A little late to the party, but I think one of the major differences that (somewhat) justifies the increased cost of the Field Shelter is the package size. The full Shelter is a large box that is very difficult to move around, and will not fit in a small or medium shuttle. The field shelter comes in a small box that you can easily toss several of into your backpack, making them very easy to carry around and deploy on new planets (and then tether to without worrying about separate oxygenators).
i love this game, got it when it was in alpha and it was aweasom. BUT wht tf did they remove the storms? that made the game more exciting. you had to check so your stuff didnt blow away (you could not anchor platforms).. and also, why can you anchor platforms if there are no storms? i at least wish they would add a stormy planet. aweasom video tho
Yeah I miss storms. Thinking about the sound effect alone is nostalgic. Also, did they have the movable platforms before removing storms? I took a long break from Astroneer long ago, but when I last played while storms were a thing, it was still the weird platforms connected by giant pipes.
time to get started. i would say the main issue was performance the idea of storms is cool, but i think most of us just made a hole and waited 5 minutes for them to get over so not the most engaging part of a game loop
Let me add a third venn circle here: PUM-KN Shelter. Stationary 2 single storage slots Produces hard terrain Produces 1 U/s of power Costs 1 clay, 1 carbon, 1 resin, 1 plastic 0 bytes to unlock
I kinda miss the storms, it added another layer of danger, only problem is they happened waaaaay too, often, maybe once every blue moon on some planets to keep you on your toes.
@@Ironz._. Yeah. You were safe underground and in closed spaces. It also forced you to store your items properly because if you just left them on the ground, they would get blown away, and you would have to look for them.
For myself I feel that when I’m making a base I’d like to use the field shelter, just because it’s stationary. Like if I place the shelter in the wrong spot, I’m fucked
It's good to have when travelling to a new planet. You have a weak power source, but also an oxygenator and save point. Good for your atmospheric condenser outposts.
Glad to hear it! This is just the beginning. I hope to get a better PC and mic as soon as I can and I’m also improving my skills. The W.C.J. channel shall rise!
id like to point out that the shelter does not provide a oxygenator, you must install one if you want a oxygen network. Im not sure if he meant infinite oxygen so long as you are near it but yeah can't make a tether network without putting a oxygenator in it first.
I think the byte cost is there to discourage players from using it as a power farm in the early game. You could technically stack these things and get free power and oxygen way before you even heard about RTGs. But 8.000 bytes kinda prevents that. Its not a good idea to do that with the shelter because way bigger and unmovable.
