Shepherd's pie is a classic comfort food recipe that's healthy, hearty and filling. The bottom layer is a simple a mix of ground lamb and vegetables, simmered into a delicious savory sauce. Then, it's topped with fluffy and creamy mashed potatoes that form a golden crust. It's an easy, cozy meal the whole family will love!

I made this tonight, my first ever Shepherd's pie to make, and even to eat! It was delicious. I put a dollop of sour cream on my plate to sort of dip it in, I like cold and sour things with warm and savory things.

Thank you Lisa for this fab recipe - I’m from England and my mother and both grandmothers make shepherds pie frequently. Your version looks great! We always put Worcestershire sauce in - although in England we actually pronounce it “woos - terr” even though it doesn’t look like it should be said like that !

Plumbers see pay-day when they see cooks pouring meat grease down the sink! I learned my lesson the hard, expensive way. I now wipe out fat with paper towels, or take the whole thing outside and pour it in to the garden, then I wash it out with the garden tap.

Thanks for the warning...I won't be watching this video..who puts grease down the drain🤦put into an empty can & into the freezer..then when it gets full... THROW in the TRASH..so she does it..her mother probably does it🤦on & on.. Grease CLOGS your drains people..common sense🤷 I'm done... & Traumatized..I always read comments 1st...I get a heads up on unexcceptables‼️

All you have to do is run hot water down before, during and after pouring it down the drain and it's perfectly safe to do. Haven't clogged a drain in 40? years doing it this way.

A variation is to use lamb or mutton left over from the Sunday roast. just chop or mince the leftover meat. Everything else is the same as you describe. It is my favourite winter warmer dish :)

This is such a lovely recipe! Lamb's meat is really expensive where I am from, so I tend to rather make cottage pie instead. I do add some grated cheddar cheese and a few slices of tomato ontop of the mashed potatoes before popping it in the oven, which I learned from my dad. This also turns out delicious.

I modified this slightly but it was still delicious. I used potato flakes and 1 lb of lamb and 1 lb of beef and increased the spices a bit because I was using more meat than the original recipe. I also used dry rosemary and thyme rather than fresh. It was still very tasty.
