Part 39 - The Ending. This is it, the final video. I just want to thank everyone for their lovely comments and emails whilst I've been filming the game, I really appreciate them. I'm going to have a break from filming walkthroughs for a couple of weeks, then I'll turn my hand to another game walkthrough. Thanks, AdventureGameFan.

One of the most terrorifying things about how Levy went about depicting it, chilling thats for. haunting to several points

Even though this is a fictionalized deduction, I like to believe this is the true conclusion, seeing how Sherlock Holmes is the only person who could figure it all out.

Hi. I am Jacob Levy’s great great granddaughter. There’s no evidence that my ancestor did what’s depicted here, and historians consider it highly unlikely. If anyone would like to learn more, you can listen to episode 15 of the podcast “Bad Women: The Ripper Retold”.

And notice my wording. "RELOCATED to Whitechapel." As Holmes himself pointed out, what happened was not an increase in numbers, but a repositioning the numbers on hand. They did have the necessary numbers working for Sctoland yard, but not located in Whitechapel at the time. Furthermore, the police coming across unsolvable crimes wasn't uncommon at the time. Consulting detectives like Holmes were used because of the lack of forensic tools and wnet away when we gained more knowledge of forensics.
@KATTALNUVA3
@KATTALNUVA3 13 лет назад
I would love to know what Holmes said. After all how do you talk to a serial killer?
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 13 лет назад
In fact, in the longer run, his murders did help the crime rate in reality. In exactly the way Holmes said it would. With Jack the Ripper still "on the loose" the police were still looking for him. Therefore, the crime rate steadily fell due to lack of opportunities for criminals. In fact, it's this very reason that have led some people to believe Jack the Ripper was a member of the police force or a police conspiracy. That rundown police station wasn't fictional, it really was that bad then.

this was a good game. I started off not liking it much because the puzzles were too self-explanatory for the most part but I ended up really appreciating it for its dialogue and setting. after I finished it i felt strange for the rest of the day. a game that can do that to me has to be a well thought out one! the details were perfect too... except for the identity of Jack, nothing was assumed. very good way to learn and retain the facts of a historical event

@faalajf I think you got it mixed up. In the first part of the playthrough; it is suspected that he killed his victims left handed. Which is why he had a more tighter threshold on his first victim; suffocating her with his left hand and mutilating her afterward.

The riots, a little shakey but not completely unbelievable. Civilian justice of a murderous degree isn't unheard of in cases like these. And, once one person/group starts it, it could just snowball. Studies refer to majorities, not to each unique person. And all of England had a high crime rate due to the immense gap between rich and poor back then, Whitechapel was the worst even before Jack the Ripper showed up. Jack the Ripper's capture wouldn't help that problem.

No one really debates that, nor do they debate that Jack the Ripper was a catalyst that made it happen sooner. The basis of the police theories is that it even if it would have happened, it wasn't going to happen soon enough. Or, the more optimistic theory is that it was happening, but not fast enough. Either way, the facts, and a few biased spins, are recorded. History is one of those subjects that pops up in every field. Even you study it, just to a lesser degree than myself and others.

I'm aware that this is a fictional computer game but having looked more into Jacob Levy he is one of the more likely suspects. Obviously Frogwares took some liberties to tie up the loose ends (there's nothing to suggest that Levy had fair hair). Look up Jacob Levy at the Jack The Ripper Casebook website.

@xihakuix
@xihakuix 14 лет назад
oh yeah, my bad, i was thinking about some casebook study i was reading. apparently there was some idiot doctor who said he was left handed, solely based on the word "left" meaning evil/sinister/etc. but the proof he's right handed was because the slash marks on the victim's necks went from left to right.
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 13 лет назад
It could and they did a bit, but that's not what happened in the long run. As the game demonstrates with leather Apron and Squibby, there were some civilian attempts at justice, but when the JTR incident cooled down, these went away. And during, fear grew, neighborhood watches were put into effect, prostitutes without a brothel went into hiding, and police officers were relocated to Whitechapel. Open a history book, Jack the Ripper set off a chain reaction that ultimately cleaned up Whitechapel.

The Jacob Levy theory is the first such theory that didn't sound like some wild conspiracy theory. And yes, there were plenty of suspects that had a reason to stop killing at the time Jack did, but come on, Jacob fit the descriptions given by the witnesses to a T, and he lived right at ground zero. I don't know how people can entertain theories that might be compelling in some respects but have one glaring oversight like the suspect being super tall or something.

Okay when Holmes goes into talk to Jack and his lips move and there is no dialogue, is that how it is supposed to be?
@faalajf
@faalajf 13 лет назад
@HaloSpartan300 but IRL Jack didn't strangle his victims, he only had his hand there to keep them still. and at first, they thought he cut their throats by standing in front of them, with cutmarks going right to left and a bruceing of a what looked like a left hand, but they later discovered that de cut them from behind w his left hand, holding their necks with the right hand, leaving a mark that in front looked like a left hand strangulation from the front
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 14 лет назад
Dude, it's a mystery game. Any idiot can tell you that a mystery game is going to have a shit load of dialogue; witness testimonies are just as important as the physical evidence. They the job of making the grand deduction air tight as well as lead the player down the wrong track (though usually not in that order).

Officers are relocated all the time in big numbers. Does the crime rate suddenly shoot up every time that happens? No. Generally a relocation only happens when a station has excess. Now, in times of crisis, this rule isn't always followed, but even then there's always a hand full of excellent officers or a bunch of qualified officers left behind. Still not really a good opportunity to commit a big crime or try more often. It remains a well protected area.

@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 13 лет назад
Then why did they do nothing until Jack the Ripper showed up? If you go over, there had been numerous requests for more officers prior to Jack the Ripper and nothing happened. Further, moving officers doesn't necessarily move the problem. While there are now more opportunities elsewhere, that alone doesn't make more criminals. Further, as more criminals are arrested, less officers are required in an area and are sent elsewhere. This time, as well as looking in that history book, look around.

Have to say, this story makes a lot of sense, especially more than From Hell. I'd like to know how much (if everything) of the facts Holmes uses to deduce Jack's identity is true (i.e. the reports detailing his age and height, etc.), and if they are, why didn't the police find him?

And it's not really a prediction when it's been inductively proven several times with sound deductive backing. It's logic at that point. And I haven't been saying this outright for the game's sake as well as your own, but: where in this game did catching Jack the Ripper seem like a good idea and Holmes seem wrong? When people were chasing Leather Apron, or Squibby?
