I mean, Sheik WAS bad initially. A lot of her old combos didn't work, a lot of kill confirms didn't work, and Sheik's damage output was toned down. VoiD literally had an April Fools video about Sheik's combos in 2019: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YAd3wGpzQPY.html What made her better was patches. Updates buffed her so that needles combo into bouncing fish, forward aerial has a bigger vertical hitbox so it can hit smaller characters, standing grab's range was increased, and down smash has less startup and connected more reliably into the 2nd hit. All of the buffs gave her back combos and kill confirms. Buff her damage output, and Sheik becomes the best character potentially in the game.

Every combo you see that doesn't involve landing needles were possible in previous versions (Actually, sh needles > up smash was always true, but now the % range is wider). Needles bouncing fish was still true, kill confirms like raindrop and nair > bouncing fish were still true. The only buff that expanded her combo game was the needles buff and maybe down smash buffs.

You sure that her down tilt to up smash would work consistently if they didn't make it easier to land the tipper in 3.0.0? Or how about the buff to grab range? The major buffs for Sheik were the f-air hitbox buff and reduced landing lag on up-air which is indeed what makes the raindrop true. It also gives her much better juggle potential (it combo's into itself with platforms a bunch of times) and allows her to get drag-downs. And I'm pretty sure the needle buff was only a lag reduction on landing while throwing needles, not when staying airborne. It allows for needles into up-smash kills but doesn't extend needles into bouncing fish, was always possible

@@Exl6243 Just as an FYI VoiD made this video around 3.0.0, which is where she had the up air, dtilt, and the fair buffs. This was a joke video about how DIFFERENT she was compared to smash 4, in the same way people claimed "zss sux." Many combos now, such as DD up airs and IDJ shenanigans would've worked at the time of his video. I was unaware that up air had been buffed in 2.0 because that was like 2 months into ult, but that was so close to ultimate's release that my point still stands.
