers were proud to keep them running on the network. Like somehow rail users enjoyed the novelty of paying extortionate rail fares, to travel on a rusty tin shack!
