Apparantly you can't remove the carpet if you move the wagon to the window first. At least that happened to me. When I entered the house the table was already removed from the carpet and Sherlock would just say "Hmmm... there's something here" but no hand would appear. Reloading and going back fixed it.
I think it's a bit frustrating you must go run around doing missions for other to retrieve even the tiniest bit of information.. Anyway, I'm excited about that Jack(s) The Ripper
