I loved it how Archie immediately ran up to Sherlock and hugged him tight. That's not something that happens with Sherlock all the time, in fact people's reaction to seeing him is often quite the opposite. He clearly was pleasantly surprised by it, and I'm glad it happened because if there's one person in the show who deserved a nice, warm hug after all - it's our very own junky detective! :)
I LOVED that! Archie was like, "That's the one I like - target acquired!" And when Sherlock asked Archie to deduce during his speech, and said, "There's a headless nun in it for you," I grinned like an idiot.
Of course, both kids and pets are devoid of any malicious intent and are genuine in whatever they do/say, unlike grown-ups. :) Sherlock himself is essentially a good person, so naturally enjoys this company.
I can picture a scenario where she needs feminine products, and John is confused why she asks sherlock to get them instead of him and she'd be like "he's the only one to get the right ones"
It surprises me how many people don't realize that Sherlock has always been an inherently kind and caring person, and not just with kids/pets. Yes he might be rude to people on their face, but he'll be out saving their lives when others would only be saying nice words that they might not even mean. I think the one reason he isn't very happy around adults is the sheer number of facades they put on, and since kids are free from them he's naturally more comfortable and himself around them. Case in point being Sebastian : imagine Sherlock in college trying to talk to kids and getting so much hate. He probably saw his deductions as a way to start conversation, and his brilliance might've made people feel "inadequate" and it's easier to label him a freak. Like Sherlock himself says in The Reichenbach Fall - "a lie that is preferable to the truth. Sherlock Holmes is an ordinary man, no one feels inadequate." The way Sebastian is able to hurt Sherlock even after all these years made me so angry, honestly, how much worse it must've been back then we can only imagine.
AHH YOU GET ITTT And i also hate how people will sneer at his talent but reap the benefits of it when they need it- even the people closest to him seem to expect him to do something clever, to solve it all. Sebastian is the most obvious case, but even Lestrade, if you really think about it, used Sherlock to solve cases but didn't do anything to stop Sally from calling him a freak to his face. (Don't get me started on S4 JOHN) I mean, in the mind palace scene when he got shot, basically all of the people he cares about are essentially goading him to fix the problem (Don't be stupid, you always were so stupid), showing how Sherlock literally beats himself up. If your life was full of people who either used you or hurt you, and your own mind is too smart and works against you constantly- it's no wonder that he doesn't want to get involved with other people. Kids and animals just see him as he is, and don't put up some stupid front to hide their own jealousy or bitterness. He literally went through torture, planned a wedding, shot someone, all for John, because he was the first person to really connect with him and appreciate him LIKE- (sorry for spamming, I'm just bursting to defend sherlock at all times lmao)

(same, I just can't stop defending my precious boy too!) 100% agree with every word you said, I can just write pages on the lengths he has gone to for the tiniest pleasures of his friends, only to get undue hate and "you freak!" in return. He just deserves SO MUCH BETTER. Also, "even the people closest to him seem to expect him to do something clever, to solve it all" - THIS!! So true. John is guilty of this too, and I won't even talk abt S4 because I might never stop. And yes, that mind palace scene was so telling, Sherlock really thinks so low of himself and the way people around him keep repeating that - :( John's appreciation of him must've been so refreshing for him, that's possibly the reason he gets so attached to him so quickly, and which makes John's indifference and "yes, you did" in S4 all the more heartbreaking.

(That scene in Reichenbach where he's kinda panicking that john thinks he's a fake, and john just smiles and says no one could fake being a git all the time and sherlock just looks so HAPPY). but honestly, the signs were all there i think; some people say s4 john was totally out of character, but i can kinda see martin freeman's john watson doing those things? he's clearly shown to have anger issues, trouble with expressing his emotions, trouble dealing with guilt. And when you throw in that cheating-kinda-not thing, john is obviously reeling when mary dies, and who does he see? sherlock, who basically saved him from his miserable depression at the start of asip, who john has continuously believed in. john knows sherlock so well, but i think he still sees him as the mad genius a bit (fully trusts sherlock, confidently asks him to solve the case at his wedding even though he wasn't able to before), and sherlock has honestly done his best to maintain that image because HE HAS SOLVED MOST OF HIS PROBLEMS: Magnussen, the mary problem, the wedding. and john sees this sherlock, with resentment left from the fall, because he probably doesn't know about the whole torture thing, but this time mary isn't coming back, sherlock can't solve it, and john just blames it all on him. And the heartbreaking part is that sherlock thinks he failed because this image of him has finally been broken, as if it's his responsibility to fix everything. the part where he talks about how mary's death put a value on his life, as if his life had no value before someone else thought it was worth something- augh we have to form a protect sherlock club. (so sorry about the horribly long reply, i just have so many feeling about this-)

Also the parallel, JUST NO :( Thinking that way, that look was probably like Sherlock being all "I'm finally getting what I deserve" and it's NOT OKAY AT ALL. That shock on his face when John tells him he didn't kill Mary, it's so heartbreaking how much he believes he did! I don't think he ever stops blaming himself. (in the TFP, when John tells the governor his wife died, Sherlock immediately looks down) Imagine the number of times he would've wished that bullet had killed him instead of Mary (esp clear from the "conferred a value" line) - that thought just breaks my heart. Doing all that he did for two of his closest friends, and then getting blamed by one for the death of the other - can't think of a worse case. Also, yes I see exactly why John blamed him too, but that doesn't make it any less unfair either. Resentment from the fall might mostly be because he didn't know why Sherlock did that in the first place - to save him and others. While none of this was out of character, to me it was pretty shocking to see John's indifference even after Mrs Hudson brings Sherlock over and he sees how he's literally dying. And even after the beating, he just leaves him in the hospital with that stick as a parting gift?! That was insane, what with Mary going all "save John Watson"! Btw, that message was so unecessary tbh - Sherlock doesn't need to be told to save John, been doing that since forever (jumped right into the fire and Mary was there!) and definitely didn't need to be told to "go to hell" for given the situation, he already was. If anyone, like we saw later, John needed the orders. :) It's not my place to judge John, given all his grief - but I still think he could've treated Sherlock better. Even in the hug scene, Sherlock thinking they were just hanging out and John correcting him that they're just "taking turns" supervising him - that was so hard to watch, that whole scene. Sherlock looks so guilty throughout, defending John with "you're doing yourself an injustice" even after knowing he only saved him because Mary said so, the "that's very kind of you John", the value, and the shock ofc. Can't help but mention the difference between how Sherlock sees John and vice-versa - "the most remarkable feature in this case, like ALWAYS, was John Watson."// "Of course it's about Sherlock, everything's about Sherlock." "You, it's always you, John Watson, you keep me right!"//" He'd rather have anyone but you. Anyone." I think it's sad that like others, even John sometimes sees him as a machine meant to solve problems. When it can't, it's to be abandoned/blamed. A friend is expected to see another as just as a human and a friend, and Sherlock definitely deserves better. :( And even after all that, here's this man playing his violin to comfort and "bring home" his psychopath sister whose very life mission has been to destroy him(she has, in some ways), and who others have no idea how to deal with. Well, Sherlock is most definitely the kindest, wisest, and most human human being I have ever known. (this is more an essay than a reply I'm so sorry!)
I was robbed of seeing Sherlock and Rosie teaming up as the ultimate dad/daughter duo when she grew into a child. Imagine little Rosie being like SUPER into the detective stuff. Like shes basically the real life incantation of Nancy Drew. And then theres her other dad Sherlock, being proud af of her. She would also be growing up AROUND Sherlock Holmes on a daily basis. That little girl is bound to become a deductive genius just because of the way Sherlock and John raised her. Love it.
Maybe once Benedict is finally done with the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, and he's around 50 something, they can make more Sherlock seasons where Sherlock and John are in their 50's, and Rosie is an adult solving crimes. The show could focus on her. Or maybe Sherlock would have a kid of his own too, and that kid would team up with Rosie to take on the mantle from Sherlock and John.

And the fact that even after all these years, when he's dying, the one memory that can calm him down is Redbeard. Yes he re-wrote his memories, but oh god the way Sherlock loves his friends! 😭
sherlock is so gentle and soft if you really look at him- like even though he's rude to people, he believes it helps them (isn't it kinder?) or does it out of reflex, and the only people he purposefully hurts are those that feed off of others, like Magnussen and Kitty Reily. Like he either doesn't care about that person at all, or he will literally fake his own death and go through hell just to save them. He doesn't even seem to realize that he's sacrificing so much and it's kinda cute and sad at the same time (no wonder Mycroft didn't want him to get attached to other people, he probably knows from their childhood how emotional and fragile sherlock really is, cough cough victor trevor).

YES! Exactly. I saved this in my "O Joy" Playlist. My headcanon is that he's on the Autistic Spectrum. I love his relationship with kids. When he and Archie turned fast friends I was clapping with joy. He also reminds me a lot of Dr. House from the show "House MD" partially because Dr. House and Dr. Wilson are actually modelled off of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and Dr. House is surprisingly soft with children and has a way with putting manipulating adults to their place.
THIS!!! Having been diagnosed on the ND-Autism-ADHD spectrum myself, I understand why I relate so much with Sherlock. He’s definitely on the spectrum and it gives me so much joy to see our own giving and getting the love we fail to get in daily life.

Yes! Ever notice that kids are FASCINATED by House? I think it's because House acts just like a fellow child, in that he says EXACTLY what he's thinking, which Adults Do Not Do. And -- Sherlock -- is generally the Lord God Emperor of speaking his mind all over the place (SPLAT).
Bit of a side note btw, sorry, but I love that line that Sherlock delivers to Archie, about how grownups expect it and he doesn't understand why but he understands it's something that is expected in society. I feel like growing up neurotypical on some level, whether its autism or social anxiety/anxiety/depression means that you notice what is expected of you around you without fully being aware of why you have to do it. Like, I grew up with social anxiety and depression and I have never understood a lot of rules implemented in society's social functioning. Like why do we grasp hands when we say hello? Why do people say "How do you do?" Or the more modern version, "How are you doing?" And then you go through this whole weird conversation before getting to what you actually want to talk about. Social stuff is weird for people like us. So I think its cool Sherlock sort of brings that idea up. We understand that things in social functioning have rules put in place but we just don't really understand them to it's full degree. At least, I can definitely relate to that ideal.

I “ADORED” every scene Sherlock had w children & pets bc animals could just be loved without worrying about what others might think & kids were invariably treated as “little adults” - in fact, smart little adults who haven’t yet been infected with all the insanity of society. Thus, the scene w Rosie & the rattle. ❤️ But, tbh, my favorite scene on your video is the one w Mycroft showing total and complete incomprehension of children (or really people in general) when Sherlock shows him the pic of Rosie and Mycroft ends up saying “he’s sorry, he’s never been very good w them” “babies?” “Humans.” I always end up on the floor when I see that scene. I LOVE scenes of the brothers together!! Thanks so very much for the video! It also reminded me (bc of the fact that he’s much more relaxed w kids and pets) of that scene during the bachelor party when that woman stops by thinking she dated a ghost and Sherlock tears up, looking like he’s about to cry - just before he appears to fall asleep - but since it’s so rare to see that type of emotion on Sherlock’s face, it was brought to mind. so many ppl don't see this side of sherlock in the show even though it's right there the entire time this is why i always try to write sherlock more like this in fanfic, rather than going down the cold-and-ignorant-genius route. the way i see it, he's arguably the most kind & compassionate character in the show, but because of both his trauma and the isolation that comes with being as smart as he is, it's all hidden under the "sociopath" label he gives himself. plus he's obviously not a sociopath lmao
Sherlock was so wonderful with kids and pets. I’m such a sucker for non-warm characters being sweet, and he is a masterclass in that. The idea of the parents not knowing how to convince their kid to do something and settling on “let Sherlock talk to him” warms my little stone heart
And, somehow, half his bloody friend circle still didn't clue into the fact that Sherlock was hiding behind the "high-functioning sociopath" moniker to get his job done more efficiently. Dude's got plenty of empathy - often more than he knows what to really do with. He just doesn't suffer fools or beat around the bush - a trait, which kids like, and adults hate.
I agree with your first two statements. But personally, I think he's an *ESTP* because Sherlock usually *observes the real world* first (Se) and *then* makes a *linear/organized conclusion* (Ni) based on those observations. He also relies on his *personal reasons/logic* (Ti) over *everyone else's values/feelings* (Fe).
They have the script for season 5 written already. They're just waiting for Ben and Martin's schedules to be more available. Ben and Martin are busy with other projects at the moment. It's just a matter of waiting at this point🙂
Honestly that Redbeard scene is so much sadder now that I’ve seen the last season :( He really loved that friend of his, to the point where out of trauma his brain refused to let him see him as a person, but rather a dog, so it didn’t hurt as much. Poor Sherlock….
I think Sherlock likes kids and pets bcs they're a really good companion better than grown ups(but ofc John is an exception)Bcs grown ups mostly want to lead other then follow or kids just have a more imaginative mind and doesn't care about logic if they saw it and had proof IT'S TRUE BELIEVE IT😂
I would have preferred if they kept Redbeard as a dog rather than making him a human. By revealing that he was a human all along, the writers essentially said "well it doesn't make sense for a kid to get traumatized by the death of a dog, only the death of a human could be traumatic enough."
It also just felt like they were trying to top themselves by writing the most bizarre plot twist that nobody would see coming and it came off as pretty silly.
in any time period. I think readers forget that Sherlock does have it in him to care. Even traditional sherlock told a criminal to sit down and have a glass of (whatever the drink was) to relax him. regardless of the crime he wanted the guy to relax
i love this detail about him, kids are still sponges and imaginative and willing to look past/unlearn the things adults have learned to judge and refrain from and sherlock respects them more than adults because he knows what it feels like to be considered weird or less valuable
